Developing country’s access percentage is lesser

population

• Requires a high speed connectivity for all parts including rural and remote areas.

• For this, huge investment required. Internet Service Providers cannot afford this alone.

• In such cases Government creates a vast infrastructure and collect a nominal usage charge from ISPs and other users.

National Optical Fiber Network

• Cost of access plays a major role especially in

cost sensitive country like India.

• In telecom market, consumer base and relatively

less cost infrastructure and average utilization of

network will have an impact on cost factor.

• In a competitive market scenario, advancement

in technologies will bring down the cost and make

internet access affordable.

• Apart from infra and cost, lack of content

felt by people also a reason for not using

internet

• Most of the content isn’t in their primary

language.

• People are not aware of utilities availed

through internet

• To access some commercial content, we

have to pay money. All are not free in

internet.

Several websites are providing free access.

For operating their company, they get money by

utilizing customer information for commercial

purposes. Ex: Facebook, Google, Twitter and

etc.

Few not for profit organizations also present.

They collect donations from generous to

provide content to all equally. Ex: Wikipedia

Other sites are directly collect nominal free

from user for accessing its content and

facilities. Ex: Digital Libraries

Poor people can afford only free content. That should be relevant for them. Then only they will use internet.

Language is one of the barrier in restricting the use of internet by common people

To reach 80% population, 92 language contents are required.

Under this Internet.org project several

websites can be accessed without paying any

charges for internet. It includes Wikipedia,

Facebook and few more education related

sites.

internet access to all people in any part of the

world.
