U-M FELLOWSHIPS Deadline
Rackham International Student Fellowship
The Rackham International Student Fellowship assists outstanding
international students, particularly those who may be ineligible for other kinds
of support because of citizenship.

Chia-Lun Lo Fellowship
The Chia-Lun Lo Fellowship assists outstanding students in Rackham
programs who have earned a previous degree from a university in Taiwan.

Center for the Education of Women Scholarship Program
The CEW Scholarship Program for returning women students was established
in 1970 to honor the academic performance and potential of women whose
education has been interrupted and to commemorate the one hundredth
anniversary of the admission of women to the University of Michigan.

Barbour Scholarship
The Barbour Scholarships were endowed at the University of Michigan in 1917
by Levi Lewis Barbour for women of the highest academic and professional
caliber from the area formerly known as the Orient (encompassing the lands
extending from Turkey in the west to Japan and the Philippines in the east) to
study modern science, medicine, mathematics and other academic disciplines
and professions critical to the development of their native lands.

IIIF
The International Institute Individual Fellowships are designed to support
University of Michigan students, regardless of citizenship, who are enrolled in
a degree program and wish to participate in internships or conduct research
abroad. Award amounts are up to $5,000. There is no preference for particular
fields of study and the International Institute aims to fund a diverse array of
students and projects.

Robin Wright Graduate Fellowship The Center for the Education of Women announces the Robin Wright Graduate Fellowship with a grant of up to $4,000. The fund will support research by a graduate student from the Islamic World or Africa matriculating in the Rackham Graduate School.

International Fellowships: Awards for full-time graduate or postgraduate

Welcomes proposals from any of the natural and social sciences, and the
humanities that promise to increase understanding of the causes,
manifestations, and control of violence, aggression, and dominance.

The program is specifically designed to help scholars from developing
countries in Asia, Africa, Middle and South America, and Eastern Europe.

Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program
Brings accomplished mid-career professionals from designated countries of
Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, the Middle East, and Eurasia to the
U.S. for a year of study and related professional experiences. Eligibility criteria:
undergraduate degree, 5 years of professional experience, demonstrated
leadership qualities and record of public service, fluency in English.

Small research grants for graduate students in science engineering and science
and technology.

Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation
Fellowships designed to encourage original and significant study of ethical or
religious values and implications in all fields of the humanities and social
sciences.

DOE Office of Science Graduate Student Research (SCGSR) program
The SCGSR program supports supplemental awards to outstanding U.S.
graduate students to conduct part of their graduate thesis research at a DOE
national laboratory in collaboration with a DOE laboratory scientist for a
period of 3 to 12 consecutive months—with the goal of preparing graduate
students for scientific and technical careers critically important to the DOE
Office of Science mission.

The International Peace Scholarship Fund is a program which provides grants-
in-aid for selected women from other countries for graduate study in the
United States and Canada.
Josephine de Karman Fellowships
Special consideration will be given to applicants in the humanities and those
who have completed qualifying examinations for the doctoral degree. Study
must be carried out and all funds expended only in the U.S.

Roothbert Fund, Inc.
Small grants for those who can satisfy high scholastic requirements and are
considering teaching as a vocation, whose daily actions appear to be prompted
by spiritual motives. Must be currently in the U.S. when applying.

Phi Delta Kappa Graduate Fellowships
This program is for Phi Delta Kappa members only. Applicants must be
pursuing a graduate or doctoral degree program in educational leadership and
must be full-time students during the year of tuition and fee awards.

Aga Khan Foundation
Provides a limited number of scholarships each year for postgraduate studies
to outstanding students from developing countries who have no other means
of financing their studies. Countries include Bangladesh, India, Pakistan,
Tajikistan, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Madagascar, Syria, Iran. Note: The
Foundation gives priority to requests for master's level courses.

Joint Japan/World Bank Scholarships
Regular JJ/WBGSP Scholarships: Master’s-level graduate scholarships for
studies in economic and social development. Applicants must be citizens of

Alpha Delta Kappa Foundation
In the past two years alone, Alpha Delta Kappa members have given nearly 12 million
dollars in monetary and other gifts, nearly 2 million dollars in scholarships and have
provided more than 2 million hours of volunteer service to their
communities. Opportunities for professional and personal networking abound in Alpha
Delta Kappa. From state/provincial/national conventions and regional conferences every
even-numbered year to International conventions every odd-numbered year, talented
women educators gather to share ideas, fellowship, recognition and support.
American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS)

Inter-American Foundation (IAF)
Funds self-help efforts of grassroots groups to improve living conditions of the
disadvantaged and excluded, enhance their capacity for decision-making and self-
governance, and develop partnerships with the public sector, business and civil society.
Institute of International Education
IIE manages undergraduate and graduate level scholarships at accredited academic
institutions throughout the world. IIE implements many of the world’s most prestigious
scholarship programs and manages global scholarships through our network of domestic
and international offices.
International Federation of University Women (IFUW)
Limited number of fellowships and grants to women graduates for short graduate and
post-graduate study, research and training projects. Competitions are normally held every
two years.
International Reading Association
Various research grants/awards in the area of reading literacy learning disabilities,
language arts.
Fulbright Foreign Student Program
Funding for non-U.S. students who attend graduate programs in the U.S. Program
availability, application requirements and procedures differ for each country; students
must apply from home. Fulbright Commissions and U.S. embassies help candidates with
applications.
John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation
The Foundation makes grants through four programs in such areas as human and
community development and global security and sustainability. Accepts applications

Organization of American States
The Agency provides several hundred fellowships for graduate studies and research, and
awards for specialized, short-term training at educational institutions and training centers
in OAS Member and Observer States.
PEO Program for Continuing Education (PCE)
The P.E.O. Program for Continuing Education, established in 1973, is a need based grant
program providing one-time financial assistance to women whose education has been
interrupted and who find it necessary to return to school to complete a degree or
certification that improves their marketable skills for employment to support themselves
and/or their families.

Population Council
Awards to doctoral students conducting dissertation research and postdoctoral research on

Rockefeller Foundation
Several grants available, organized by themes, cross-theme, Regional Programs and Special
Programs (which includes Global Philanthropy, Next Generation Leadership, Population
and the Cairo Agenda, Communication for Social Change and Other Grants). Requirements

Rotary Foundation Global Scholarship Grants for Development
The Rotary Foundation offers scholarship funding through the Rotary Foundation Global
Grant scholarships. The scholarship funds graduate-level coursework or research for one to
four academic years. Rotary Foundation Global Grants can be used to fund scholarships
with sustainable, high-impact outcomes in one of Rotary’s six areas of focus: Peace and
conflict prevention/resolution, Disease prevention and treatment, Water and sanitation,
Maternal and child health, Basic education and literacy, and Economic and community
development.
Social Science Research Council
Fellowship and grant programs on a wide range of topics, across many different career
stages. Most support goes to pre-dissertation, dissertation, and postdoctoral fellowships,
offered through annual competitions.
Soros Foundation Network
Autonomous institutions established in particular countries or regions to initiate and

Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues
