What kind of promotional materials and methods are used? Which methods and promotional materials are well received by the communities and effective? Option Two: Do a comparative study of behavioral change as it relates to WASH behaviors between the open-‐defecation-‐free community of Bobicho in Hosanna and the community of Alantu in Dodola, which is working to become open-‐defecation-‐free. What are the factors that promote positive behavioral change? Is there any difference between Muslim and Christian homes? Does active church involvement make a difference? How about social status? How do people’s theological views change as they learn about disease transmission? Do educational levels make a difference? What factors promote or hinder the sustainability of the change? What factors lead to regression? Based on these findings, what specific ways might WASH promotion be encouraged in other areas? What aspects of WASH promotion training from Lifewater have been successfully contextualized and carried on/multiplied, and what components were not useful/transferred? To develop the project, Riley will work closely with Zerihun and his university contacts.
