YAMENer Juanjuan Jiang (China) and SALT participant Renate Toews are learning to cook the Khmer way.

It seems we are always encouraged by society and our supervisors to have goals. It might be a goal for the day or week, for the school year or even a life goal. Short-term goals are quite easy for me – I’m the type of person who will write a list of things to get done on a Saturday. But long-term goals are more challenging and can, at times, be ambiguous. What does it actually mean to “increase a sense of personal involvement and responsibility in a world of interrelated peoples,” one of the IVEP goals? Put another way, it is hard to know you have achieved your goal when seeking to “provide opportunities for learning and mutual transformation through the development of intercultural skills.” While goals are important and necessary, I hope they don’t cause us to overlook the serendipitous moments in life.

In looking back at my journal during SALT, it seems I was most thankful for homemade chocolate chip cookies from my Reps, which rounded out my meals of jasmine rice in the morning, jasmine rice at noon and jasmine rice at night. But, as I brushed the cookie crumbs off my face, I also journaled about learning language, hanging out with friends after work, connecting with my hosts, exploring new areas, learning history and appreciating a new climate. The delight of exploring Phnom Voar, an enchanting cave hole sunk in the mountains, was tangible. The joy in being able to show my parents around and the pride in knowing I could order food, get a taxi and ask for directions, all in Khmer, was exhilarating. Seeing the fresh water Mekong dolphin and learning that black pepper grows on vines were surprising discoveries for me. Being present during church youth gatherings, where I only understood 10 percent of the words but 100 percent of the body language, knowing I was welcomed was humbling. The tears I shed at the airport upon my departure and tight hugs with host sisters were reminders that this country, culture and people had stolen my heart and shaped my growing up. These were not specific goals that I articulated at orientation, but they were very real learnings, serendipitous moments that I’ll remember for a lifetime.

Look back at your goals for the year with grace and a smile, but more than that, remember those serendipitous moments of learning, connection, exploration and sheer joy in experiencing something new on this earth.

First impression or Differences: At first, I was assigned to Mozambique, but I did not get a visa. I was transferred to Zimbabwe, so I have different impressions of those two countries. Though they are neighboring countries in Africa, the lifestyle, language, food, and people are drastically different and of course, both countries are different from mine. The staple food in both countries is sadza (tshima) but there is variation in that too; I was used to rice. The way of greeting was a handshake and kissing on cheeks in Mozambique whereas in my country we don’t even touch while greeting. We place our hands together and say Namaste. But in Zimbabwe it is just a handshake and if you are close, they hug one another while greeting. The surprising thing in Mozambique was it was difficult to find the person who speaks English.

Primera Impresión o Diferencias: Al principio, me asignaron a Mozambique pero no obtuve mi visa. Entonces, me transfirieron a Zimbabwe y tengo impresiones diferentes en ambos paises. A pesar de que son paises vecinos, el estilo de vida, el idioma, la comida y las personas son drasticamente diferentes y por supuesto, ambos paises son diferentes a los mios. El alimento basico en ambos paises es Sadza (Tshima) pero tambien hay variaciones en eso, yo estaba acostumbrado al arroz. La forma de saludar en Mozambique fue apretar las manos y besar en las mejillas, donde en mi pais ni siquiera tocamos a la otra persona mientras nos saludamos. Unimos mano y decimos “Namaste”. Pero en Zimbabwe es solo un apreton de manos y si estan cercas se abrazan mientras se saludan. Lo sorprendente en Mozambique fue que es dificil encontrar a personas que hablan ingles.

memorable or Funny experience: This was my first time traveling alone far from my country. I had an amazing experience when I reached the South Africa Airport for transit. I felt like I was in a movie for a while seeing lots of African people because I use to watch their songs and sermons on YouTube. I was taken to my host family on the first day I reached Beira, Mozambique. I left my shoes outside the house because it was our culture to put our shoes/slippers outside the house. But after we (MCC Rep and staff) entered the sitting room and sat on the sofa, my host mom brought my sandals near me to wear. I was so surprised that they wear shoes inside the house. Of course, Mozambican greeting was an adjustment for me at the beginning but later I was used to it. In Zimbabwe I got an opportunity to attend a funeral, which amazed me. They buried the body right behind the house. I attended a Zimbabwean wedding, which was a new experience. It was different and more exciting than weddings in my country.

Experiencia Memorable o Divertida: Esta fue mi primera vez viajando solo lejos de mi pais. Tuve una experiencia incredible cuando llegue al aeropuerto de Sudafrica para el transito. Me senti como si estuviera en una pelicula por un tiempo, viendo a mucha gente Africana porque solia ver sus canciones y sermons en Youtube. Me llevaron a mi familia de acogida el primer dia que llegue a Beira Mozambique, deje mis zapatos fuera de la casa porque en nuestra cultura pusimos nuestros zapatos/zapatillas fuera de la casa. Luego, nosotros (representante de CCM y personal) entramos en la sala de estar y nos sentamos en el sofa, mi mama anfitriona me acerco mi sandalia para usarla. Me sorprendio tanto que llevaran zapatos dentro de la casa. Por supuesto, el saludo de Mozambique fue un ajuste para mi al principio, pero luego ya estaba acostumbrado. En Zimbabwe, tuve la oportunidad de asistir a un funeral, que me sorprendio porque enterraron el cadaver justo detras de la casa. Asisti a la boda zimbabuense, que fue una experiencia nueva. Fue diferente y mas emocionante que las bodas en mi pais.

Faith Journey: I chose Africa by faith. I should say I am at MCC by faith. Praise to the Father, my God. He placed me in the right place. When I came to Mozambique and Zimbabwe, the service I went to was completely different than my church back home. The biggest challenge was the language because both services were in the local language. At the beginning, I was enjoying it because I was exploring, but when I continued attending the same service, I felt like I was there just to show my presence. Sometimes I felt like I was not growing. But I started searching for English services and sometimes attended English services. I also went to Bible study on Fridays and attended church on other days if there was a program. I started reading Christian books and my Bible daily. I heard sermons on Youtube and attended conferences. These have helped me a lot for my spiritual growth.

Viaje de la Fe: Elegi Africa por fe y debo decir que estoy con CCM por fe. Alabado sea mi Dios. El me ha colocado en el lugar correcto. Cuando vine a Mozambique y Zimbabwe, el servicio al que fui fue completamnete diferente al de mi iglesia en mi hogar. Lo mas dificil fue el idioma, porque ambos servicios estaban en el idioma local. Al principio, lo disfrute porque estaba explorando, pero cundo sigo asistiendo al mismo servicio senti que estaba alli solo para mostrar mi presencia. A veces senti que no estoy creciendo aqui. Pero lo que empece a hacer es buscar un servicio en ingles y algunas veces asisti al servicio de ingles y Tambien a los estudios biblicos el Viernes, a la iglesia los otros dias si hay programas. Empece a leer libros cristianos y la biblia diariamente. Escuchando sermons de youtube, asistiendo a conferencias, estos son cosas que me ayudaron mucho para mi crecimiento espiritual.

career/professional Development: My dad used to call me a missionary when I served at my church. That is what I am now. I feel working with MCC is a ministry. My work with children is not only a job, but a ministry


(working in the name of Christ). I had a dream to open a children and old age home when I was young. Though I might not start a children’s home soon, this assignment has help me have an idea how to manage everything for children. But I am sure that God is preparing me for so many reasons to work for His Glory and Kingdom. This program has helped me grow in knowledge.

Desarrollo Profesional/Profesional: Mi papa me solia llamar misionera cuando Servia en mi iglesia, eso es lo que soy ahora. Siento que trabajar con CCM es un ministerio, trabajar con niños no es solo un trabajo, es un ministerio (trabajar en el nombre de Cristo). Cuando era joven, tuve el sueño de abrir un hogar para niños y ancianos. Aunque es posible que no empiece a la casa de niños pronto, esta tarea me ha ayudado mucho a tener una idea de como manejar todo para los niños. Pero estoy seguro de que Dios me esta preparando para que muchas cosas funcionen para su gloria y reino. Este programa me ha ayudado a crecer en conocimiento.

new perspectives: Different people have different ways of praising God. One way or the other they are glorifying God. I knew there is no specific rule to praise MY GOD. I have learned to love and respect all people. I really feel how much God loves all people. He loves us. I can feel His love for me and the people here. It is all about God and God’s love not about your color, background, education, position, etc., because only God can change people’s lives (heart, mind, soul). I heartily thank MCC for providing me this opportunity. I am not the same as I was.

Nuevas Perspectivas: Diferentes personas tienen diferentes maneras de alabar a Dios y de una o otra forma lo estan glorificando. Sabia que no hay una regla especifica para alabar a mi Dios. He aprendido a amar y respetar a todas las personas y realmente sentir cuanto ama Dios a todas las personas. El nos ama y siento su amor por mi y para la gente aqui. Se trata de Dios y del amor de Dios, no de que color, fondo, educacion, posicion etc. temenos porque solo Dios puede cambiar la vida de las personas (corazon, mente y alma). Agradezco a CCM por brindarme esta oportunidad. No soy la mismo que era.

Future plans: I want to work more with MCC in Africa, if God wills.

Primera Impresión o Diferencias: Una de las cosas que note que era distinto a mi país es que aquí si usan

correctamente el uso de las direcciones, en mi país para encontrar una dirección se puede usar como referencia desde un árbol, un animal, una pulpería (venta en mi país), una fritanga ja, ja, ja bueno así somos los Nicas, otra cosa diferente es el transporte, los rapiditos son otro nivel en San Pedro Sula.

First impression or Differences: Something I noticed that’s different from my country is the way they use directions. We would use a tree, animal or supermarket as a referance to get around but that’s just how we Nicaraguans are. Another difference is the transportation; it’s at another level here in San Pedro Sula.

Experiencia Memorable o Divertida: Una de las cosas que jamás olvidare es la perseverancia y ganas de luchar de una de las niñas con las que trabajo es impresionante su constante deseo de superación, ella me enseñó a no darme por vencida, que siempre tengo que dar lo mejor de mí, que por muy difícil que se vean las cosas mi actitud ante esta situación es la que hará la diferencia a mi condición en ese momento, también una de las experiencia mas locas y divertida fue cuando hice cuerdas altas con el equipo de CCM Honduras.

memorable or Funny experience: One of the things I will never forget is the perseverance of one of the girls I work with. Her constant desire to excel is impressive. She taught me not to give up, to always give the best of myself however difficult the situation might be. What a difference that has made in my attitude. Also, another crazy and funny experience was when I made high strings with the MCC Honduras team.

Viaje de la Fe: Durante este tiempo he visto o sentido con más fuerza la compañía de Dios en mi vida, he sentido esa sensación de padre protector en muchas más ocasiones que en mi país, también he podido sentir como la paz poco a poco va llenando mi corazón hasta el punto de sentirme totalmente segura, confiada y tranquila.

Faith Journey: During this time, I have seen or felt more strongly the company of God in my life. I have felt that feeling of a protective father on many more occasions than in my country. I have also felt how peace is gradually filling my heart to the extent that I feel totally safe, confident and calm.

Desarrollo Profesional/Profesional: Puedo decir que ahora leo mas y escribo más, ya no soy tan perezosa ja, ja, ja profesionalmente esto me ayuda a no sentir tanta inseguridad al hablar ante una gran cantidad de personas, aun si son mayores que yo, he desarrollado un poco mas mi criterio crítico y analítico algo muy importante en el medio donde trabajo.

career/professional Development: I read and write more. I’m not as lazy anymore, ha-ha. Professionally, this helps me feel more secure when talking to a large number of people, even if they are older than me. I have developed


a little more critical and analytical criteria, something important in the environment where I work.

Planes Futuros: Quisiera hacer dos cosas la primera escribir un pequeño libro describiendo mi experiencia como CCEMERA, y la segunda seguir sirviendo quizás no con CCM, pero si de otra manera.

Future plans: I would like to do two things: first, write a book describing my experience as CCEMERA, and the second, continue to serve perhaps not with MCC, but in another way.

