Dear Readers:

In our last issue, we had a report on the interesting Indian market and our local activities. The article on page 7 demon-strates that our Indian colleagues are not only logistics-enthusiasts.

As is known throughout, our commitment is not limited to the so-called growth mar-kets; we are often active in those regions that are subject to economic and political insecurities, or that require fi nding totally new transport routes. Challenges that our highly committed staff s like taking on and mastering.

Our well-developed network of company-owned locations and the branch offi ces of sister companies ranges from Russia and the CIS/Central Asian countries to China. Yet thanks to our association with the TransInvest Group, we are also well positioned in Iran. Owing to its geo-stra-tegic situation, the country plays an emi-nent role in China’s so-called One Road – One Belt initiative and is regarded as a key connection on the New Silk Road to Europe. More on our current products via the North-South corridor Russia-Iran on page 3.

In future, too, we will keep consolidating our strong position in these regions and stand by your side with innovative, new transport solutions.

Have fun reading!

NEWS FROM THE INTERRAIL GROUP

InterRail extends Iran product range

Among others, InterRail Russia also offers an interesting solution for container transports from and to Iran using InterRail-owned con-tainer wagons. Container trans-ports between Russia and Iran are routed via Astara, Azerbaijan. The container railcars are parked on the private railway siding of the Azersped terminal (a sister com-pany of InterRail) in Astara while the containers are then hauled by truck to the consignee (or, for goods going out, to the shipper) in Iran.

In a test run, empty tank contain-ers were loaded onto container railcars in Nizhnekamsk, Rus-sia, and transported to Astara, Azerbaijan. From there, Azersped trucked the empty tank containers to Tabriz, Iran, where they were

InterRail is further expanding its portfolio of services to and from Iran: In close cooperation with sister companies from the TransInvest Group, the Moscow-based Russian InterRail unit OOO InterRail Service provides wagon and container transports along the North South cor-ridor Russia-Iran.

filled with liquid petrochemicals and taken back to Astara on same trucks. On board the container rail-cars parked there, the tank con-tainers were then shipped back by rail from Astara to the consignee in Nizhnekamsk.

Shipments of chemicals from Ural-sk, Kazakhstan, to Mashad, Iran, can serve as another example. The 2,000-kilometer transport was routed via the new border cross-ing point Ak-Yayla, Turkmenistan / Inche Borum, Iran, where the covered railcars-axles were ex-changed: Once the CIS broad gauge axles are replaced with Iranian, normal gauge ones, the wagons can reach their final des-tination without the cargo being transshipped. After the wagons had arrived at Mashad, InterRail

returned the empty railcars back to Kazakhstan.

In offering such products, Inter-Rail benefits from the extensive network of the TransInvest Group, which has a strong presence in Russia, the CIS/Central Asia and Iran. Moreover, owing to its own wagon fleet as well as additional, long-term leasing contracts for open top and covered freight cars, for container carriers and special wagons, InterRail can meet its customers’ requirements fast and in a flexible way. Depending on seasonal fluctuations and the mar-ket situation, InterRail controls and markets about 1,000 company-owned and leased freight cars of all different types.

NEWS FROM THE RAILWAY MARKET

Increasing of China-Kazakhstan-Eu-rope rail freight volumes During a meeting of the Border rail-roads commission of Kazakhstan and China which was held from 22 to 26 of August, the parties dis-cussed issues of further develop-ment of mutually cooperation.

In recent years, both sides car-ried out extensive work to develop the international transport and in-crease the capacity of the Dostyk and Alashankou stations, imple-ment traffic volumes at the Altynkol – Khorgos piece of line.In the first seven months of 2016, the volume of China-Kazakhstan-Eu-rope rail freight transport via these border crossings reached 4.4 million tons and is expected to record 9 mil-lion tons by the end, a 23% increase compared with the same period of 2015.

Faster trans-ship-ment at KhorgosKazakh Railways has shortened the trans-shipment time of container trains from Chinese standard gauge to Russian broad gauge from 3 hours 55 minutes to 3 hours 10 min-utes, by utilizing three 50-ton gantry cranes and two reach stackers.

