KU Community

YUHANFROM: CHINA

MAJOR: GEOGRAPHY

“I like to hang out on my floor and teach the students Chinese. I especially like hanging out with my friend, Nic, and I even taught him how to say ‘Thank you’ and ‘Hello’ and also ‘If you work you will succeed’ in Chinese.”

ABDULAZIZFROM: UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

MAJOR: PETROLEUM ENGINEERING

“I like my teachers, especially my English professor. She once sent me an email saying that I was one of the top students in her class, and if I worked really hard I could be top of the class. I felt really good that she sent me that email, and it showed me that she cared. It also motivated me to work harder.”

JINNYFROM: CHINA

MAJOR: BUSINESS

“I wanted to go to KU because I knew that America is a country of immigrants and so people are accepting of different cultures there. Studying here at KU, American people treat me nicely, and I think it’s because KU has many international students.”

SAHARSHFROM: INDIA

MAJOR: COMPUTER SCIENCE

“This is my first time visiting America, so arriving here was kind of a cultural shock. Luckily, I found a lot of very friendly people. Close to bigger cities like Kansas City, Lawrence is a small, friendly town. I’ve also had a lot of fun going to KU basketball games. The student section is so loud because we all cheer the KU chants together, and of course KU almost always wins, too!”

YOUR HOME AT KU While the availability of residence halls may vary from year to year, on-campus housing will be assigned based on your preference and availability. These residences offer excellent facilities and trained live-in staff, which help you thrive academically and participate in the true university experience. On-campus housing provides an “academic service center,” complete with satellite campus offices providing tutoring, advising, career counseling and information technology (IT) services.

TIER 1: LUXURY LIVING These new residence halls offer two- or four-person suites with shared or private bathrooms. There are also living rooms on each floor. The new halls provide a mix of public and private areas with opportunities for group collaboration and study. They opened in 2015 and 2017.

Live & DineFor many students, the first year in college is a particularly exciting one, in large part because of the residential experience. Living in the residence halls builds a healthy community through various activities, communal study spaces and shared dining. Students who live on campus during their first year are statistically proven to be more likely to complete their degree on time. Undergraduate Accelerator students are required to live on campus, which helps them succeed in the classroom but also fully integrates them into the campus community and social network.