Ana Yulieth Guaza Torres (Colombia)Childcare Worker, El JordanSanta Cruz de la Sierra, Bolívía

Primera Impresión o Diferencias: Mi primera impresión al llegar a Bolívía fue mucho mejor de lo que había imaginado. Pensaba que era un país solo de personas indígenas y que me iban a descrinar por mi color de piel (negra) ya que en mi país no he tenido la oportunidad de compartir mucho con ellos. Uno de los choques fue la forma de ellos hablar de utilizar (ingo- ango) y de reservarse algunas palabras. Ha sido un poco difícil para mí, tener que ver tant machismo; eso fue un poco incomodo ya que en mi país no estaba acostumbrada al ver tanto como acá. Es impresionante saber de que muchas mujeres no pueden sentirse libre o hacer diversas cosas porque sus esposos están reclamando. La vida en santa cruz es un poco acelerada y hay que tratar de acostumbrarse, y doy gracias a Dios por dame la oportunidad de conocer personas muy especiales. En mi area de trabajo tengo la oportunidad de hablar con las estudiantes y sus niños que han estado en las calles, también con algunas que han estado en la cárcel. Tuve la oportunidad de participar en algunas dedes las actividades que el Jordán hace para ayudar a estas mujeres y sus niños, unos de los eventos es navidad en las calles y amistad en las calle; se hace una comida y se va a repartir a la calle con estas personas, es un momento donde se puede conocer un poco ha cerca de ellas y también poder reflexionar juntos.

First impression or Differences: My first impression when I arrived in Bolívía was much better than I had imagined. I thought it was a country only of indigenous people and that they would discriminate against me because of my skin color (black) because in my country I have not had the opportunity to share much with them. One of the things is the way they talk (ingo-ango) and reserve a few words. It has been difficult for me to see so much machismo culture. That was a bit uncomfortable because in my country I was not used to seeing that much. It is impressive to know that many women cannot feel free or do things because of their husbands. Life in Santa Cruz is a little accelerated and you have to try to get used to it, and I thank God for giving me the opportunity to meet

very special people. At work I have the opportunity to talk with the students and their children who have been in the streets, also with some who have been in jail. I had the opportunity to participate in some of the activities that El Jordan does to help these women and their children. One of the events is Christmas and friendship in the streets, a meal is made, and it is going to be distributed to the street people. It’s a moment where you can get to know a little bit about them and also be able to reflect together.

Experiencia Memorable o Divertida: Una de las experiencias más importante que nunca voy a olvidar, fue un viaje que tuvimos con los otros voluntarios al salar de Uyuni un lugar muy turístico y visitado por diversos países. Fue un tiempo de risas y muchas bromas. También pasamos por la nieve ese día llovía demasiado y hacia mucho frio; el auto donde íbamos estuvo a punto de volcarse y se quedo atascado, nos toco ayudar a sacarlo del barro y la nieve. Se majaron las ropas y fue un tiempo de mucha bendición.

memorable or Funny experience: One of the most important experiences that I will never forget was a trip we had with the other volunteers to the Salar de Uyuni, a very touristic place and visited various countries. It was a time of laughter and lots of jokes. We also went through the snow. That day, it was raining, and it was very cold and the car we were in was about to turn when it got stuck. We had to help get it out of the mud and snow. Our clothes got wet, but it was a blessed time.

Viaje de la Fe: La relación con Dios: mi relación con Dios ha mejorado. Este tiempo de servicio ha sido de mucha bendición y también de muchos desafíos. Pero me ha ayudado a depender cada día más de Dios y buscarlo a través de la oración y la lectura de su palabra, puedo darme cuenta que él es mi fortaleza en momentos de alegría y también en tristeza. Él está siempre para ayúdame, aconsejarme y dándome las fuerzas necesarias para cada día seguir adelante. Es tan lindo saber que Dios siempre quiere lo mejor para mí y cada día está hablando por medio de su palabra para que corrija mis errores y trate de imitar a Jesús; Aprendiendo de su amor, humildad y su servicio a las demás personas.

Faith Journey: My relationship with God has improved. This time of service has been a blessing and of many games. But God has helped me every day and through prayer and reading his Word, I realized that he is my strength in times of joy and also in sadness. He is always there to help me, to advise me and give me the necessary strength to keep moving forward. It’s nice to know that God wants the best for me and that He speaks to me through his Word so that I can correct my mistakes and try to be more like Jesus, loving, humble and willing to serve people.

Desarrollo Profesional/Profesional: Este tiempo me ha ayudado en mi crecimiento personal, a saber, tomar


decisiones por mi cuenta y entender que todo el tiempo no van a estar las personas con migo ayudándome. Dios ha abierto una puerta para que le sirva he aprendido a mar a las demás personas, a compartir con ellas y conocerlas. y una de las cosas más importante que debo tener siempre es la humildad. Ya que con orgullo o arrogancia no se puede lograr tal cosa.

career/professional Development: This time has helped me in my personal growth, to know how to make decisions on my own and to understand that people are always going to be there to help me. God has opened a door for me to serve, and I have learned to love other people, to share and get to know them. One of the most important things is to have humility, since with pride or arrogance you can’t achieve good things.

Planes Futuros: En realidad no tengo algo definido. Entiendo que los primeros meses va hacer un poco difícil, he pensado en buscar trabajo y la posibilidad de estudiar algo como trabajo social y seguir participando en la iglesia y las diferentes actividades que se realizan. Ese ha sido mi debate durante este tiempo por que aun no se qué hacer cuando regrese a mi país.

Future plans: Actually, I do not have something definite. I understand that the first months will be a bit difficult. I have thought about looking for a job and possibility of studying something like social work and continue participating in the church, and different activities that are carried out. That has been my debate during this time because I still don’t know that to do when I return to my country.

First impression or Differences: The differences between Uganda and Burkina Faso are very significant. From what I have noticed, the Ugandan people are friendly but less open than Burkinabe; maybe because we do not have the same mode of living. They are more westernized than Burkinabe who are still holding on to the African values.

Primera Impresión o Diferencias: Las diferencias entre Uganda y Brukina Faso son muy significativas. Por lo que he notado, los ugandeses son personas amigables pero menos abiertas que los Brukinabe, tal vez porque no temenos el mismo modo de vivir. Estan mas occidentalizados que los brukineses que aun se aferran a los valores africanos.

memorable or Funny experience: When I came to Uganda, I was taking a walk and a Good Samaritan offered me a ride on his motorcycle. I did not decline his offer because I was tired. Once we reached the hotel where I

was staying, he asked me to pay, unlike in Burkina Faso where there are no motorcycles for public transport since most people have their own. Sometimes people propose to give you a ride free of charge and I thought it was the same in Uganda.

Experiencia Memorable o Divertida: Cuando vine a Uganda, estaba dando un paseo y un buen samaritano me ofrecio un paseo en su motocicleta. No rechace su oferta porque estaba cansado. Una vez que llegamos al hotel donde me alojaba, me pidio que pagara a diferencia de Brukina Faso, donde no hay motocicletas para el transporte publico. La mayoria de las personas tienen sus propias motocicletas. Algunas veces las personas proponen llevarlo gratis y pense que era lo miso en Uganda.

Faith Journey: My faith has grown, by participating in my host family’s church, I have meet mentors from our church and this has made me grow in faith. I have not had struggles in my faith because we attend a Catholic church, and this is my church back in Burkina Faso as well.

Viaje de la Fe: Mi fe ha crecido al participar en la iglesia de mi familia anfitriona, me he reunido con mentores de nuestra iglesia y esto me ha hecho crecer en la fe. No he tenido luchas en mi fe porque asistimos a una iglesia catolica y essta es mi iglesia en Brukina Faso.

career/professional Development: I learned to be professional. I can perceive issues analyze them and propose solutions. Finally, I understood that professional work requires teamwork with colleagues, if you want to excel.

Desarrollo Profesional/Profesional: Aprendi a ser profesional. Puedo percibir problemas al analizarlos y proponer soluciones. Finalmente, entendi que el trabajo prodesional require un trabajo en equipo que se debe decir con las universidades si quiere sobresalir.

new perspectives: Having come from Burkina Faso where my culture is different from the one in Uganda, l have been able to understand and adopt well within the Ugandan culture. I have understood that in order to work in a different set-up, I need to understand their culture and not stick to my culture so that I can live in harmony with the people I serve.

Nuevas Perspectivas: Habiendo venido de Brukina Faso, donde mi cultura es diferente de la de Uganda he podido enterder y adopter bien dentro de la cultura de Uganda. He entendido que para trabajar en una configuracion diferente, necesito entender su cultura y no adherirme a ella para poder vivir en armonia con las personas a lo que sirvo.

Future plans: When I return to Burkina, I would like to continue promoting peace by bringing the knowledge


and experience from Uganda to the local organizations. I would also like to continue with my studies after my assignment.

Primera Impresión o Diferencias: Mi primera impresión al llegar a Honduras fue ver que el país no es muy desarrollado económicamente y que el nivel de pobreza era muy notorio en las calles.

First impression or Differences: My first impression when I arrived in Honduras was to see that the country is not very economically developed and that the level of poverty was very noticeable in the streets.

Experiencia Memorable o Divertida: Una de mis experiencias inolvidables fue mi segundo día en Tegucigalpa, Chris, la coordinadora de grupos y voluntarios de AFE me invito a subir al basurero para conocer un poco del trabajo que realizan, ese día marco mi vida, fue un impacto muy fuerte ver tantas personas trabajando en el basurero y entre ellas niños y niñas exponiéndose al peligro, nunca antes había tenido la oportunidad de ir a un basurero y mucho menos relacionarme con las personas que hacen ese trabajo, pero ese día, aunque el lugar no es del agrado de nadie, yo sentí que estaba donde debía estar, que tenía mucho por hacer y por aprender y que desde ese momento mi vida nunca más volvería a ser la misma.

memorable or Funny experience: One of my unforgettable experiences was on my second day in Tegucigalpa. Chris, the group coordinator, and volunteers from AFE invited me to go to the garbage dump to get to know a little of the work they do, and that day marked my life. It was a very strong impact to see so many people working in the dump, among them children, exposing themselves to danger. I had never had the opportunity before to go to a dump and much less relate to the people who do that work, but that day, although that place is not liked by anyone, I felt that I was where I should be. I had a lot to do and learn, and that from that moment, my life would never be the same again.

Viaje de la Fe: Estando lejos de mi familia, mi único compañero fiel ha sido Dios y él nunca me ha dejado sola, pues ahora más que nunca me siento muy cerca de él.

Faith Journey: Being far away from my family, my only faithful companion has been God and He has never left me alone, because now more than ever I feel very close to him.

Desarrollo Profesional/Profesional: Eh aprendido que nunca es tarde para volver a empezar, y que los sueños pueden hacerse realidad con perseverancia y muchas ganas. Eh aprendido a tener paciencia y flexibilidad, porque las cosas no siempre pasan como las queremos.

career/professional Development: I’ve learned that it’s never too late to start over, and that dreams can come true with perseverance and a lot of desire. Also, to have patience and flexibility because things don’t always happen as we want them too.

Planes Futuros: Por el momento uno de mis planes a Futuro es poder tener un centro de rehabilitación para niños, jóvenes y adolescentes en condición de calle/drogas.

Future plans: For the moment one of my plans for the future is to have a rehabilitation center for children, young people and adults that have drug conditions on the streets.

First impression or Differences: Aside from the bad impression I got from the aerial view of Chad in plane, I felt so disgusted with the state of infrastructural development as I arrived in Moundou with the Chad rep. There were great differences from my first perceptions with respect to what I met in the field. After my first visit to BAOBAB (MCC partner) and my host family, the wrong impression I had deceived me to believe that I can’t thrive, and I was moved to tell Jean Claude (the country rep) that my possibility of continuing with the assignment in the location is slim.

Primera Impresión o Diferencias: Aparte de la mala impresion que tuve de la vista aerea de Chad, me senti tan repugnante del estado debido a su Desarrollo infrastructural cuando llegue a Moundou con el representante de Chad. Hubo grandes diferencias con respect a mis precepciones principals con respect a lo que conoci en el campo. Despues de mi primera visita a BAOBAB (socio de CCM) y mi familia anfitriona, no me impresiono y tuve que decirle a Jean Claude (el representante del pais) que no habia posibilidad de continuar con la tarea en esta ubicacion.

memorable or Funny experience: My funniest moment in Chad was when I felt hungry the first week of my arrival


in the country and there was no French speaker around to take me to a restaurant to eat as usual, owing to the fact that I didn’t know how to speak French language. I had to force myself to a restaurant to have my lunch. On getting there, I was given a menu by one of the attendants and all the items there were written in French. I had to sum up courage to point to a particular item, which amounted to 5000FCF without even knowing how the food would look. Unknowingly to me, I was served a meal that cost more than the actual amount I ordered. I finished eating and gave out 10,000FCF to the lady, expecting her to return 5000FCF in change to me. Instead she was requesting a balance of 2000FCF. It was indeed a terrible and funny moment in my life. As someone could imagine a conversation between two people without a common understanding, the process was indeed dramatic. The scene attracted the concerns of the staff and other customers, who were at the restaurant to join us in the interaction, but to no avail. It took me a long time to understand that I needed to pay a balance of 2000FCF, as there was no effective means of communication between both of us. Moreover, on 20th Sept. 2018, I and the BAOBAB team went to a city called Gondon for training of farmers on livestock breeding techniques. On the training ground, it was so unprecedented for me to see huge number of flies pasting on every one who took part in the program, with little or no attempt made by the people to scare the flies away. I was busy fighting the flies, which resulted in masking my face with towel and I became a laughing stock to the workshop participants.

