Honor - Internship Coordinator [email protected] INTERNSHIP NOTICE #17 Important Note: If you are selected for the internship, please inform Mr. Honor IMMEDIATELY via email at: [email protected] I am reaching out about opportunities for your students to participate in Futures and Options programs this spring and summer, including: Career Essentials, an after-school work-readiness and career exploration program for high school students (February – May) The Urban Leadership Fellows Program, a summer internship program for graduating seniors who are interested in finance, law or business and who have a GPA of 3.0 or higher (late June – mid-August) The Internship Program, a paid mentored internship program, with work-readiness training and career exploration activities (Spring and Summer) Please see below for more detailed information about these programs. 1) Career Essentials – Spring (9 th -12 th Graders): Students in Career Essentials participate in 12 two-hour workshops facilitated by our experienced program coordinators that focus on work readiness skills. Workshops are held at Futures and Options, which is located in the financial district, once a week after school. Participants learn communication, presentation and interviewing skills, workplace etiquette, time management and resume writing. Two career exploration field trips offer students exposure to different career options and companies. Students also have the opportunity to network and learn with their peers from different boroughs and high schools. We will offer the program on Wednesdays and Thursdays this spring, and have 50 open spots. Even though the program is open to all students, we mostly target 9th and 10th graders, and students we feel are not yet ready for the world of work. The spring program will begin March 9 th . The due date for the application is Friday, February 12 th , 2016. Key components of the program include: · A paid, full-time summer internship at a financial institution, law firm or government agency · Pre-internship orientations and Excel trainings · A professional mentor (in addition to an internship supervisor) · A full day public speaking training by a leading communications trainer · A trip to Washington DC to learn about the intersection of finance and government policy · A $500 book award (to use towards textbook costs next year) at the conclusion of the summer · The opportunity for college scholarships. All alumni who maintain the GPA requirement receive a $1,000 (annual) scholarship

I am reaching out about opportunities for your students to participate in Futures and Options programs this spring and summer, including:

· Networking opportunities with the 40 other students in the ULF cohort and with 22 years’ worth of ULF alumni.

High school seniors can apply to this program on the Futures and Options website: www.futuresandoptions.org. The application deadline is Friday, February 12, 2016. The ULF Program is open to high school SENIORS only. The criteria for selection include:

· An interest in a career in finance, business or law · Availability to work full-time for the duration of the six-week, paid internship · A 3.0 GPA or higher · Excellent computer skills · Strong verbal and written English skills

3) The Internship Program – Year-Round (11th - 12th Graders): Students in the Internship Program participate in paid mentored internships at New York City businesses, nonprofits, and government agencies. The interns work 12-15 hours per week after school or up to 40 hours a week during the summer. Additionally, interns receive ongoing support from Futures and Options program staff and attend regularly scheduled work-readiness workshops and career exploration field trips. The program is open to students ranging from rising high school juniors to rising college freshman. The Internship Program operates on a rolling basis, and students can apply now to be considered for both spring and summer opportunities. The final deadline to be considered for the summer is April 15th.

In 1992, The Municipal Forum of New York developed the Urban Leadership Fellows (ULF) Program with the mission to introduce talented young men and women to the municipal securities industry and inspire them to pursue careers in the field.

The ULF Program is a PAID summer internship program for graduating seniors from NYC high schools interested in careers in the finance industry.

Internship – Participants work 40 hours per week in prestigious internships in the municipal finance field.

Support – F+O supports interns throughout the summer with one-on-one guidance, and events such as pre-internship orientations, municipal bond training, public speaking and presentation workshops, and work-readiness training.

Stipend – Interns are paid a weekly stipend of $400 or $10 an hour.

Awards – The Municipal Forum awards each student a $500 book grant at the closing luncheon. Alumni who meet GPA requirements receive a $1,000 or $1,250 annual scholarship.

Internship Partners – A variety of firms host ULF interns, including law firms, financial advisory firms, investment banks, rating agencies and municipal entities. See the back of this flier for a list of our 2015 partners.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Over 599 students have completed internships through the ULF Program.

The Municipal Forum has awarded more than $660,000 in scholarships to program participants.
