How did you decide you wanted your career?

I had a big interest in doing mechanical repairs on vehicles.

What kind of things do you do on a daily basis?

Do triage on trucks as they roll in. Repairs. Overhaul. Its endless what we do with the trucks

What kind of post secondary schooling do you need for this career?

You need a college education, as well as 9000 hours on the job.

Stick to the electrical and dianostics

We all work as a team. Its 100% teamwork.

Are you satisfied with your career? Why or why not?

Yes I am. I like the fast pace work ethic.

If you could change careers would you?

No I would not change careers. I would modify this one. I would o into a different specialty.

Is your job safe? Why or why not?

It is very safe. Many precautions are set up and we are all trained properly. Also not many people are specializing in his line of work so their are not many people to get hurt.

Does your career tie in with your interests?

Oh definitely. Its been my interest to work on and repair vehicles since before high school.

Are you able to travel with your career?

Yes I can. I can work just about anywhere in north America.

What training/certificates do you need to work in this field after college?

You need all your training, you need a red seal, you need you certificate of qualification after your 9000 hours and you are still constantly training while on the job for the rest of your life.

Describe your work enviroment

Sometimes extremely dangerous if not careful, Fast paced, Hard on your body and hard in general because of all these variables.

How long have you been working this type of career?

Since 1978. So 36 years.

What are your holidays like?

I get a month of vacation time and regular holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving.

Is there something in your career that would like to modify/change?

If I could go back I would probably specialize in something. Right now I don't specialize in anything. The people who do specialize get all the good, clean jobs.

What kind of technology do you use for your career?

We use a lot of different scanning equipment for looking inside the vehicles so we don’t have to go digging around in the trucks. We use a lot of technology to make the job quicker and safer.

When did you decide you wanted this career?

Right as I got out of high school, I looked at what I needed to do so I could become a mechanic.