Experiencia Memorable o Divertida: Un momento divertido en Chad fue cuando fui a buscar comida a un restaurant y nadie quein hablaba frances estaba para acompañarme. Me dieron un menu y todos los articulos estaban escritos en frances. Tuve que resumir el coraje para entregar un nombre de comida en particular que costaba 5000 FCF sin siquiera saber lo que estaba ordenando. Me servieron una comida que era mas que la cantidad real que pedi, termine de comer y le di 10,000 FCF a la dama, esperando que ella me devolviera el cambio de 5000 FCF. Ella Tambien estaba solicitando 2000 FCF para hacer su dinero. Fue realmente un momento terrible y divertido. Como alguien podia imaginar una conversacion entre dos personas sin un entendimiento comun, el proceso fue realmente dramatico. La escena atrajo las preocupaciones del personal y otros clients que estabaj en el restaurante para unirse a nosotros en la misma interaccion, pero sin exito. Me tomo mas tiempo entender que necestiaba entregarla una zuma de 2000 FCF, ya que no habia medios efectivos de comunicacion entre los dos. En septiembre de 2018 el equipo de BAOBAB y yo fuimos a una ciudad llamada Gondon para una capacitacion de agricultores sobre tecnicas de cria de Ganado. Fue tan inaudito para mi ver una gran cantidad de moscas pegado a cada uno de los que participaron en el programa, con ningun intent por parte de la gente para ahuyentar a las moscas. Estaba ocupado luchando contra las moscas, lo que result en cubrir mi cara con una toalla y se convirtio en una accion de risa para los participantes del taller.

Faith Journey: My unrestrained journey with Christ commenced with worshipping in seven different churches when I arrived in Chad, as I had learnt a whole lot from many of the Christian gatherings both in and outside the church premises. Though Christianity is not well rooted in Chad as compared to my country, I had a nice time sharing faith with most of the gospel musicians across the length and breadth of the country. My association with them got me engaged spiritually and also gave me the sense of integration with the Christian folk. It was a moment I got to learn other patterns of music in adoring God. Sequel to Matthew 3:11, which states, “Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise.” I was moved to train three people on how to play saxophone, and that gave me a good sense of judgment that I have harkened to one of the ordinances of Christ Jesus.

Viaje de la Fe: Mi viaje sin restricciones con Cristo comenzo con la adoracion en siete Iglesias diferentes cuando llegue a Chad, ya que habia aprendido mucho de muchas de las reunciones cristianas tanto dentro como fuera de la instalaciones de la iglesia. Aunque el cristianismo no esta bien arraigado en Chad, en comparacion con mi pais me diverti mucho compartiendo mi fe con la mayoria de los musicanos en todo el pais. Mi asociacon con ellos me comprometio con la espititualidad y Tambien me dio la sensacion de integracion en la gente Cristiana. Tue un momento en el que aprendi otro estilo de musica para adorar a Dios. Secuela de Mateo 3:11 que decia que “quien tiene dos tunicas es compartit con quien no tiene, y quien tiene comida debe hacer lo mismo”. Me motivaron a entrenar a tres personas sobre como tocar el saxofon, y eso me dio un buen sentido del juicio que he escuchado a una de las ordenanzas de Cristo Jesus.

career/professional Development: The program allowed me to meet with many people from around the globe, thereby giving me the opportunity to learn peoples’ wealth of knowledge and ideologies in many aspects related to life. Most especially, the assignment boosted my profile through learning a new official language and also contributes to my ascetic lifestyle. The field experiences gotten during my cross-cultural program have given me the motivation to pursue peace as course with the aim of developing a successful model that will bring the governed into the process of decision making and provision of systems for accountability that ensure transparent equitable operations, which enhance provision for physical security, human development and peace at large in my motherland and other places.

Desarrollo Profesional/Profesional: El programa me expuso a reunirme con muchas personas en todo el mundo, lo que me dio la oportunidad de aprender sobre la riqueza de conocimientos e ideologias de las personas en muchos aspectos relacionados con la vida. me han motivado a buscar la paz con el objetivo de desarrollar un modelo exitoso que lleve a los Gobernados al proceso de toma de decisiones y provision de sistemas para la rendición de cuentas que garanticen operaciones transparentes y equitativas, que mejoren la provision para seguridad disica, desarrollo humano y paz general en mi tierra natal y otros lugares.

new perspectives: After the cross-cultural service, I have gotten a strong conviction that exploration to many cultural settings makes life impactful, as well as tremendous contribution to emotional, psychological and physical well-being of a man.

Nuevas Perspectivas: YAMEN me ha dado una fuerte conviccion de que la exploracion en muchos entornos culturales hace que la vida sea impactante, asi como una tremenda contribucion al bienestar emocional, psicologico y fisico de un hombre.

Future plans: I intend to study peace as a course in my master’s program, to have peace as a settled disposition to develop mechanisms for reinforcement of democracy and good governance in my country and beyond.

First impression or Differences: I really enjoy the colorful and wonderful buildings. This is a small and cute city; I can bike everywhere. The sky is always blue with beautiful clouds. Sometimes when I get in a traffic jam, I look upon the sky, and know I will be okay. I remember a song that says that God has not promised skies always blue, but the sky in Cambodia always blue; God loves the people here.

Primera Impresión o Diferencias: Realmente disfruto de los coloridos y maravillosos edificios, esta es una ciudad pequeña y linda, puedo ire n bicicleta a cualquier lado. El cielo siempre es azul con nubes bellas. A veces me meto en un trafico, pero cuando miro hacia el cielo recuerdo una cancion, Dios no ha prometido siempre darnos cielos azules. Pero en Camboya, el cielo siempre es azul, Dios ama a la gente aqui.

memorable or Funny experience: To attend a traditional wedding was a really fun thing for me, wearing their traditional dress and dancing with them. Traveling in Cambodia is a wonderful experience with a lot of natural

places. The bus impressed me the first time I went to another province; it stopped every two or three hours. I didn’t understand at first, and it was a little annoying, but after that, I adapted to this way and I think it’s really comfortable. It is really easy to explore new fruits or other country’s food here. This is a very tolerant city.

Experiencia Memorable o Divertida: Asistir a una boda tradicional fue muy divertido, usar su vestido tradicional y bailar con ellos. Viajar en Camboya es una experiencia maravillosa, mucha naturaleza. El autobus me impresiono, la primera vez que fui a otra provenza, entoncre que el autobus paraba cada 2 o 3 horas. No entiendo, fue un poco molesto, pero despues de eso me asoctumbre y creo que es muy comodo.

Faith Journey: I am really thankful for what I feel here through MCC. My Khmer is how a child speaks, but my host mom always gets what I want to say, and she helps me understand what she is saying. My host family shows me patience and kindness. My host mom is 70 years old, but she cooks for the family and takes care of her grandchildren every day. She works hard for the whole family with love and serves others unselfishly. They opened their door for a stranger like me, prepared dinner for me in such hot weather, making me feel free to live here like a Cambodian. The family is like the good Samaritan. They showed me a new family experience. I’ve learned a lot.

Viaje de la Fe: Estoy agradecido por lo que siento aqui a traves de CCM. Cuando hablo Khmer, es como escuchar a un niño, pero mi madre anfitriona siempre entiende lo que quiero decir y me permite entender lo que esta diciendo. Mi familia anfitriona muestra su paciencia y amabilidad conmigo. Mi madre de acogida tiene 70 años, pero cocina para la familia y cuida a sus nietos todos los días. Ella esta trabajando arduamente para toda la familia con amor, para servir a los demás desinteresadamente. Abrieron la puerta para un desconocido como yo, me prepararon la cena en un clima tan caluroso y me hicieron sentir libre para vivir aquí como un camboyano. La familia es un buen samaritano. Me muestran una nueva experiencia familiar y he aprendido mucho.

career/professional Development: I love where I work – it’s totally different from all the companies where I’ve worked. They work together like a family. My supervisor cooks for everyone occasionally; she is a really good cook and she is always humbly waiting on others. Rather than design, I actually do a lot of handwork with my coworkers. Last week my supervisor took me to a province where Rajana buys handmade scarves. These handicraftsmen make scarves to supplement their family’s income when there is no farm work. It is a very creative thing to do to help people. I do not know yet how these experiences will influence me, but they are precious experiences for me.


Desarrollo Profesional/Profesional: Me encanta donde trabajo, es totalmente diferente a todos los otros trabajos que he tenido. Trabajan juntos como una familia. Mi supervisora ocasionalmente cocina para todos, es muy Buena cocinando y siempre esta humildemente esperando a los demas. En lugar de diseñar, realmente trabajo mucho con mis compañeros de trabajo. La semana pasada, mi supervisor me llevo a una provincia donde Rajan reserca bufandas, trabajo hecho a mano. Estos artesanos hacen bufandas cuando no hay trabajo de granja, para abastecer a su familia. Es una cosa muy creativa para ayudar a la gente. No se como estas experiencias me influenciaron, pero son preciosas para mi.

new perspectives: One time, I was biking on the road, at an intersection, and the traffic was chaotic. I saw two motorcyclists narrowly miss each other. I thought they would be angry. However, they didn’t blame each other, on the contrary, they smiled, and then they went away. This impressed me. I’m always angry with traffic, but if I open my heart to receive the experiences I can find ways to solve this and live at peace with others.

Nuevas Perspectivas: Recorde que una vez estaba montando bicicleta en la Carretera en una interseccion, el trafico esa caotico y vi a dos motociclistas casi choquear. Pense que se enojarian, sin embargo no se culparon. Al contratio, sonreian y luego se alejaban. Esto me impresiono, siempre estoy enfadado en el trafico, pero a traves de el descubri que esta es una Buena manera de resolver esta situacion. Abri mi corazon para recibir a las experiencias, para encontrar una manera pacifica de vivir con otros y obtener experiencias valiosas.

Future plans: I will stay with my parents for a while, then I think I’ll find a job.

First impression or Differences: When I arrived here, I felt like everything was slow. I felt like I did not want to be here with no internet and the food, oh my goodness, all the food has no spices, is plain. Overall, I was struggling when I was new here; the community is as nice as my country. Indian Culture: In India we are free to do anything; we don’t need permission to do things. We are disciplined and we know what we have to do or not do. On other hand, we have freedom to speak what we feel. We give equal preference to men and women. Zimbabwe culture: They are disciplined, but they are overly strict. Sometimes I feel like they don’t give preference to women in anything. You know what I find is that women are more talented, having leadership skills, etc., than men,

but because of cultural things all the women hide their skills. 2) Expense: Everything is expensive in Zimbabwe. I feel like most of the people around here are money oriented – that they only want money. Only some people are kind and don’t expect anything but happiness. 3) Loving nature: All the people around here have a good behavior, more than in my country, and that I love most.

Primera Impresión o Diferencias: Cuando llegue, senti que todo era lento. Senti que no queria estar aqui porque no habia internet y toda la comida es simple, no tiene condimentos. Luche cuando era nuevo aqui, pero la comunidad es agradable, como en mi pais. 1) Cultura India: en la India somos libres de hacer cualquier cosa, no necesitamos permiso para hacer las cosas que somos disciplinados, sabemos lo que Podemos o no Podemos hacer, y por otro lado tenemos la libertad de hablar de lo que sentimos. Damos igual perferencia a hombres y mujeres. Cultura de Zimbabwe: son disciplinados, pero son demasiado estrictos. A veces siento que no dan prederencia a las mujeres en todo lo que sabes. Lo que encuentro es que las mujeres son mas talentosas en habilidades de liderazgo, etc. que los hombres pero debido a la cultura todas las mujeres ocultan su habilidad y siguen adelante. 2) Gastos: todo es mas caro que en mi pais. Zimbabwe: siento que la mayoria de la gente de aqui esta orientada hacia el dinero, solo quieren dinero. Pocas personas son amables y no esperan nada except la Felicidad. 3) Amar la naturaleza: la gente de aqui tiene buen comportamiento, mejor que en mi pais y eso me encanta.

memorable or Funny experience: I was try to eat chili spices with Chance, my friend, and his face became red after eating chili I don’t forget his expression – it was one of my favorite memories; and when I went to Victoria Falls with my friend – that was a best moment.

