Are you working in the Swiss Funds- and Asset Management
Industry? Do you hear statements like these from your
colleagues and clients…
“I’m not concerned by PRIIPs because we are a Swiss bank and
even less with MiFID II because we don’t have any EU-clients.”
(Head of Compliance, Bern); “I only distribute my funds using
reverse solicitation.” (Head of Business Development, Pfäffikon
SZ); “We don’t have any presence in Europe so European
regulation doesn’t really concern me.” (Board Member, Zurich); “All
these bureaucrats in Brussel do is damage the industry by creating
ever more disturbances for the business” (CIO, St. Gallen)
… and you are reading this in the news?

Course overview
Are you working in the Funds- and Asset Management industry and concerned with questions like:
What are current best practices in the industry?
How can I secure market access for my products and services?
What are the current strategic opportunities in Europe and what factors are influencing them?
What about Management of regulation and financial regulatory risks: What are the most pressing regulatory risks and how are they
impacting my firm inside and outside of the European Union?
If you want to exchange ideas with your peers and discuss current challenges in the industry, develop innovative approaches and discuss
them with international experts, the Level 4 International Fund and Asset Management Officer is the right choice for you.
Who can attend
Senior fund- and asset management industry professionals (completed Level 3 or equivalent trainings and several years of industry
experience) from the following areas: Legal & Compliance, Risk Management, Product Management, Business Development, Fund
Administration, Asset Management, Audit, Regulators (attendance will be limited to 10-12 participants). The working groups (2-3
participants per group) will consist of industry professionals with similar backgrounds, functions or interests which will facilitate the
exchange of knowledge, experience and opinions.
The groups can expect to get in close touch with leading experts, policy makers, decision makers and influencers within their fields which
represents a unique opportunity to obtain feedback on the work prepared by the group. This course provides professional training at an
advanced level, offering a practical and meaningful supplement to internal training and educational programs.
Course culture
The majority of the course is devoted to the direct exchange of knowledge and experience: For this purpose, the class has access to more
than a dozen experts, all of them leading representatives from the fund industry, academia, authorities and associations. The
dissemination, processing and expansion of knowledge takes place primarily in the learning groups and in the plenary sessions devoted to
specialist debates. Course participants should prepare as thoroughly as possible for these expert debates, organizing the various
questions and theories, raising other pertinent issues, questioning the issues at hand, drawing conclusions, formulating other theories,
presenting premises, defining and supporting their own negotiating positions, setting priorities and outlining a joint discussion structure
(e.g. allocating roles).

The course is structured in 3 sequences: 1) Preparation, 2) Field Work and 3) Finalising / Business Transfer
Sequence 1: Participants can choose between given subject blocks and are organised in small groups. The groups will be
responsible for their topic and its presentation in Brussels and will prepare accordingly in coordination with the course
management. Once the detailed topic has been agreed with the course management (coordination), the groups will prepare the
following documents:
a) An intro presentation (for example Power Point) of 3-4 pages outlining the topic; the presentation should contain 3-5
of the team's personal reflections or analysis, being based on established quotes, specific questions, a dilemma or a
paradox you have found during the research, followed by your personal message and interpretation. It should further
contain at least 3 to 5 links (including interpretations) to professional literature (please ensure quotes are correct)
and/or press articles (accurately stating the relevant sources);
b) a questionnaire for the panel discussion with the experts (to structure the expert discussion after the intro
presentation); and
c) a list of literature (including specialist press articles and other reading materials).
In sequence 2 participants are moderating the different topics and will thus lead the presentations with the following structure:
a) intro by experts, b) group presentation, c) panel discussion and d) Q&A sessions with final remarks by experts. To each topic
the experts in Brussels will have both a introductory- and closing statements. Apart from the learning sequences, there will be
opportunities to network, for example during a gala dinner at the end of the first day that will be attended by all of the experts as
well as further special guests.
In sequence 3 the different groups are asked to prepare a final report (two pages) where a) the key learnings and b) the
possible transfer of the learning sequences into their daily business are summarised. The final report should be submitted to
the course management 4 weeks after completion of the two days in Brussels and will be disseminated to all the participants. In
order to pass the course full attendance of all sequences will be required.
