Location: Lobby, United Nations Building

Date: March, 9 – 23, 2016

John Paul II, Karol Wojtyla, devoted a particular attention to the promotion of ecumenism

and interreligious dialogue, and these have represented a significant component of the

program of his Pontificate. During his apostolic journeys, he constantly devoted space for

meetings with representatives of other Churches and Religions.

The exhibition aims to tell and suggest constructive confrontation so bravely commenced by

Karol Wojtyla, with unprecedented symbolic gestures; the first Pope to enter a synagogue,

to unite the spiritual leaders of the major faiths of the world in prayer and to meet Muslims

inside a mosque, he prayed at the Western Wall in Jerusalem, commonly known as the

Wailing Wall. This exhibition aims to retrace the highlights of these meetings, in particular

with the so-called Abrahamic Monotheistic Religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

The exhibition is divided into five sections:

• Encounters with the Jewish World

• Encounters with other Christian denominations

• Encounters with the Muslim World

• Jubilee Pilgrimage to the Holy Land

• Interreligious Encounters in Assisi.