Experiencia Memorable o Divertida: La experiencia divertida fue cuando intente comer especias de chili con mi amigo, Chanc y su cara se puso roja despues de comer. Faith Journey: When I arrived here, I felt so far away from my home. I didn’t have anyone I love but I felt deep inside my heart that my heavenly Father was with me. I felt his presence. Now it’s been more than seven months and I got in many bad situations, but because of love and the mercy of my Lord I am happy and ready to do my task again.

Viaje de la Fe: Mi viaje de fe comenzo cuando llegue aqui. Me senti muy lejos de casa y no tenia seres queridos aqui, pero en lo mas profundo de mi corazon senti que mi padre celestial esta conmigo, su presencia ha sido por mas de 7 meses. Tuve muchos malos momentos, pero debido al amor y la misericordia de mi señor, estoy feliz y listo para hacer mi tarea nuevamente.


career/professional Development: This was good experience. In my MBA education, I learned theoretical ways; here I got the chance to do it practically. If we are talking about professional development, now I know how to manage work from different departments, and improved my decision making. Overall it was really good experience.

Desarrollo Profesional/Profesional: Esta fue una Buena experiencia. En mi educacion aprendi teorica y ahora tuve la oportunidad de hacer practicas. Si habalmos de desarollo profesional, ahora se como gestionar el trabajo de diferentes departamentos, la toma de decisions y en general fue la mejor experiencia de mi vida.

new perspectives: To be very honest I feel like now I am eligible to pay my own bills and be independent. Now days I am not using my phone a lot. I’m not as lazy. I am career oriented now. Personally, I feel that I am ready to take on responsibility of my church management work.

Nuevas Perspectivas: Para ser honesto, siento que ahora soy elegible para pagar mis propias cuentas. No uso mi telefono tanto como sea, no soy perezoso y soy mas orientado a mi Carrera. Personalmente, siento que estoy listo para asumir la responsabilidad del trabajo de la administacion de mi iglesia.

First impression or Differences: Zambia is totally different from Cambodia. Zambian eats Nshima while Cambodian eat rice. They don’t use spices to cook, only salt. They way of preparing food is very simple by frying meat or green leaf vegetables with onion and tomato. Of course, how people look outwardly is different, but we all have the same love and salvation. Zambia has 720 tribes and languages, but the good thing is their official language is English, which is good for me. People here have strong beliefs and they believe in prophesy so much. There is not much international investment in this country, so a lot of people struggle. Most of the businesses are run by Chinese and Indians, so a lot of Zambians become blue-collar workers to make a living.

Primera Impresión o Diferencias: Zambia es totalmente diferente de Camboya. Los zambianos comen Nshima mientras que los camboyanos comen arroz. No usan condimentos para cocinar, solo sal y la forma de preparer la comida es muy simple. Al freir la carne o las hojas verdes de vegetales con cebolla y tomate. Por supuerto, las personas se ven diferentes pero todos tenemos el

mismo amor y salvacion. Zambia tiene 720 tribus e idiomas, pero lo Bueno es que su idioma official es el ingles, que es buena manera de comunicarme con ellos. Las personas aqui tienen una fuerte creencia y creen tanto en lo profetico. No hay mucha inversion internacional en este pais, asi que la gente lucha. La mayoria de los negocios estan a cargo de chinos e indios, por lo que gran parte de Zambia se convierte en obrera para ganarse la vida.

memorable or Funny experience: I remember my second day in Zambia. There was a scavenger hunt with the MCC Zambia Rep, the exchange coordinator, a former IVEPer, YAMENer, SALTer, and me. That was a great experience for me that I was the important person in that game. We divided into two groups. I had to find out different things like the bus ticket price and time to get to my assignment place, the location of church, hospital and market. I also have to buy potatoes, onions and Chitanga cloth in Lusaka central market. The hard thing was, I had to learn four different languages to greet and ask the price. I felt so silly when I tried to speak that new language the first time. I couldn’t do it correctly at first, which made everyone laugh. Afterward, the two team came together and checked who got the more points. Finally, my team won, so the prize was yummy ice cream for everyone, and I got a beautiful Chitanga cloth.

Experiencia Memorable o Divertida: Recuerdo mi Segundo dia en Zambia, hubo una busqueda del Tesoro en la que participaron representanted de CCM Zambia, coordinador intercambiando, el ex IVEPer, YAMENer, SALTer y yo. Fue una gran experiencia para mi que yo fuera una persona importante en ese juego y nos dividimos en dos grupos. Tuve que descubrir cosas diferentes como el precio de un boleto de autobus, el tiempo hasta mi lugar de asignacion y la ubicacion de la iglesia, el hospital y el Mercado. Tambien tuve que comprar papas, cebollas y telas de Chitanga en el Mercado central de Lusaka. Lo dificil fue que tuve que aprender 4 idiomas diferentes sobre saludo y pedir el precio. Me senti tan tonto cuando intento hablar el nuevo idioma al principio y no pude decir las cosas correctamente, lo que hizo que todos se rieran de mi. Despues, los dos equipor se reunieron y comprabaron quien obtuvo la mayor cantidad de puntos. Finalmente, mi equipo gano asi que el precio era un helado delicioso para todos y me compraron una hermosa tela de Chitanga.

Faith Journey: I always question God why he took me to Zambia and away from my family when they needed help the most. My family had many problems early in my term. It was very painful to hear about it and not be able to do anything to help them. So, the idea of going home early came to mind. I did want to go back home but praying helped me to stay calm. God is always faithful. I knew even I went back I could not help them much, so I decided what I could do was give everything to God and trust in him; let God do it for me. One more thing is, life


in African village is not easy. I eat different food, work with different people and worship in a different style. All I could do is keep an open mind, be patient and be faithful to God.

Viaje de la Fe: Siempre le pregunto a Dios, por que me llevo a Zambia? Lejos de mi familia cuando mas necesitan mi ayuda. Mi familia tuvo muchos problemas durante el inicio de mi termino, fue muy doloroso escuchar sobre eso y no poder ayudarlos. Asi que la idea era ir a casa antes de que terminara el termino, pero en ese momente, cuando queria ir a casa rece y eso me ayudo a mantener la calma. Dios siempre es fiel. Sabia que regresar no los ayudaria mucho, asi que lo que podria hacer es darle todo a Dios y confiar en el. Deje que Dios lo haga por mi. Una cosa mas es que la vida en una aldea Africana no es facil. Tengo que comer comida diferente, trabajar con personas diferentes y adorar en un estilo diferente. career/professional Development: I have learnt the basics about peacebuilding in school, community and at home. This is a very useful skill because I can use this skill not just at work but it’s all about people, everywhere. This is a life skill about how to avoid violence and conflict.

Desarrollo Profesional/Profesional: Aprendi lo basico sobre la construccion de la paz en la escuela, la comunidad y el hogar. Esta es una habilidad muy util porque puedo usarla no solo en el trabajo sino en todas partes donde haya personas. Esta es una habilidad de vida sobre como evitar la violencia y el conflicto.

new perspectives: My view has changed. Before I came to Zambia, I was scared of African people because of their skin and their appearance. Now, I realized that God created every human to have beauty in different ways, no matter who you are. Zambian people are nice, friendly and helpful, as I now know through my experience with them in Zambia. When I go back home, I will tell my family, friends and people what I know to change their view of African people.

Nuevas Perspectivas: Mi vista ha cambiado, antes de venir a Zambia tenia miedo de los africanus debido a su piel y apariencia. Me di cuenta de que Dios creo a cada ser humano para tener belleza de diferentes maneras. Puedo decir que la gente de Zambia es agradable, amable y servicial a traves de mi experiencia. Cuando regrese a casa, le dire a mi familia, amigos y las personas que conozco que cambien la forma en que ven a los africanos.

Future plans: I may look for a work that relates to peace or continue for a master’s degree in public health, if it’s God plan.

First impression or Differences: Colombia is known for drugs, crime and political instability by the outside world. This is why I was a little nervous about coming to Colombia before my assignment. However, when I landed in Bogota then to La Mesa, I was overwhelmed by the friendliness shown to me. That’s when I realized that Colombian people are friendlier and more welcoming to strangers, even more than where I come from. I was mesmerized by their greeting, which is kissing on the cheek, because I’m not used to that in my culture. As a geographer, I also noticed the differences in landscape and scenery. Colombia has beautiful, appealing scenery and landscape.

Primera Impresión o Diferencias: Colombia es conocida por las drogas, el crimen y la inestabilidad politica en el mundo exterior. Por eso estaba un poco nervioso por venir a Colombia antes de mi asignacion. Sin embargo, cuando aterrice en Bogota y luego a La Mesa, me abrumo la amabilidad que me mostraron. Fue entonces cuando me di cuenta de que los colombianos son mas amigables y mas acogedores con los extraños, incluso mas que de donde vengo. Me sorprendio su saludo, que es besarse en la mejilla porque no estoy acostumbrado a eso en mi cultura. Como geogrado, Tambien note la diferencia en el paisaje que son hermosos y actractivos.

memorable or Funny experience: In my country we drive on the right but here in Colombia they drive on the left. On my first day to work I had to take a bus on my own, but because I’m used to the fact that in my country we drive on the right, I waited for the bus on the right side of the road at the bus stop. The bus came and I stopped it, however there was no passenger door for me to get in on the right side of the bus, so I almost entered through the driver’s door. I was like a lost chicken and some people laughed at me. Some tried to tell me that the door is on the other side, but I didn’t understand anything because I wasn’t speaking Spanish at the time. A few moments later I remembered that here in Colombia they drive on the left, which obviously means the passenger door is on the right. How silly I was!

Experiencia Memorable o Divertida: En mi pais manejamos a la derecho, pero aqui en Colombia conducen a la izquierda. En mi primer dia de trabajo tuve que tomas un autobus por mi cuenta, pero como estoy acostumbrado al hecho de que en mi pais manejamos a la derecha, espere el autobus en el lado derecho de la Carretera. Llego el autobus y lo detuve, sin embargo no habia una Puerta de pasajeros para que pudiera entrar por el lado derecho del autobus por lo que casi entre por la Puerta del conductor. Era como un pollo perdido y algunas personas se reian de mi. Algunos


trataron de decirme que la Puerta estaba al otro lado, pero no entendi nada porque no hablaba español en ese momento. Unos momentos despues recorde que aqui en Colombia conducen por la izquierda, lo que obviamente significa que la Puerta del pasajero esta a la derecho y no a la izquierda. Que tonta era!

Faith Journey: The first two months were very difficult for me. Most people in Colombia don’t speak English, especially in a small town like La Mesa. Therefore, they don’t use English in worship. I used to go to church, but I wouldn’t understand anything. It was hard to understand anything during Bible studies. However, I had to adapt and realize that God is not hindered by language or culture. This gave me even more motivation to learn and understand Spanish. There is also not much dancing and charisma like in Africa in general, therefore it was a little hard for me to get used to the new style of worship.

Viaje de la Fe: Los dos primeros meses fueron muy dificiles para mi, la mayoria de la gente aqui no habla ingles, especialmente en un pequeño pueblo como La Mesa. No usan el ingles en la adoracion y yo soli air a la iglesa pero no entendia nada. Fui dificil de entender nada durante las sesiones de estudio biblico. Sin embargo, tuve que adaptarme y darme cuanta de que Dios no se va obstaculizado por el lenguaje o la cultura. Esto me dio aun mas motivacion para aprender y entender el español. Tampoco hay mucho baile y carisma como en Africa, por lo que me costo un poco acostumbrarme al nuevo estilo de adoración.

career/professional Development: As an educator myself, working in an educational setting abroad, in a different culture has completely transformed my perceptions and mindset toward imparting knowledge. I have learnt that being an educator is way deeper than holding a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or even a Ph.D., in education. It entails passion, care and love for the students entrusted in your hands by the parents.

Desarrollo Profesional/Profesional: Como educador, trabajando en un entorno educativo en el extranjero, en una cultura diferente ha transformado por complete mis percepciones y mentalidad para impartit conocimiento. He aprendido que ser un educador es mucho mas profundo que tener una licenciatura, una maestria o incluso un doctorado en educacion. Implica passion, cuidado y amor para los estudiantes que sus padres confian en tus manos.

new perspectives: Serving in another country has made me realize that life is not only about caring for yourself, but it is also about serving other people. I have learnt to accept other people as they are, regardless of cultural background, race, social status or even gender orientation.

Nuevas Perspectivas: Servir en otro pais me ha hecho darme cuenta de que la vida no se trata solo de cuidarse

a uno mismo, sino tambien de servir a otras personas. Aprendi a aceptar a otras personas tal como son, independientemente de su origen, cultura, raza, estatus social o incluso orientacion de genero.

Future plans: I plan to follow my career path, which is education. I have more passion now than ever before. I also wish to continue serving with MCC in the future, if opportunities become available. I will also start Spanish classes in my church and teach those who would like to learn because I have realized how important it is to know more than one language.

