OverviewILA Internships are an exciting opportunity for young professionals! As an ILA intern you will be able to network with professionals and emerging artists from around the globe in beautiful Viterbo, Italy. Internationally known and acclaimed artists, musicians, and directors an integral part of Italy’s stellar opera festival! ILA produces 7 fully staged operas with orchestra, as well as multiple recitals, master classes, choral programs and scene operas.

PROGRAM DATES: The program begins July 10 and ends August 1st, 2007. Interns need to arrive in the Rome airport the morning of July 10th .

HOUSING, MEALS & TRANSPORTATION: Academy full tuition includes all classes and accomodations at the marvelous renowned Domus La Quercia. All rooms have a bathroom and include daily maid service and breakfast. Single occupancy rooms are available for an additional $300 and must be reserved at the time the first deposit is due. Lunch and dinner are also included.In addition to room and board, your tuition includes transportation to and from the airport, daily Italian lessons and an incredible opportunity to hone your craft in ‘il centre del monde’! (The center of the world)

TOURS: Rome, Florence, Bolsena, Civita di Bagnoregio, Bomarzo.

INSURANCE: All participants must have health insurance in effect during the time period of the Academy. The ILA can recommend a travel insurance company should you need assistance.

TUITON: Once you have accepted, your first payment of $1500 is due no later than April 1, 2007. Your second payment, of $1000 , is due May 15, 2007. Tuition does not include air fare.

INTERNSHIPS

ILA Interns work directly with department managers and staff, receiving hands-on training in either administration or technical theatre. Internships are vital staff positions at this internationally recognized program acclaimed for its innovative programming and strong business acumen. Interns work directly with department managers and staff, receiving valuable hands-on training in administration or technical theatre. Interns take leadership positions on apprentice projects throughout the season, and are directly involved in regular season productions.

o Intern Administrator Excellent opportunity for emerging professionals in arts management . Assist company directors in producing ILA productions. Observe and assist in preparing rehearsals, program, recitals and master classes as needed. Assist organization and maintenance of high-volume office.o Arts Administration Observe rehearsals, maintain communication with artists, designers and others, assist in research and development of specific projects and routine clerical functions. Respond to mail or phone inquiries about casting or other employment opportunities, maintaining files and correspondence. Initiate contact with contracted artists, providing hands-on facilitation of all transport and housing requirements. Provide contact to the professional staff with ongoing communication, manage multiple projects and deadlines. o Communications Gain career entry experience in marketing, public relations, local national and international media relations; graphic design and layout of ads, programs, displays and promotional pieces; single ticket and subscription audience development through direct mail, print, broadcast, telemarketing and e-marketing; special events promotion and outreach efforts; write press releases, program copy and promotional material. Hone interpersonal, organizational and analytical skills. o Costumes Serve as assistants to visiting costume designers, pull rentals, coordinate production paperwork and research. Become an integral part of a resident design/build team. Portfolio-building opportunities to design productions throughout the season. Journeyman and intern positions available.o Development Participate directly in an international fundraising programs, raising more than $1.5 million annually. Learn the fundamental skills of building board and donor relations and gain experience in the research, solicitation and acknowledgment of a diverse community of donors - from government grants, foundations and individual contributions to major corporate sponsorship and fundraising events. Summer, semester and season internships are available.o Festival Management The Festival intern position is responsible for coordinating events and projects, travel and lodging for national and international guests. Manage volunteers. Produce publications and flyers, coordinate exhibits, merchandise displays and festival events.

o Properties Work with prop designers and artisans on a variety of projects including furniture construction and finishing, welding, reupholstering and soft goods, crafts, painting, paper goods, stock organization and research. Portfolio-building opportunities to design. o Scenic Artistry Learn about scenic painting techniques and materials. Assist the Scenic Charge or Artist in painting and any other processes to achieve a finished product for each production. Work with resident designers and guest artists on multiple projects. o Stage Management Work side by side with professional stage managers, directors, singers and actors. Be involved in the entire rehearsal and performance process for mainstage productions. Work with visiting companies and directors. Serve as production stage manager for at least one productiono Technical Direction This position is designed as a real-time overview of all technical aspects of production in a major theatre. Learn to manage multiple shows in rotating rep, research and develop special projects in conjunction with technical management, and construct precision scenery in accordance with design drawings. Assist in the development, installation and maintenance of scenery while learning to resolve challenges in the mechanical and structural aspects of moving scenery and motion control.o Hair/Makeup Design hair/makeup for productions. Shopping needed for the shows. Supervise Chorus and Supernumerary makeup. Wig styling and maintenance. Hair Styling as needed. Present for all rehearsals and performances, training sessions and prep days.o Photography/VideographyImmerse yourself I a production company. Shoot rehearsals, productions and special events, digitally edit film, working with images in Photoshop or Aperture and filling artists' photo orders. Edit and produce CD’s. DVD’s as needed. ILA’s schedule places many tight deadlines on the photography department and is a demanding role. Must have own equipment. Familiarity with basic photographic and videography techniques, as well as knowledge of scanning equipment is needed. Additional training on specific equipment will be provided as needed.
