Interspeech 2018 will be held during September 2-6, 2018 in Hyderabad, the capital city of the newly formed state of Telangana in India. The venue of Interspeech 2018 is the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC), a state-of-the-art facility with the capacity to host conferences with over 5000 delegates. The attached Novotel hotel is a modern four-star hotel with 287 guest-rooms. The surrounding HiTech city area has numerous options for transport, accommodation, food, shopping and entertainment, all within a radius of seven kilometres from the HICC. Hyderabad is over four hundred years old and has numerous attractions for visitors. There is something for everyone — historical monuments, museums, palaces, handicraft emporiums, antiques stores, jewellery shops, leather shops, restaurants serving several gastronomic delights, and yoga ashrams. The HICC is about a 40-minute drive from the Rajiv Gandhi international airport, which is rated among the best in the world for airport service quality. The airport provides direct international flight connections to prominent cities across the world as well as domestic flight connections to enable travellers to reach any major city in India within about two hours. With the strength of over 1.25 billion people, and a geographical area of over 3 million square kilometres, India exhibits a rich diversity in language, script, history, culture, clothing, terrain, climate, cuisine, customs, hospitality, etc.. This makes communication among people, especially in spoken form, unique and immensely challenging for scientific research and exploration. India is also a huge market for various technologies, be it in communication or in healthcare. With over 800 million mobile phone users, the information technology (IT)-enabled services are faced with the challenge of dealing with day-to-day conversations in multiple languages with code-switching. The large speech research community in India is already addressing some of these issues with generous support from the federal and state government funding agencies, and the industry. The theme of Interspeech 2018 is “Speech Research for Emerging Markets in Multilingual Societies,” which is not only topical, but also apt for multilingual societies elsewhere in the world. Interspeech 2018 will give you a rare opportunity to experience first-hand the challenges of providing IT-enabled services to a large population in a multilingual setup. India means different things to different people. Come, participate in Interspeech 2018, and discover for yourself what India means to you. “To travel is to discover that everyone is wrong about other countries.” - Aldous Huxley September 2-6, 2018 Hyderabad International Convention Centre Hyderabad, Telangana, India http://www.interspeech2018.org INTERSPEECH 2018 Theme: Speech Research for Emerging Markets in Multilingual Societies General Chair B.