Planes Futuros: Planeo seguir mi trayectoria profesional, que es la educacion. Ahora tengo mas passion que nunca. Tambien deseo continuar sirviendo con CCM en el futuro, si hay oportunidades disponibles. First impression or Differences: I did little research prior to coming to Bogotá to surprise myself (looking back it was not a good idea!). I thought since Colombia is located in Latin America, it was going to be tropical paradise, but I was TOTALLY WRONG. Bogotá is located high in the mountains, so it was cold and rainy.

Primera Impresión o Diferencias: Hice algunas investigaciones previa sobre la ciudad andes de venir a Bogota, para sorprenderme (no era una Buena idea). Pense que como Colombia esta ubicada en America Latina iba ser un Paraiso tropical, pero estaba TOTALMENTE EQUIVOCADO! Bogota se encuentra en lo alto de las montañas, por lo que era frio y lluvioso.

memorable or Funny experience: Colombian food always shocks me! They mix avocado with rice, with meat, with potatos, all on one plate! My Indonesian stomach just could never get used to it.

Experiencia Memorable o Divertida: La comida colombiana siempre me choca! Mezclan aguacate con arroz, carne y papa en un solo plato! Mi estomago indonesio nunca podria acostumbrarse.

Faith Journey: I feel like my identity as a Christian is even stronger. Coming from a country with the biggest Muslim population in the world, being a Christian means being a minority and there are a lot of challenges that I, as a minority, experience. But this year of service has truly strengthened my faith and confidence in Christ.

Viaje de la Fe: Siento que mi identidad como Cristiano es mas fuerte. Viniendo de un pais con la mayor población musulmana del mundo, ser Cristiano significa ser una minoria y hay muchos desafios con eso. Este año de servicio realmente ha fortalecido mi fe y confianza en Cristo.

career/professional Development: Working with Mennonite World Conference (MWC) has been one of the most satisfying career highlights in my life. I study communications in Indonesia and my job with MWC really fits what I study. It gives me international insight on communications, especially in public relations and on effectively utilizing social media for a global audience.

Desarrollo Profesional/Profesional: Trabajar con la Conferencia Mundial Menonita ha sido uno de los momentos mas satisfactores de mi Carrera. Estudio Comunicaciones en Indonesia y mi trabajo con CMM realmente encaja con lo que estudio. Me da una vision internacional sobre las Comunicaciones, especialmente en las relaciones publicas yu en la utilizacion eficaz de los medios sociales para la audiencia global.

new perspectives: Being in a new country is hard. Sure, I had my host family, friends, and MCC staff to help me adapt to new cultural settings, but mostly I had to rely on myself. I realize I am stronger than I give myself credit for. I learned to value myself even more and see me the way God sees me, which sounds very easy, but it actually takes real effort.

Nuevas Perspectivas: Estar en un pais nuevo es dificil. Claro que tuve mi familia anfitriona, amigos y al personal de CCM para que ayudara a adaptarme a los nuevos entornos culturales, pero sobre todo tuve que confiar en mi mismo. Me doy cuenta de que soy mas fuerte de lo que me doy credito. Aprendi a valorarme mas y verme como Dios me ve, lo cual suena muy facil pero en realidad me cuesta mucho hacerlo.

Future plans: Finish college and get that communications degree! I will also continue my position in MWC as a volunteer in Indonesia.

First impression or Differences: I felt like I was in the seventh heaven, as I came across Cambodia’s most popular means of transport – tuk tuks; then to realize that even a grade 8 student owned a motor. Coming from the small mountainous country of Lesotho, where we do not normally see people riding motors, I was really impressed. Cambodia! What a breathtaking country, or should I say it is the most impressive country I have ever been to? The food that was prepared for us on our first day was mouthwatering. To think I had so many questions on my mind, I mean people were very welcoming!

Primera Impresión o Diferencias: Senti que estaba en el septimo cielo, como me encontre con la forma de transporte mas popular de Camboya “Tuk Tuks” llegando a darse cuenta de que incluso un estudiante del octavo grado poseia una moto. En Lesotho, normalmente no vemos a personas que viajan en moto,


asi que me impresiono mucho. Camboya, que pais tan impresionante. O deberia decir que es el pais mas impresionante en el que he estado? La comida que nos prepararon el primer dia fue feliciosa, tenia tantas preguntas en mente. La gente era muy acogedora!

memorable or Funny experience: I remember vividly the day Martin Hofkamp taught me how to ride a bike. When I thought of Cambodian traffic, I was terrified. My bike teacher kept telling me how brave I was. Riding a bike for the first time was the best thing that ever happened to me. Everything turned out so perfect that I couldn’t believe myself, biking on the busy streets of Phnom Penh. Oh! My God! Khmer school, what a funny experience! The language was so hard that I would cry and laugh at myself.

Experiencia Memorable o Divertida: Recuerdo vividamente el dia que Martin Hofkamp me enseñó a andar en bicicleta, cuando pensé en el trafico camboyano, me aterrorizaba! Mi profesor de bicicletas me decía lo valiente que era. Montar en bicicleta por primera vez fue lo mejor que me ha pasado. Quiero decir, todo resulto tan perfecto que no me podía creer, andar en bicicleta en la concurrida calle de Phnom Penh. Oh, Dios mio! Escuela Khmer, ¿qué graciosa experiencia? El lenguaje era tan duro que lloraba y me reía de mi misma.

Faith Journey: One thing I have realized is that I grew more in spirit as a lot has been happening in my life lately. I was raised in the Catholic faith, but this year I allowed myself to experience Christianity in a different church and so far, it had been a great journey. For the first time in my life, I can feel the presence of the Lord and I can see him work in my life. The truth is that I have seen wonders. Talking with Zakary Koftinoff about the Christian life really helped me to open up. I can see my faith growing day by day. Yes, it is true that the language was the most challenging thing at first, but when God realized how much I wanted more of him, the church introduced English services. Aren’t I blessed?

Viaje de la Fe: Una cosa de la que me he dado cuanta es que creci mas espiritualmente, ultimamente han pasado muchas cosas en mi vida. Fui criada como catolico, pero este año me permiti experimentar el cristianismo en una iglesa diferente y hasta ahora ha sido un gran viaje. Por primera vez en mi vida puedo sentir la presencia del Señor, puedo verlo trabajar en mi vida. La verdad es que he visto maravillas, y hablar con Zakary Koftinoff sobre la vida como cristiano realmente me ayudo a abrirme. Puedo ver mi fe crecer día a día. Si, es cierto que el lenguaje fue lo mas difícil al principio, pero cuando Dios se dio cuenta de cuanto mas quería de el, la iglesia introdujo el Servicio en ingles. No soy bendecida?

career/professional Development: I have gained teaching and leadership skills. I have learnt to be patient, brave in everything I do, to face any challenges. I grew up as a

short-tempered person, however, working with students changed something deep inside of me. For I now know that the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. As my career involves working with people, I believe that I will be able to work with all people without any fear!

Desarrollo Profesional/Profesional: He adquirido habilidades de enseñanza y liderazgo, además de que he aprendido a ser paciente y valiente en todo lo que hago, para poder enfrentar cualquier desafio. Creci como una persona de mal genio, sin embargo trabajar con estudiantes cambio algo muy dentro de mi. Ahora se que la ira del hombre no produce la justicia de Dios. Como mi carrera implica trabajar con personas, creo que podría trabajar con todas las personas sin ningún temor.

new perspectives: I have always underestimated myself, but now I see myself as a young strong girl who would do anything that comes her way. Furthermore, I came to understand other people’s lifestyles, beliefs and cultures without any judgment. I also came to realize that mankind has one soul and one body regardless of our different skin tone or color.

Nuevas Perspectivas: Siempre me he subestimado, pero ahora me veo como una joven fuerte que haria cualquier cosa que se le presente. Tambien llegue a entender el estilo de vida, las creencias y la cultura de otras personas sin juzgarlas. Me di cuenta de que como humanidad, todos temenos un alma y un cuerpo, independientemente de nuestro tono o color de piel diferente.

Future plans: God has blessed me so much this year, I have been thinking about what I can do to give back to my community. I want to open a vegetable farm and create jobs for youth in my community! And also, to open an English pre-school, for I know how important it is for children to learn English at the young age.

Planes Futuros: Dios me ha bendecido mucho este año, he estado pensando en lo que puedo hacer para devolverle a mi comunidad. Quiero abrir una granja de vegetables y crear empleos para jóvenes en mi comunidad. También quiero abrir un programa preescolar de ingles, porque se lo importante que es para los niños aprender ingles desde una edad temprana.

First impression or Differences: To this point I can say that arriving in my host country was really important for me because of discovering differences between my home country and this new one. I can list essential differences


at the following levels: About the culture, in my host country to greet someone you have to ask about the health for that person, his family members, his activities, and even about his neighbors. Another very important element is blessing each other or one another and everybody has to answer by Amina (amen). In my home country, people don’t care about asking many questions. When they greet each other they just say, “Hello, how are you? Fine.”, which in my language, Swahili, is, “Jambo! Abari gani? Muzuri.” In addition, people from my home country have a great consideration for someone who wears expensive clothes. In my host country people don’t care about great or expensive clothes, but they do respect one another despite social rank levels. I can also say that women riding motorbikes in my host country surprised me when I arrived at the airport of Ouagadougou. In my home country, especially in Bukavu where I was born, women cannot drive motorbikes, but in Burkina Faso it is normal. Apart from that, food, religion, climate... all are very different.

Primera Impresión o Diferencias: Hasta este punto puedo decir que llegar a mi pais anfitrion fue muy importante para mi, para descubrir todas las diferencias entre mi pais de origen y Brunika Faso. Entonces puedo citar esencialmente diferencias en los siguientes niveles. Acerca de la cultura, por ejemplo: Puedo decir brevemente que en mi pais anfitrion hay algunas diferencias particulares, como la forma de saludar a alguien. Tiene que preguntar sobre la salud de esa persona, los miembros de su familia, sus actividades e inclusuo sobre sus vecinos. Otro elemento muy importante es bendesirse unos a los otros, y todos tienen que responder con “Amina” (Amen). En mi pais de origen, a la gente no le gusta hacer muchas preguntas. Cuando se saludan, se limitan; hola, como estas, bien? Lo que seria Swahili; “Jambo! Abari gani? Musuri” en mi idioma. La gente de mi pais de origen tiene una gran consideracion por alguien que usa ropa cara. En Brukina Faso, donde las personas no se preocupan por la ropa costosa, pero se respetan mutuamente a pesar de los niveles de rango social. Tambien puedo decir que las mujeres solian andar en motocicletas en mi pais anfitrion y eso me sorprendio cuando llegue al aeropuerto de Ouagadougou. En mi pais de origen, especialmente en la ciudad llamada Bakavu donde naci, las mujeres no pueden conducir una motocicleta. Pero aca en Brukina faso, eso es normal. Aparte de eso, la comida, la religion y el clima son muy diferentes a mi pais de origen.

memorable or Funny experience: What a good question! YAMENers and SALTers are used to doing the village orientation here in Burkina Faso in the village called Mosoudougou in Kédougou Province, which is out of the city of Ouagadougou. For me my village orientation was my best moment, unforgettable. I was really surprised to see the way people welcomed me warmly and smiling. I cannot forget Kinani’s family, the way they welcomed me. So, when I arrived in my host country first thing I did it was start learning the local language,

Moore, most spoken in Ouagadougou where I served. However, Mossoudougou village people don’t speak Moore, they speak Turka and Dioula So, it was very funny spending time with the very kind people, but we couldn’t talk or sharing stories. I did find there one sister who spoke French and she helped to translate. Whenever I had to introduce myself my name made people laugh because no one in my host country has ever heard my name. It was too funny to be pronounced here in Burkina Faso. And also, I remember when I was invited by my one local friend to his home and then he put food on the table; it was meat and rice. I asked him what type of meat it was, and he told me that it’s dog. I refused to eat; I told him that I’m full. From that day to now, he became like my enemy and doesn’t like even to greet me, just because I refused to eat. I tried to explain to him that I really like animals, especially dogs, but he didn’t understand. It was so funny.