Kazakh Railways reports that the Khorgos-Eastern Gate dry port is perfectly equipped in terms of in-frastructure to handle big volumes, including fast customs clearance. More and more, Altynkol-Khorgos is used as border crossing for contain-er traffics, while Dostyk-Alashankou is used for wagons with bulk goods and over-size shipments.

According to Kazakhstan Railways there is positive dynamic of con-tainer traffic’s growth. 554 container trains serviced China – Europe – China via Kazakhstan route in the seven months of this year, growing nearly 2.5 times (compared to the same period in 2015).

China and Kazakhstan plan to in-crease cargo flows by improving the quality of services and by organizing new transport services on China – Kazakhstan – Central Asia. The two countries aim to increase the vol-ume of China-Kazakhstan-Europe rail freight transport to 11.5 million tons in 2017.

Railway MoU signed by Iran and Ukraine According to Ukraine’s embassy in Tehran, Iran and Ukraine have re-cently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to boost co-operation in the field of railway in-dustry. It is aimed at initiating close cooperation in the railway sector

and implementing large-scale rail projects in Iran. Under the MoU, the two sides are going to exchange ex-perience in developing railroad in-frastructure as well as communica-tion and alarm systems. Moreover, Tehran and Kiev will work together

on high-speed train technology and new technologies in manufacturing rails.

INQUIRING

Viktoria Mylnikova (28)Since February 2016 with InterRail Service LLC

I consider a working day suc-cessful...…at the end of the day I can say that today we completed some tasks, that we are working not just to ful-fi l the task at hand, but for reaching goals; or when I get positive feed-back: it can be everything from gro-wing traffi c fi gures on our web-site or feedback from our customers af-ter an exhibition.

What impresses me most about my job is ... … is fi rstly the creative process in all things I do, and then the oppor-tunity to communicate with diff erent people both within the company and beyond.

If I were not working in the trans-port and logistics business, I

would like to …… commit myself somehow to social activities like organizing city events / Olympic Games / Formula 1 and so on.

If I could go on a trip around the world, these would be my desti-nations…I would like to visit a lot of coun-tries with diff erent geographies and human mentalities like Bolivia, Ire-land, Singapore and Mexico.

I have always wanted to ….… work in a fi eld that combines business and creative thinking; to be an important part in a huge pro-cess where every day brings new challenges.

Head of Marketing Depart-ment

We asked Viktoria Mylnikova some personal questions:

Team spirit on the soccer fi eldSince spring 2016, twelve young InterRail colleagues have been meet-ing every Wednesday for a game of soccer. Whether offi ce clerk or man-ager, on the soccer fi eld they are all equal, and exercise accuracy as well as good team play. The latter can then be applied to cooperation in every day work. But there has been enough exercise already: the team is now ready for a match against other company teams. Interested?

InterRail Moscow spent the fi rst Sunday of August with an outdoors excursion. Traditionally ‘Railroad Day’ is celebrated on that day in Russia.

InterRail swaps computers for cricket bats……even though only for the duration of a tournament hosted by CEAT Tyres, one of India’s leading tyre manufacturers and an InterRail customer. Since 1995, the com-pany has awarded the so-called Cricket Prize every year. With the help of the CEAT-created Cricket Rating System, international, ex-traordinary cricket talents are found and their performances honored, so that in the end the question of every cricket fan can be answered: “Who is the best of the best?” (http://www.ceatcricketrating.com/)

In this company tournament with eight participating teams, InterRail was not really make it into the “Top of the Top” cricket classification, but the colleagues put up a brave fight against tournament win-ner MAERSK. The InterRail team played under the leadership of Vi-jay Narayan, Managing Director of InterRail India Pvt. Ltd.; colleague Sachin Shimpi was substantial in the organization of the tourna-ment.

All in all, eight company teams took part: MAERSK, CMA CGM, MSC,

EVERGREEN, OM FREIGHT (a domestic road transport compa-ny), LCL LOGISTIX, INTERRAIL (with the support of MOL, CSS Dubai and Safewater Lines), and CEAT.

By the way: A match of cricket takes such a long time that it might well be the only sport where there are official lunch and afternoon tea breaks scheduled.
