None of us doubted it for a m om ent. I will not a tte m p t to re te ll h is m any, m a n y h a ir-ra is in g e x p e ri­en ces a s a c ra sh pilot w hile flying w ith th e F ly in g T ig e rs A ir C ircus, ju s t a f te r W orld W ar II. T he flight w as ab o u t two hours in le n g th an d w e w ere given in stru ctio n in H igh A ltitude flight ch aracteristics, plus v ery low a ltitu d e speed ru n along th e beach of S alton Sea a t 430 M PH, 100 fee t in d icated above sea level, to give us the tru e sensation of speed in re la tio n to th e ground.

T hen back to N orth Island fc r p ra c ­tice landings. A lot of the flight w as m ad e on a c tu a l in stru m en ts, w hich w e fe lt w as especially good tra in in g , an d since the GCA w as off a t th e tim e we m ade a ra d a r ap p ro ach .
