International Mathematics Wizard Challenge (IMWiC 2015) August 9-12, 2015 Hongkong INFORMATION ABOUT THE CONTEST The International Mathematics Wizard Challenge (IMWiC) Coordinating Council, composed of institutions, associations and individuals, is committed to promote mathematics excellence around the world through mathematics competition. Adhering to the principle of “Mathematics Has No Border”, the IMWiC Coordinating Council remains steadfast in its conviction to bring mathematics beyond the edge of mathematical possibilities by engaging students across the globe. The IMWiC pursues the promotion of excellence in mathematics education and establishes a venue for the cooperation and communication among nations. Geared towards the uplifting of the interests of teenagers in mathematics, IMWiC also advocates the understanding of cultural diversities and strengthens the friendship and solidarity among the participants. A. Objectives: 1. Engage students to further their knowledge and awareness of mathematics through competition; 2. Provide opportunities to students to develop their reasoning ability and creative thinking skill to solve challenging problems in mathematics; 3. Promote excellence in mathematics for students to pursue math-related careers; 4. Develop leadership and initiative through the inculcation of sense of responsibility and discipline; and 5. Forge a spirit of brotherhood and cooperation among participants for better understanding and respect of cultural diversity. B. Organizer: IMWiC Coordinating Council and FUJIAN Oversea Corporation C. INFORMATION ABOUT THE CONTEST The International Mathematics Wizard Challenge (IMWiC) Coordinating Council, composed of institutions, associations and individuals, is committed to promote mathematics excellence around the world through mathematics competition. Junior Secondary Three - Relations and Functions, Radicals and Complex Numbers, Quadratic Equations

and Functions, More Equations and Inequalities, Problem Solving Strategies, Similarity, Geometry of Circle, Mensuration, Data Handling, Recreational Math.

H. Registration Fee: US$50.00 I. Deadline of Registration: 5pm of 5 June 2015 J. Awarding Scheme:

Medals: Approximately two-thirds of the contestants will receive Individual Awards, in the form of Gold, Silver and

Bronze Medals as well as merit certificates, approximately in the ratio of 1 : 2 : 3 : 4 Trophies: Top Scorer, that is, the top performing participant per grade/year level will be awarded with a TROPHY.

Trophies are only awarded if there are 50 or more participants in their respective grade/year level. Certificates: All participants will receive an IMWiC 2015 certificate of participation.

K. Registration Procedure:

Each country must inform the organizer the number of participants it intends to send for the contest on or before the 5th June 2015. Send an Email to express your intention to participate at [email protected]

L. Awarding Program Schedule: 11 August 2015

1:30 pm to 3:00 pm, for Primary 1 to Primary 4 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm for Primary 5 to Junior Secondary 3

M. Awarding Program Venue: Hong Kong Sam Yuk Education Center (Hong Kong Adventist Academy) N. Participants are to shoulder their travel expenses from their country of origin to Hong Kong, including the

following expenses: Visa fee, hotel accommodation, food, transportation (airport-hotel-contest venue and vice versa) and sightseeing activities.

O. Official language will be ENGLISH and CHINESE

P. Participating countries wishing to have the contest problems to be in their respective language must translate on their own. Team leaders are required to arrive on the 9th of August and must not stay with their team members. They can only join their team after the contest.