Experiencia Memorable o Divertida: Que buena pregunta! YAMENers y SALTers se utilizan para orientar en el pueblo aqui en Brukina Faso, en el pueblo llamado MOSOUDOUGOU en la provincia de Kedougou aqui en Brukina Faso pero fuera de la cuidad de Ouagadougou. Para mi fue mi mejor momento, inolvidable haciendo la orientacion de mi aldea organizada por CCM Brukina Faso. Me sorprendio mucho ver la forma en que la gente me recibia calidamente y sonriendo. No puedo olvidar a la familia Kinanis, por la forma en que me recibieron. Lo recordare por siempre. Entonces, cuando llegue lo primero que hice fue aprender el idioma local llamado Moore, el idioma que mas se habla en la ciudad donde servi. Fue muy divertido pasar tiempo con la gente, son muy amable pero no se puede hablar o compartir historias. Habia una persona que hablaba Frances y ella me ayudo a traducir. En cualquier lugar de mi pais anfitrion, cuando me presento, mi nombre hace reir a la gente porque no hay nadie mas con el nombre MUSHAGALUSA MASTAKI KENDRI. Tambien recuerdo que cuando un amigo local me invito a su casa, puso la comida en la mesa. Era carne y arroz. Entonces, cuando le pregunte que animal era la carne, me dijo que era la carne de un perro. Me niego a comer, le dije que estaba lleno. Desde entonces, hasta hoy se convirtio en mi enemigo. A el ni siquiera le gusta saludarme solo porque me negue a comer. Trate de explicarle que realmente me gustan los animales, especialmente el perro, pero el no entendio. Fue tan gracioso.

Faith Journey: I want to clarify that I’m a Mennonite Christian in Congo, and there I was serving well in my home church without laziness. According to Roman 12:11, “Not lagging in diligence; fervent in spirit serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope; enduring steadfastly in prayer; contributing to the need of the Saints; giving to hospitality.” Quickly, I integrated in a church called Tanghin Taambila in the Assemblies of God denomination, where I served in the same way I was serving in my home country sharing my faith experiences,


for example organizing prayer with youth, teaching Sunday school, teaching Christian songs in different languages, especially in my own language like Lingala and Swahili. From time to time I pray with my host father in case of temptation, or troubles; reading Bible, praying, listening and singing spiritual songs helped me a lot. So, I daily experienced the presence of God in my life. I can say that I didn’t faced much difficulties in my faith journey, thanks to the powerful hand of God.

Viaje de la Fe: Quiero aclarar que soy un cristiano menonita en el Congo (mi pais de origen, en la ciudad de Bukavu) y alli servi muy bien a mi iglesia local sin pereza. De acuerdo con Romanos 12 :11 Trabajen con mucho ánimo, y no sean perezosos. Trabajen para Dios con mucho entusiasmo. Rapidamente me integre en una iglesia llamada Tanghin Taambila, con una denominacion llamada Assemblee de Dieu (Asambleas de Dios) donde servi de la misma manera que Servia en mi pais al compartir mis experiencias de fe por ejemplo, organizando oraciones con jovenes, enseñando a la escuela dominical, enseñando canciones cristianas en diferentes idiomas, especialmente mi propio idioma como Lingala, Swahili. Aparte de que de vez en cuando solia orar con mi padre anfitrion, y en caso de tentacion o problemas, leer la biblia, orar, escuchar y cantar canciones espitiruales me ayudo mucho. Entonces, experimente diariamente la presencia de Dios en mi vida, lo que podia decir simpelemnte que no enfrente muchos difucultades en el camino de la fe gracias a la ponderosa mano de Dios.

career/professional Development: Thanks to the grace of almighty God, I realized a positive change in my professional development. Being able to work with people different from you is really formative. For instance, I learnt how to work with people of different social economic levels, cultures, lifestyles. Supporting intensive work and working hard are part of my daily experience. I can say that I have been positively influenced in my career aspirations.

Estar en el extranjero para trabajar con otras personas es realmente formativo. Por ejemplo, aprendi a trabajar en economia social, trabajando entre personas de diferentes culturas, personajes, maneras de vivir, trabajo intensivo y el trabajo intensivo esta entre mis habilidades de experiencia diaria. Solo puedo decir que realmente he sido influenciado positivamente en mi aspiracion de Carrera.

new perspectives: After cross-cultural service, I have new perspectives. First is self-training because that manner of experiencing new life conditions through culture, I noticed a change of personality. I can say that I realized how getting along with people or considering another person different from you is very important. Going back to my home country I think about adopting social

principles (understanding everybody’s style of life) in order to make people understand that life is not limited to material and financial goals but goes beyond that.

Nuevas Perspectivas: Despues del servicio intercultural, realmente tengo uevas perspectivas. Primero puedo hablar sobre el autoaprendizaje porque esa forma de experimentar nuevas condiciones de vida a traves de la cultura, luego note un cambio de personalidad y todavia obtengo otra vida. Puedo decir que me di cuenta de que es muy importante que me moleste con las personas o que considere a otra persona tuya. Hacia mi pais de origen, solo pienso en adopter principios sociales (entender el estilo de vida de todos) para que la gente entienda que la vida no se limita a objectivos maternales y financieros, sino que va mas alla.

First impression or Differences: My first impression was, “Wow, it’s very hot and difficult to be here.” It is very different from my country, seeing the way they live. The food they eat has a lot of carbohydrates. The peple are wonderful, very welcoming and always supporting me and willing to learn. I also felt welcomed as an important piece in the development of the projects of the MCC partners.

Primera impresión o diferencias: El clima era una de las diferencias más significativas que note al principio; el clima húmedo y cálido, luego viviendo en una ciudad para mi era una experiencia totalmente nueva ya que nací y crecí en campo con animales y tierra, después me di cuenta de las diferencias en el español de mi país hacia Bolívía, luego las comidas típicas son muy ricas y totalmente diferentes a las que conocía de mi entorno.

First impression or Differences: The weather was one of

the most significant differences I noticed at the beginning; the humid and warm climate. Then living in a city for me was a totally new experience since I was born and raised in the country-side with animals and land. Later I realized the differences between the Spanish from my country and the Spanish from Bolivia. The typical foods are very rich and totally different from the ones I was familiar with.

Experiencia Memorable o Divertida: Creo que lo más memorable fue cuando como equipo de YALT (YAMEN & SALT) fuimos a hacer un viaje de 1 semana a algunos lugares hermosos de Bolívía y en especial hacia el salar de Uyuni. El salar es un lago de sal de 112 km de largo y 80 km de ancho, y es un espejo enorme con el reflejo que hace el agua sobre la sal. Aparte visitamos los diferentes lagos con flamencos en cantidades incontables, rocas en forma de árbol, comimos carne de llama, queso de oveja, pero también nos plantamos (atascamos) en lo alto de las montañas en la nieve y lodo, no había otros vehículos a la vista que nos pudieran ayudar ni viviendas cerca y se estaba acercando el atardecer, pero al final salimos y pudimos avanzar nuestro tour.

memorable or Funny experience: I think the most memorable thing was when the YALT team (YAMEN & SALT) went on a one-week trip to some beautiful places in Bolivia, especially to the Salar de Uyuni. The salar is a salt lake of 112 km long and 80 km wide and is a huge mirror with the reflection made by the water on salt. We also visited the different lakes with flamingos in countless numbers, rocks in the form of a tree. We ate llama meat, sheep cheese, but we also got stuck at the top of the mountains in the snow and mud. There were no other vehicles in sight that could help us or homes nearby and it was approaching dusk, but in the end, we got out and could advance our tour.

Viaje de la Fe: He crecido bastante espiritualmente, y estoy muy contento de haber encontrado una iglesia en Bolívía donde en este tiempo de servicio me siento en casa y donde puedo servir a dios, pero necesito diariamente de mi dios y no puedo estar sin él, por qué él es, el que me da fuerza de servirle en las buenas y en las malas. He aprendido que estar en comunicación a través de la oración es un tesoro que los hijos de dios tenemos y podemos confiar en el en cada situación.

Faith Journey: I have grown spiritually, and I am very happy to have found a church in Bolivia where I feel at home and where I can serve God. I need God daily, and I cannot be without him because He is the one who gives me strength to serve in good and bad times. I have learned that being in communication through prayer is a treasure that God’s children have, and we can trust in each situation.

First impression or Differences: I saw many beautiful temples, at least one in each village. Women are wearing traditional skirts (sin) everyday especially in formal situation. The patterns are beautiful. They wear them to church, too. This is really different compare to my home church. In my home church we do not wear traditional attire; only at certain events might we wear traditional clothes.

Primera Impresión o Diferencias: Vi muchos templos hermosos, al menos uno en cada pueblo. Mujeres con faldas tradicionales todos los dias, especialmente en situacion formal. Son hermosos y tambien lo llevan a la iglesia. Esto es diferente en comparacion con mi iglesia en casa. En mi iglesia, no llevamos atuendos tradicionales, solo en ciertos eventos llevariamos ropa tradicional.

memorable or Funny experience: My host family invited me to have supper by asking “Grace, do you want to eat feet?” I thought that she cooked chicken feet and actually I was fine eating chicken feet because in my home country I ate chicken feet. But when I opened the food cover, what I saw was fish. I was trying to look for the chicken feet, but I could not find any. I asked her “where is the chicken feet?” She replied, “No. This is feet.” Then I realized and said “Oh. What you mean is fish.” As time goes by, I realize that it’s a little hard to pronounce “sh” as ending sound for some people here.

Experiencia Memorable o Divertida: Mi familia anfitriona me invito a cenar preguntando “Grace, quieres comer pies?” Pense que ella cocinaba patas de pollo y en realidad yo estaba bien comiendolo porque en mi pais Tambien comia patas de pollo, pero cuando abri la comida, lo que vi fue “pescado”. Estaba tratando de buscar las patas de pollo, pero no pude encontrar. Le pregunte, “donde estan las patas de pollo?”, Ella respondio: “no, esto es pies”. Entonces me di cuenta y dije, ohh, lo que quieres decir es pescado. A medida que pasa el tiempo, me doy cuenta de que es dificil pronuncias “s, sh” como el sonido final para algunas personas aqui.

Faith Journey: During my service year, I learn to rely more on God and believe that God is working through every prayer. I often feel woried about my family in Indonesia, my future job, and much more. However, whenever I felt worried, I prayed to God and surrendered all to Him. In addition, many testimonies from friends about how God works in their lives strengthens me too.

Viaje de la Fe: Durante mi año de servicio, aprendí a confiar mas en Dios y creo que el esta obrando a través de las oraciones. A menudo me siento preocupada por mi familia en Indonesia, mi futuro trabajo y mas cosas. Sin embargo, cada vez que me sentía preocupada, rezo y entrego todo a Dios. Además, muchos testimonios de otros amigos sobre como Dios trabaja en sus vidas me fortalecen.

career/professional Development: I am improving my teaching skills. This is an amazing experience to teach English to students who do not speak the same first language as me. So, I have to learn their language, phasaa Lao, better to be able to translate English to the Lao language. Yet, this situation gives me insight for my future career, perhaps teaching English to people who have a different first language.

Desarrollo Profesional/Profesional: Mejore mi habilidad de enseñanza. Esta es una experiencia increíble, enseñando ingles a estudiantes que no hablan el mismo idioma que yo. Así que tuve que aprender su idioma (phasaa lao) mas profundo para poder traducir el ingles al idioma lao. new perspectives: I proud of myself because I am brave enough to leave my comfort zone and come to Laos and live with a host family for almost a year. I wouldn’t have believed that I could pass this year well. People from different backgrounds of life who I met in this host country hve been really kind and generous. They are really helpful, and that makes my life easier in Laos. Although we have different cultures and language, we try to understand each other. However, no matter how far I go, I will always miss my home country.

First impression or Differences: The first impression is African people. Before I arrived, I used to wonder how I would touch, hug or be close with them because I felt scared of the color of their skin; then I prayed to God to help me. You know what happened? When I arrived, my host family welcome me by kissing and a hug (Mozambique culture). I was surprised that I felt fine when they did that. This is what God transformed for me, showing me their beauty, heart, friendliness and love for me. Additionally, it made me love them, just as I love my friends in Cambodia. Another thing, I am blessed to live in a Christian family and my host dad is a pastor and president of a Bible college. I know and understand well the life they live every day, which is under God’s grace.

Primera Impresión o Diferencias: La primera impresion fue el pueblo africano. Antes de llegar, pense en como los tocaria, abrazaria o intimaria con ellos porque me asustaba el color de su piel, pero le pedi a Dios que me ayudara. Sabes lo que paso, cuando llegue a Africa, mi familia anfitriona me da la bienvenida besandome y abrazandome (cultura de Mozambique) Me sorprendio que me sientiera bien cuando hicieron eso. Asi es como Dios me transform e incluyendo su hermoso corazon amable y muy amoroso. Ademas, me hizo amarlos como mis amigos en Camboya. En mi corazon, no puedo encontrar una diferencia entre el amor por ellos o mis amigos camboyanos. Tengo la bendicion de vivir con una familia Cristiana y mi padre anfitrion es un pastor y president del colegio biblico. Se y comprendo esa vida bajo la gracia de Dios por lo que hacen todos los dias.

memorable or Funny experience: The funniest experience was the time with young women from church who came to sleep over at my house. We played fun games and we laughed so much until my tears came out. I shared with them my testimony and experiences with God. Another

time, I went to visit my grandparents in Harare, the capital city, and joined two weddings on the same day. It was a great trip with my host family. I felt I was traveling with my own family. The last one, I enjoyed the children and youth at the center where I work so much; we would spend time together watching a movie, swimming, dancing, playing games and they would braid my hair in African style.

Experiencia Memorable o Divertida: La experiencia mas divertida fue cuando una joven de la iglesia vino a dormir a mi casa. Jugamos juegos divertidos y nos reimos tanto que me hizo llorar. Les comparti mi testimonio y experiencia con Dios. Otra cosa, fui a visitar a mis abuelos en Harare (ciudad capital) y asisti a dos bodas el mismo dia. Fue un gran viaje con la familia anfitriona, me senti como si estuviera viajando con mi propia familia. La ultima, realmente disfrute a los niños y jóvenes en el centro donde trabajo. Pasar tiempo viendo películas, nadar, bailar, jugar juegos y también tranzar mi cabello estilo africano.

Faith Journey: I am very thankful to God for giving me this time to grow my spiritual life. In fact, it was difficult for me to go to church with family where they speak only the local language, but there is a friend who always translates for me. It is also joyful when I can join English church in town once a month with friends. Additionally, I have my personal time with God everyday by reading the Bible, three chapters a day. I will finish the whole Bible during my assignment. I also try to memorize verses and read other books, which help my spiritual growth. I realize that I have grown in my spirit a lot.

Viaje de la Fe: Estoy muy agradecido a Dios por darme este tiempo para crecer espiritualmente. De hecho, es dificil para mi unirme a una iglesia con mi familia anfitriona porque hablan su idioma local, pero hay un amigo que siempre traduce para mi. De todos modos, es muy genial que me una a una iglesia inglesa en la ciudad una vez al mes con mis amigos. Tengo mi tiempo personal con Dios leyendo 3 capitulos en mi biblia todos los dias. career/professional Development: Well, I do like my job at the center very much and I found myself learning from this job because I never did this type of work before, but I try to do research when my supervisor asks me to do something new. I do databases in Access, report and manage in sewing room, and teaching sewing.

Desarrollo Profesional/Profesional: Me gusta tanto mi trabajo en el centro que me encontre aprendiendo de el. Nunca hice este tipo de trabajo antes, pero trato de investigar todo lo que puedo. Podria hacer la base de datos, informar y administstrar en la sala de costura (enseñar como coser).


new perspectives: I used to think that African people are not clean and smell bad because of their skin color, but after I lived with them, I found that they are very clean, more disciplined than me and smell nice. They are very friendly, kind, humble and have beautiful hearts.

Nuevas Perspectivas: Solia pensar que los africanus no estan limpios y huelen mal debido al color de su piel pero despues de vivir con ellos, note que son muy limpios, disciplinados y que huelen bien. Son muy amigables, amables, humildes y de corazon hermoso.

Future plans: Actually, I keep trying to apply for a scholarship for a master’s degree abroad in order to complete my dream while I arrive back in my home country and work in my new job. Additionally, I will take an exam to work in the Ministry of Taxation department. Lastly, but most important, I will keep helping youth with Faith and Fitness Ministry (Women’s ministry at my church) for sharing and encouragement about my experience with God when I was in Africa and do fund raising for supporting this ministry.

Primera Impresión o Diferencias: Bogota es una ciudad grande con una variedad de gente impresionante. Cuando llegamos a Bogota muchos nos decían que nos cuidemos, que no caminemos por la calle solos que no podíamos sacar nuestro celulares, osea que no demos “papaya” como dicen aquí. Sinceramente nos metieron mucho miedo y me preguntaba como es posible que la gente vive en temor! Como salen a las calles?! Cuando me traslade con una familia, ellos también me advertían de que no sacara el celular (incluso dentro del carro!) que no llevara mucho dinero, que no hable con desconocidos ni que les de ninguna información personal. Por meses vivi con ese temor a que algo me pasara. Y seguía preguntándome como es posible que la gente viva asi. Todo el tiempo viviendo en temor y desconfianza. Despues de un tiempo aprendi a como sobrellevar esa situación y aprendi a esconder mi teléfono y mi billetera debajo de la chaqueta, a ponerme la mochila enfrente mio como la mayoría lo hace. Esos habitos se vuelven tan normal y rutinarios que me di cuenta que esa es la única forma de vivir

“tranquilo” sin dar papaya, aun que me costo adaptarme a ese tipo de vida.

First impression or Differences: Bogota is a big city with a variety of awesome people. When I arrived, many told me to take care of myself, not to walk down the street alone or to get my cell phone out. I was really scared and wondered how it’s possible to live in such fear? How do people go out on the streets? When I moved in with my host family, they also warned me not to take my cell phone (even in the car!), that I not carry much money, talk to strangers or give them any personal information. For months, I lived with the fear of something happening to me. I kept asking myself how it’s possible for people to live like this, but after a while I learned how to cope with that situation and learned to hide my phone and wallet under my jacket and put my backback in front of me as most do. Those habits became such a normal routine that I realized it’s the only way to live calmly, without anything happening to me, although it cost me to adapt to this kind of life.

Experiencia Memorable o Divertida: El castellano es tan amplio que uno cree que por que hablamos el mismo idioma todas las palabras significan lo mismo, pero interesantemente no es asi. Eh escuchado y aprendido cantidad de palabras nuevas que algunas de ellas son groserías para el vocabulario boliviano. Por ejemplo la palabra coger en Colombia es tan común que mis oídos se han acostumbrado a escucharla tanto pero todavía me es difícil incluirla en mi vocabulario.

memorable or Funny experience: Spanish is so broad, one believes that because we speak the same language all words mean the same thing, but interestingly it’s not so. I have heard and learned a lot of new words and some of them are curses for the Bolivian vocabulary. For example, the word coger in Colombia is so common that my ears have become assustomed to hearing it, but it is still difficult for me to include it in my vocabulary.

Desarrollo Profesional/Profesional: He tenido la oportunidad de ejercer un poco las practicas como trabajadora social. Dando talleres a educadoras, padres de familia, niños/as y jóvenes. Haciendo visitas domiciliarias, consejería y supervisando a practicantes de trabajo social. Estoy muy agradecida por todas las oportunidades que eh tenido en las dos organizaciones de servicio.

career/professional Development: I had the opportunity to practice a bit as a social worker – giving workshops to educators, parents, children and young people, making home visits, counseling and supervising social work practitioners. I am very grateful for all the opportunities I have had in the two service organizations.

First impression or Differences: 1) Language barriers: Korea is a monoculture country and speaks only one language. Very few people speak English, so it was hard for me to communicate well with both community members and students. 2) Food: Though rice and noodles were there, almost every food was new and spicy to me. 3) I was really impressed by the level of development in the country and also the peace the country is currently enjoying despite the former wars and continued threats from North Korea.

Primera Impresión o Diferencias: Barreras lingüísticas: Corea es un pais monocultivo y habla un solo idioma. Muy pocas personas hablan ingles, por lo que me fue dificil comunicarme bien con los miembros de la comunidad y con los estudiantes. La comida, aunque habia arroz y fideos casi todos los alimentos eran nuevos y picantes para mi. Me impresiono mucho el nivel de Desarrollo en este pais y tambien la paz que disfrutan actualmente a pesar de las guerras anteriores y las amenazas continuas de Corea del Norte.

memorable or Funny experience: 1) Playing soccer with the students every week. 2) Being marginalized (racism) because of being an African; probably it was their first time to stay and work together with someone from Zambia (a black person).

Experiencia Memorable o Divertida: Jugando futbol con los estudiantes cada semana. Ser marginados por ser un africano (racism), probablemente es la primera vez que se quedan y trabajan con alguien de Zambia (persona de raza negra).

Faith Journey: I really had some struggles with the way of worship with the community fellowships we have had every Sunday; and they never allowed me to go to any other nearby church because this would affect the attendance for Sunday worship.

Viaje de la Fe: Realmente tuve algunas dificultades con la forma de adorar en las comunidades que teniamos todos los dias y los domingos y nunca me permitieron ir a ninguna otra iglesia cercana porque esto afercaria la asistencia para la adoracion del domingo.

First impression or Differences: My first impression when I reached Nepal was glimpses of the mountain. Another crazy thing is the electrical and telephone wires. They are everywhere! A tangled mess of wire, going this way and that, hang from poles, sometimes near to the ground. How they fix ones that are broken is beyond me. The kids here are the cutest little people you’ve ever seen. Their smiling, sweet faces melt my heart. I love how curious they are, too. They’ll walk right over to me, smile and shyly say Namaste with their hands in a prayer-like position.

Primera Impresión o Diferencias: Mi primera impresion cuando llegue a Nepal fue una vista de las montañas. Otra cosa eran los cables eléctricos y telefónicos, están en todas partes! Un lio de cables enredados, colgando de postes, a veces cerca del suelo. Como es posible arreglar los que están rotos estamas allá de mi. Los niños aquí son las personas mas lindas que has visto. Sus sonrisas y dulces caritas derriten mi corazón. Me encanta lo curiosos que son, caminaran hacia mi, sonríen y tristemente dirán “Namaste” con sus manos en una posición de oración.

memorable or Funny experience: My memorable experience was when I went trekking to Poon Hill with my two friends (SALTers). It was my first trekking experience. Before trekking, I was very nervous, and I


was wondering how I’d able to do it. But as we started trekking, I found it comfortable and easy. A second memorable day was when we went for a camel ride in Jaisalmer where our Asia retreat was held. I was a little bit scared of how the ride was going to be. Later on, I realized that it’s so much fun. It was completely amazing – a big “Well done!” for our camel we called “Pappu.” The “camel runner” who was going next to us was an absolutely amazing person. We were laughing and calling him “Mr Colgate” because of his complete lack of teeth and he was smiling all the time. It was 40 minutes of fun. I had a very positive experience in the Thar desert.

Experiencia Memorable o Divertida: Mi experiencia memorable fue cuando fui de excursion por primera vez a Poon Hill con mis amigos (SALTers). Antes de la caminata, estaba nervioso y no sabia como podria hacerlo. Pero cuando empezamos encontre que era facil. El Segundo dia memorable fue cuando fuimos a dar un paseo en camello en Jaislmer, donde se llevo a cabo nuestro retiro en Asia. Tenia un poco de miedo de como iba a ser el viaje. Mas tarde me doy cuenta de que es muy divertido. Fue compeltamente incredible, bien hecho por nuestro camello que llamamos”Pappu”. El “corredor de camellos” que iba a nuestro lado era una persona absolutamente increible. Nos estabamos riendo de el y lo llamamos Sr. Colgate debido a la falta total de dientes y a el sonriendo todo el tiempo. Fueron 40 minutos de diversion. Tuve una experiencia muy positive en el desierto de Thar.

Faith Journey: My faith has increased more. I learned to depend on God. I always find new strength, wisdom and courage to face my daily challenges. At my work place we start each day with devotions, which is helping me to grow spiritually. Now, I am also part of the church choir, which has taught me new songs in Nepali. I have grown a lot in my spiritual life, and I continue to thank God for this experience. I have also learned to enjoy his love in every little thing that surrounds me. I learned to depend on God, more than depending on people. God makes me brave. He enables me to do things that I never thought I could do.

Viaje de la Fe: Mi fe ha aumentado mas y aprendi a depender de Dios. Siempre encuentro nuevas fuerzas, sabiduria y valos para enfrentar mis desafios diarios. En mi lugar de trabajo comenzamos cada dia con devocion, lo que me ayuda a crecer espitirualmente. Ahora, Tambien forme parte de coro de la iglesia que me enseño nuevas canciones en nepali. He crecido mucho en mi vida espiritual y sigo agradeciendo a Dios por esta experiencia. Tambien he aprendido a disfurtar de su amor en cada pequeña cosa que me rodea. Aprendi a depender de Dios, mas que de las personas. Dios me hace valiente, el me permite hacer cosas que nunca pense que podria hacer.

career/professional Development: Working as a Finance Assistant I am able to grasp basic things of accounts and management. This will surely help me throughout my

career. I have also been able to apply my knowledge in Excel, Word and learnt formal ways of communication through emails.

