British Journal of Photography’s International Photography Award is one of the world’s leading showcases for new photographic talent. Now in its 10th year, the IPA has established itself as an important springboard for future voices in photography, offering winners the chance to have their work printed and framed by one of Europe’s leading pro labs, and exhibited for two weeks at TJ Boulting, an innovative gallery in the heart of Fitzrovia, London. Last year’s awards saw more high quality entries than ever before, with close to 2,000 submissions from 62 countries around the world. The dedicated website received over 150,000 visitors, and the winners London exhibition proved so popular it was extended by the gallery from two to six weeks. In particular, the series winner Dominic Hawgood, received international acclaim and PR. The elite judging panel, drawn from the worlds of photography, art and media, provides an opportunity for entrants to get their work in front of the most influential people in the industry. This year’s panel includes: Kate Bush, head of photography at Media Space within The Science Museum, London Sean O’Hagan, photography critic at The Guardian and The Observer Emily Graham, culture & education manager at Magnum Photos Bruno Ceschel, founder of Self Publish, Be Happy and photobook expert Hannah Watson, director of Trolley Books and TJ Boulting Gallery in London Ewen Spencer, award-winning photographer and filmmaker James Reid, director of photography at Wallpaper* magazine Photographers may enter projects on any topic, with two categories to choose from: one awarding the best series of images, and the other the best single image. As with previous editions of the awards, IPA 2016 will have no theme, allowing for complete autonomy and creativity.
