SPARKLE Volume 463 / 15 October 2009 Intertek Acquires TSCP Certification Body Accreditation Intertek, a world-renowned independent testing and inspection services provider, is pleased to announce that the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), coordinator of the U.S. standards and conformity assessment system, has accredited Intertek as a Certification Body under the new Toy Industry Association (TIA) Toy Safety Certification Program (TSCP), which recognizes Intertek’s fulfillment of the ISO/IEC Guide 65 and TSCP’s program requirements for competence of product certification bodies. The Challenge: Upon successful completion of applicable requirements under the TSCP, the product or packaging may bear a toy safety mark. This TSCP mark signifies that the toy was manufactured in accordance with the TSCP program and the whole process was monitored by accredited certification bodies like Intertek. Development of the TSCP began in August 2007. Toy Industry Association, as a member of the ANSI, engaged ANSI to coordinate a public-private partnership to develop technical and international policy guidance regarding conformity assessment solutions for toy safety. The program builds on the requirements of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) and further strengthens the toys safety enforcement in US. In other words, the TSCP was created to improve toy safety, enhance stakeholder confidence in toy products, and comply with new federal legislation mandating that toys be tested by a qualified lab and certified that they meet rigorous national safety standards and regulations, as well as retailer requirements. Intertek Acquires TSCP Certification Body Accreditation
Intertek, a world-renowned independent testing and inspection services provider, is pleased to announce that the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), coordinator of the U.S. standards and conformity assessment system, has accredited Intertek as a Certification Body under the new Toy Industry Association (TIA) Toy Safety Certification Program (TSCP), which recognizes Intertek’s fulfillment of the ISO/IEC Guide 65 and TSCP’s program requirements for competence of product certification bodies.
