Welcome WeekTo help you settle in, we holda special Welcome Week inSeptember (at the beginning ofthe academic year). Follow your interestsWe offer a wide rangeof undergraduate honoursdegrees, both single and jointhonours – over 400 in total (seep45). Within most programmes,you are able to choose from avariety of modules; this allowsyou to broaden your experienceby studying topics outside yourmain subject area. Many studentscan choose to specialise in thelater stages of their course,tailoring it to their interests. Ourtaught and research postgraduateprogrammes reflect the researchinterests of our academic staff(see p49).

As well as undergraduate andpostgraduate programmes, weoffer foundation programmes forthose who need to improve theirEnglish language or study skills(see pp42-44). It is also possibleto study at Kent for a year or asemester (see p47).

Kent Extra is a rangeof activities that canbroaden your academicand cultural developmentand further enhance yourcareer prospects.

You can do this through studypathways which expand yourdegree programme; spendinga year abroad or on a workplacement; attending one of oursummer schools; volunteering;or taking a Study Plus course (seelist of recent courses, right). Someof the options are assessed and,if your degree programme allows,may contribute to your degree.Others are extra-curricular andnot assessed.

Our Universityaccommodation allowsyou to make an easytransition to living inthe UK – you don’t haveto worry about findingsomewhere to live andall of your basic billsare included in the rent.

STUDENT LIFE IN CANTERBURY

Canterbury is a beautifuland historic city, lessthan an hour fromLondon. It has a warmand friendly atmosphereand each year studentsfrom around the worldfall in love with itscosmopolitan charm.

As you would expect from a citywith nearly 40,000 students, there’sa rich social life. In fact, accordingto a 2013 report from Experian,Canterbury is the UK’s third mostvibrant city. The city has museums,art galleries, clubs, bars,restaurants, sports facilities,two cinemas and a theatre.

Campus lifeCampus life is ideal for studentsas everything is in one place.Our Canterbury campus is set in300 acres of beautiful parklandoverlooking the historic Cathedral,which is the venue for ourgraduation ceremonies. This givesyou the best of both worlds: greenspaces on campus, yet only a25-minute walk from the city centre.A frequent bus service runsbetween campus and the city.

A huge bonus for our students ishow close Canterbury is to London– the high-speed train servicetakes less than an hour. At Kent, we set our Englishlanguage requirements at a levelthat meets both the academicneeds of the University and theminimum requirements for a Tier 4(General) student visa. The SELTsaccepted at Kent are outlinedbelow.

When you apply for a foundationprogramme, you specify thedegree you want to progress to.Passing your foundation year ata sufficient level guarantees youentry on to your chosen degree.

Tuition feesThe standard international(non-EU) and EU fees for full-timestudents starting in the academicyear 2017/18 are listed on p53 andbelow. The fees quoted cover oneacademic year of study.

In light of the recent UK EUreferendum vote, the University

has agreed that for 2017, EUstudents who satisfy nationality andresidency criteria will be classifiedas UK/EU (Home) fee paying.

Some courses, particularlypostgraduate, charge more thanthe standard fee. For the latestdetails on fees, see www.kent.ac.uk/finance-student/fees

Please note: fees will increase yearon year by no more than the retailprice index (RPI) +3% in eachacademic year of study, exceptwhere regulated. Where

Paying your feesTuition fees are charged for eachyear of study and are due at thestart of the academic year. Someinternational students may berequired to pay a proportion oftheir tuition fees before their arrivalat Kent. An instalment plan isavailable but, if you pay the fullyear’s tuition fee before 31 August,you are granted an early paymentdiscount of 2%.

Undergraduate students who payfor their entire degree (three or fouryears of tuition fees) by 31 Augusthave the fees frozen at the startof the course and receive a 5%discount on the total cost.