Desarrollo Profesional/Profesional: Trabajando como asistente financiero, soy capaz de comprender cosas basicas de contabilidad y asministacion que me ayudaria a traves de mi Carrera. Tambien he podido aplicas mis conocimientos en Excel, Word y aprendi formas formales de comunicacion a traves de correos electronicos.

new perspectives: Faith gives us an inner strength and a sense of balance in life. The only way to do great work is to do what we do. If we haven’t found it yet, keep looking. I feel more confident and built more self-confidence, self-belief, and self-assurance. I have been able to learn different cultural activities. The culture made me think that this world is really big. I have learned to be vulnerable. Now, I am more mature with the different skills acquired during my assignment.

Nuevas Perspectivas: La fe nos da una fuerza interior y un sentido de equilibrio en la vida. La unica forma de hacer un gran trabajo es con lo que hacemos. Si aun no lo hemos encontrado, sigue buscando. Me siento mas confiado y constuyo mas confianza, seguridad y he podido aprender diferentes actividades culturales. La cultura me hizo pensar que este mundo es realmente grande. He aprendido a ser vulnerable. Ahora, estoy mas maduro con las diferentes habilidades adquiridas durante mi tarea.

Future plans: My future plans are to continue studying for a Master of Social Work. I would like to have a chance to continue with MCC as a service worker in the future. I also want to share my experience during my serving time in Nepal and tell people about MCC and the exchange program.

Planes Futuros: Mis planes futuros son seguir estudiando y obtener una maestria en trabajo social. Me gustaria tener la opotrunidad de continuar con CCM como trabajador de servicios en el futuro. Tambien quiero compartir mi experiencia durante mi tiempo de servicio en Nepal y contarles sobre CCM y el programa de intercambio.

Primera Impresión o Diferencias: En Honduras no solemos comer tanto pescado y arroz y en Ecuador se come eso en grandes cantidades.


First impression or Differences: In Honduras we do not eat so much fish and rice, but in Ecuador we eat that in large quantities.

Experiencia Memorable o Divertida: Algunos niños me llaman tia Honduras y una vez estábamos en la hora de la comida y estaba dándole de comer a un bebe y vigilando a los demás niños, en ese momento el bebe se hizo popo y no me di cuenta me levanto a ponerle agua en su vasito y cuando me siento me doy cuenta q el bebe había hecho popo en la silla y había comido un poquito de su propio popo jaja.

memorable or Funny experience: Some children call me Auntie Honduras. One time during lunch, I was feeding a baby and watching the other children and didn’t notice that the baby had pooped itself. I got up to put water in his cup and when I came back, I saw that there was poop on the chair and he had eaten a little bit of it. Ha-ha.

Viaje de la Fe: Mi relación con Dios cada vez va en aumento, Me ha despertado las ganas de escribir sobre él y sobre mi tiempo aquí en Ecuador, me gusta la chica fuerte que Dios está formando, creí que era débil ahora me doy cuenta que soy más fuerte y capaz de lo que yo creía sin duda Dios está obrando muy fuerte en mí en mi vida.

Faith Journey: My relationship with God is becoming better. It gives me a desire to write about him and my time in Ecuador. I like the strong girl God has formed me into. I thought that I was weak and fragile and now I know that I am strong and capable. Without a doubt God is working in my life.

Desarrollo Profesional/Profesional: Eh aprendido a manejar chicos con depresiones, a manejar la soledad, el estrés, a trabajar con niños con diferentes personalidades y cómo hacer que ellos tengan más confianza en ellos y sobre todo eh podido hablarles de Dios y como Dios puede cambiar sus vidas.

career/professional Development: I have learned to handle children with depression, to manage loneliness, stress, work with children who have different personalities and how to make them more confident in themselves. Above all, I have been able to share the Gospel with them and how God can change their lives.

Nuevas Perspectivas: Poder seguir trabajando con niños y crecer cada día más en Dios.

new perspectives: To be able to continue working with children and to grow every day closer to God.

Planes Futuros: Seguir siendo misionera.

Future plans: Continue being a missionary.

Khammoun Xayalath (Laos)Indomenno/GITJDorang, Jepara, Central Java, Indonesia

First impression or Differences: The first impression was the warm welcoming I received to Indonesia, especially by my host family. There are many differences from my home country, such as the language, the majority religion of Muslim, the traffic (here people drive on the left side) and the food; most of Indonesia’s foods (in Java Island) are oily and sweet.

Primera Impresión o Diferencias: Mi primera impresion es una calida bienvenida a Indonesia, especialmente de parte de mi familia anfitriona. Hay muchas diferencias con respect a mi pais de origen, como el Idioma cual seria Indonesio. La mayoria de la religion es musulmana. El trafico, la gente conduce por el lado izquierdo y la mayoria de los alimentos indonesios (isla de Java) son aceitosos y dulces, mas que las comidas en mi pais.

memorable or Funny experience: My host mom knocked on my room door on my birthday, and she gave me a gift with a sweet kiss. And she made a warm drink for me when I was sick. My host brother and little sister always fight when they play together, then my little sister cries. So sometimes I like to say that she likes to bernyanyi, which means sing in English. Sometimes my host little sister asks me to join her dancing; she likes dancing and she does it very well. I’ll miss my host family a lot.

Experiencia Memorable o Divertida: En mi cumpleaños, mi madre anfitriona golpeo mi habitacion y me dio un regalo con un beso dulce. Ella también me hizo una bebida caliente cuando estaba enfermo. Mi hermanito anfitrión y su hermanita siempre pelean cuando juegan juntos, y luego mi hermanita llora. Entonces, me gusta decir que a ella le gusta “bernyanyi” que significa “cantar.” A veces mi pequeña hermanita anfitriona me pide que la acompañe a bailar, a ella le gusta bailar y lo hace muy bien. Extrañare mucho a mi familia anfitriona.

Faith Journey: I can say that the Mennonite church is quite different from the church that I serve in Laos. The way they sing the songs and pray are a little different. Due to the language, I couldn’t understand much in the service at church. However, I attend all the church services and the youth fellowship as well. And I keep my spiritual growth by reading the Bible, listening to Christian music and reading encouraging words from others.

Viaje de la Fe: Puedo decir que la iglesia menonita es bastante diferente a la iglesia en Laos. La forma en que cantan y rezan es una pequeña diferencia y debido al lenguaje, no puedo entender mucho del servicio en la iglesia. Sin embargo, me uno a todos los servicios de la iglesia y la comunidad de jóvenes también. Al leer


la Biblia, escuchar música cristiana y leer palabras de aliento crezco espiritualmente.

career/professional Development: Learning a new language will help me use any of my skills for others. As I’ve learned the Indonesia language, I can communicate with children in my village. Most of them are Muslim and we became good friends. People here know that I’m a Christian and I can be good friend with them, which is peacebuilding. The most valuable skill or experience that I’ve learned is teaching English for the primary school, which I can continue when I go back to Laos.

Desarrollo Profesional/Profesional: Aprender un nuevo idioma me ayuda a usar algunos de mis habilidades con otros como aprender el idioma indonesio me permite comunicarme con los niños de mi pueblo. La mayoria de ellos son musulmanes y nos hacemos buenos amigos. La gente aqui sabe que soy Cristiano y puedo ser amigos con ellos, lo cual es la construccion de la paz. La mayoria de las habilidades o experiencia que he aprendido es sobre la enseñanza de inglés para la escuela primaria, que puedo seguir haciendo cuando vuelco a Laos.

new perspectives: Indonesia and Laos have some things similar in our culture and communities because we are in South East Asia. One thing I can see is that Indonesia is good at developing even through they’ve faced many of natural disasters, and also have conflict between religions (in some places); but they still keep developing their country quite well. In my opinion I think developing is started in the family, both physically and mentality, to live with others in peace. Therefore, we can help each other to develop ourselves and our country. My new perspective might be the understanding that peacebuilding is very important.

Nuevas Perspectivas: Indonesia y Laos tienen ciertas similitudes en la cultura y las comunidades porque ambos somos asiaticos del sudeste. Algo que puedo ver es que Indonesia es bueno en el Desarrollo a pesar de que han enfrentado a muchos desastres naturales, y tambien tener conflictos entre las religiones (en algunos lugares). En mi opinion, creo que el Desarrollo comienza dentro de la familia, tanto fisico como mental, para vivir con otros en paz. Por eso podemos ayudarnos mutuamente a desarrollarnos a nosotros mismos y a nuestro pais. Mis nuevas perspectivas son entender que la construccion de paz es muy importante.

Future plans: When I go back to my home country, I want to work in education, such as teaching or supporting children in any skill that I can, to help them to develop themselves for their future.

Planes Futuros: Cuando regrese a casa, quiero trabajar en la educacion, enseñar y apoyar a los niños con todo lo que puedo para ayudarlos a desarrollarse para su futuro.

Malin Yem (Cambodia)Finance & Capacity-building Assistant, MCC HaitiPort-au-Prince, Haiti

First impression or Differences: Jet lag and new foods were problems in the first month. I was scared to be here for 11 months, but I’m still here in Haiti. Haitians greet people by touching one or both cheeks, while Cambodians greet with hands together; that more than surprised me.

Primera Impresión o Diferencias: Tuve descompensacion horaria y problema de alimentos nuevos durante el primer mes. Tenia miedo de estar aqui por 11 meses, pero finalmente estoy aqui en Haiti hasta ahora. Me sorprendio mucho como las personas haitianas se saludan con una o ambas mejillas tocandose cada una y los camboyanos se saludan.

memorable or Funny experience: First time buying things at the groceries, I used the wrong Creole words:

Me: Please give me 50 Guard (6 cents) of avocados (that’s what I meant but, what I said exactly was, please give me 50 avocados).Lady: Are you sure, 50 avocados?Me: Yes,Lady: No, I don’t have avocados for you.Me: I wonder, “I see avocados in her basket. Why does she say she doesn’t have any?” Then my friend who can speak Creole arrived.My Friend: What’s up Malin? After I told her everything, we all laughed so much, including the lady.

Experiencia Memorable o Divertida: La primera vez que compre algo en el supermercado, use palabras criollas equivocadas,Yo: Dije, por favor dame 50 Guardias (6 centados) de aguacates, pero en realidad significa que por favor, fame 50 aguacates.Señora: Estas Seguro de los 50 aguacates?Yo: SiSeñora: No, no tengo aguacates para ti Yo: Me pregunto: “vi aguacates en su canasta. Por que ella dijo que no tenia? Y luego llego mi amiga que habla criollo. Amiga: Que paso, Malin? Despues de que le conte todo, todos nos reimos mucho, incluso la dama.

Faith Journey: The first two months here I didn’t have a specific job to do, and I asked God, why am I here? But after four months here I have work to do, I love my job, I love people here, I love everything here, and I thank God that he put me here in Haiti. I appreciate when my job can affect people here. I believed that God answered my request since I was in Cambodia and asked him to use me to help people in need.


Viaje de la Fe: Le pregunte a Dios por que estoy aqui? Los primersos dos meses aqui no tuve un trabajo especifico que hacer, pero luego de 4 meses aqui tengo trabajo y lo amo, tambien amo a la gente y todo lo demas, doy gracias a Dios por haberme puesto aqui en Haiti. Apreciare cuando mi trabajo aqui termine, puede afectar a las personas aqui. Creo que Dios respondio a mi oracion desde que estaba en Camboya y le pedi que me usara para ayudar a las personas en necesidad.

career/professional Development: Thankfully I’m here as Finance and Capacity-building assistant, which is my real skill. Working here improved my technical skills, finance skills and other professional skills such writing a Financial Manual, creating paper work for internal control, installing and updating QuickBooks for a new organization and helping finance staff to improve managing funding.

Desarrollo Profesional/Profesional: Afortunadamente, estoy aqui como asistente de finanzas y Desarrollo de capacidades, que es mi verdadera habilidad. Trabajando aqui mejoro mi trabajo tecnico, financiero como otro trabajo profesional, redaccion del manual financiero,

creacion de papel para el control interno, instacalcion y actualizacion “Quickbooks” para la nueva organizacion y ayudar al personal de Finanzas a mejorar la forma de administrar los fondos.

new perspectives: What is true for me is not always true for me when I’m on different stages. Working with cross culture, multi-languages and different lifestyles taught me be flexible on the stage that I am on.

Nuevas Perspectivas: Lo que es cierto para mi no siempre lo es, segun la etapa en la que me encuentre. Trabajar con la cultura cruzada, los multiples idiomas y los diferentes estilos de vida me enseño a ser flexible.

Future plans: Working for a non-profit organization based on my skills to join hands to help vulnerable people in my home country of Cambodia and contribute with church either with time or heart.

Planes Futuros: Trabajar para una organizacion sin fines de lucro basada en mi habilidad para unir mi mano para ayudar a las personas vulnerables en mi pais de origen (Camboya) y contribuir a la iglesia como sea posible.
