G lass-Technology In ternat ional : We know that you

have chosen an RCN kiln – why? What does an RCN kiln have that others don’t?Mauro Galli: Good que-stion! We needed a kiln for the lamination of curved glass. We saw that RCN has a kiln that uses a spe-cial vacuum bag that uses pressure, which is ideal for this type of processing.Another reason is the cost-quality ratio, and the gua-

rantee of the quality of the glass coming from the kiln. And we are really pleased with this kiln.

GT-I: And you use this kiln for curved glass? Where are these types of glass used?

Mauro Galli: They are used mainly for the refri-geration industry – confec-tionary, cold cuts and ice cream shops for example, where you can find these long curved glass (almost)

‘showcases! The length of the glass can reach up to 2 metres 15 centimetres in a single curved sheet, with heights of 60-80 centime-tres. They can also be made to be opened. If we speak about flat glass, we work with 6 x 3.21 metres.

Gina Galli: Our choice was for the best product – and this is why we chose RCN. GT-I: So how did you find

out about and decide on RCN?

Mauro Galli: It was really by chance; Stefano Ricchi came here to see us and left us some information. After just a few days, one of our important clients started to ask us for curved lami-nated glass. And they wan-ted laminated because if you have a normal curved glass enclosure, if it breaks it falls all over the products that are inside.

Gina Galli: Another im-portant reason is connected to safety – when laminated glass breaks it does not break up but stays in pla-ce. And this is important in food shops where children are often present.

The best machines for glass processors are those made here in Italy,”

says Marzilio Galli, San Rocco Vetro.

Mauro Galli: and with this kiln we have entered a new market sector so we are doubly satisfied!

Gina Galli: The most positive aspect is that we really have to underline the validity of this RCN product. We had excel-lent results and therefo-re satisfaction right from the first production. And satisfaction because we are getting really positive feedback about the glass that we are delivering to our clients.Of course, we also use it for flat glass! But the highlight of the kiln is when we use it for curved sheets …Roberta Commetti – RCN: And to confirm this, one of our clients in Liverpool, UK; has the same kiln and he actually said the same thing: if the curve of the glass is good then the lamination is also perfect and of the highest quality. And not just the first times or after trial pieces – each and every time.

Mauro Galli:We still have here in the workshop the first curved glass that we did with the kiln – two me-tres of glass with one milli-metre of plastic – and the result was perfect!

Gina Galli: We are not saying this because we want to ‘advertise’ for RCN, it’s the truth and the kiln is really worth the pri-ce that you pay.

GT-I: How long have you been using the kiln?

Mauro Galli: Since De-cember 2014 and since then the request for this type of glass are continuing to increase.

Gina Galli: And now the international market is starting to contact us for this glass too.

GT-I: Do you work a lot for the international market? And which countries are we speaking about.

Mauro and Gina Galli: It is 30 per cent of our turnover. We work a lot with Turkey, Poland, Germany, Finland, the UK, Portugal …We not only process curved glass, but also flat and tem-pered glass too, which is used mainly in the furnitu-re and appliance industries, where tempered glass is es-sential for safety reasons.

GT-I: What are your plans for the near future? You have started and are now up and running with curved laminated glass so where do you go from here?

Mauro Galli: Just yester-day, we spoke to a client who wants us to do lami-nated glass for interior design – for architects. So we are going to start trials and we’ll see what kind of results we get!

Gina Galli: We are spea-king about market such as

Dubai, where the product must be rally specific and even ‘special’ …

SAN ROCCO VETRO COMPANY HISTORYGT-I: How long has the company been active?

Gina Galli: The company was actually founded in 1970 by my father with a partner. In March 2013, Galli Senior took over the entire company, and, as he said, “the company’s main market was for Tiffany, leaded and copper edged glass.”“I was actually thinking about doing some lamina-tion on these types of glass ...” It is, in fact, a very dif-ficult job and must be done entirely manual. The company started out with three workers and now employs 43 people.

GT-I: Tell us about the ma-chines, furnaces and kilns you have here at San Rocco Vetro.

Mauro Galli: We have four furnaces: a laminating fur-nace for flat glass, and two tempering furnaces for cur-ved glass. Our flat tempe-ring furnace is from Kera-glass, while the curved glass tempering furnaces are from BH&T and Effe&Ci.All these furnaces have their own features for the speci-fic glass types that they pro-cess and so there is no real ‘winner’. As far as cutting is con-

cerned, the table is from Bottero, an Intermac work centre, Schiatti bilateral machines, Triulzi washing machines – all machinery ‘Made in Italy’.

Gina and Mauro Gal-li: We must really thank RCN, not only for the excellence of their pro-duct, but also for their continuous and really fast availability and assistance right from the start. Ano-ther important feature of RCN is the fact that we also have direct contact with the owner of the company – Stefano Ricchi – not always possible with other companies.

Roberta Cometti, RCN: We at RCN are proud to say that we do not make any differences with re-gards to clients – those who buy big machines and those who buy a small kiln. For us they are all the same. This means that our availability is the same for all our clients. Our availability is also the-re to help our clients reach zero waste and dispersion – which is the slogan of our most recent ad cam-paign!

Mauro Galli: And thanks to this ‘assistance’ we were able to create a wall of mir-rored glass for one of Pra-da’s stores using 3 metres 60 of 6mm extra clear mir-ror, 0,76mm REVA film, 0,76mm black film, 8mm extra clear. Perfect results!
