ABSTRACT In order to be more competitive in the market, manufacturers who use traditional

manufacturing conventions and policies, has to adopt computer aided manufacturing

techniques for the point of making process planning and NC-programming more efficient. By

implementing suitable software with multiple capabilities, significant gains in terms of

production lead-time can be achieved and a higher level of precision in the production can

be assured. In this paper, an attempt to use CATIA V5 software to simulate the real time

machining processes in the manufacturing of printing machines is reported and the

corresponding observations are presented.

process

INTRODUCTION

In an environment of facing the aftermaths

of globalization, manufacturing sector in

India is facing greater competition from

countries which could use cheaper labor

available. This urges the manufacturer to

constantly improve their quality and

competitiveness to maintain their market

share. Aside from product quality, price

and lead-time are key factors impacting a

concern’s ability to close a deal. [1–3]

The selected part for simulation is a lever

commonly used in vibrator control

assembly of every 125 series printers

manufactured by HMT machine tools,

India (Single Color Sheet fed Offset

Printing Machines SOM

125G/125N/125B). Conventional methods

to manufacture this component are

compared with manufacturing it in a five-

axis milling machine. The aim of this work

is to simulate the machining process using

CATIA V5 by generating CNC codes and

necessary documents for machining the

part.

Process Planning

Process planning is a vital element in the

planning phase for production and results

in a document called the route sheet or

process plan which is the step by step

instructions for selecting the most

appropriate resources, manufacturing

operations and their sequence in

production. [2]

The process starts with a

part or a family of parts for a completed

product arriving in planning along with the

detailed product documentation. On each

part a make or buy decision is made by

production engineering. If the part is to be

made in-house, a task involves the

selection and definition of the processes

that will be implemented in order to

transform the work piece into a finished

part of given shape and surface. Decisions

on processes to be used are largely based

on the starting material for the part. When

A Report on Design and Modification of Compressed Air Engine

Components

C. Chinglenthoiba*, V. Balaji, B. Abbas, A. Madhan Kumar

Department of Mechanical Engineering, Mahendra Engineering College, Affiliated to Anna University,

Namakkal, Chennai, India

BACKGROUND

Compressed air are usually preferred to

store the energy instead of batteries, their

potential advantages over other vehicles

include:

(1) Reducing pollution from one source, as

opposed to the millions of vehicles on

the road.

(2) Transportation of the fuel would not be

required due to drawing power off the

electrical grid. This presents significant

cost benefits. Pollution created during

fuel transportation would be

eliminated.

(3) Compressed air technology reduces the

cost of vehicle production.

(4) There is no need to build a cooling

system, fuel tank, Ignition Systems or

silencers.

(5) Low manufacture and maintenance

costs as well as easy maintenance.

(6) Compressed-air tanks can be disposed

of or recycled with less pollution than

batteries.

(7) The tank may be able to be refilled

more often and in less time than

batteries can be recharged, with re-

fueling rates comparable to liquid

fuels.

(8) Lighter vehicles would mean less

abuse on roads resulting in longer

lasting roads.

COMPONENTS ASSEMBLY The various components are assembled

together as fixed in the engine. The

various assemblies are as follows (Figure

Challenges in Modern Enterprise Application Integration

Nibha Singh* MMH College, Ghaziabad India

ABSTRACT

Since last two decades of computer era, complexity of enterprises has grown dramatically.

Increasing market globalization, product varieties and the expected quick responsiveness to

market changes all require enterprises to be more agile and responsive. Enterprises today

are struggling to meet those challenges, one of which is leveraging of advanced information

technologies as global economic integration that would need more rapid information

sharing. In this paper, a brief review is made to analyze the challenges in Enterprise

integration and the timely operations performed in improvising its structure as well as

functionalities.

Keywords: enterprise application integration, API, CRM, ERP, Hadoop.

INTRODUCTION

Nearly all enterprises have multiple

applications that are the system of record

for their key data, and business functions

upon which the enterprise is built. It is no

surprise, therefore, that we see

organizations wanting to progressively

surface these valuable assets in these

operational systems to broader audiences

within the enterprise or beyond. However,

it has taken time.

Enterprise Integration Architecture

Ever since enterprises have had

applications, there has been a need to

move and share data between them.

Getting users to re-key information from

one system to another ("swivel chair"

integration) was unsustainable for most

circumstances. This introduced the need

for direct (point-to-point) low level

connectivity between silted applications.

Often, it was impossible to get real-time

responses, so data was typically sent

asynchronously via files or one-way

messages. A new serialization and parsing

code was required on each side for every

interface. In the paper, the key stages in

the evolution of integration architecture

are charted, These stages helps to evaluate

where we are as an enterprise on that

journey, and considers what actions we

might want to take to mature our

integration architecture towards, or indeed

beyond, API exposure.

DIFFERENT PHASES OF

ENTERPRISE APPLICATION

INTEGRATION

EAI is an integration framework that

comprises of a collection of technologies

and services that form a middleware or

middleware framework to enable

integration of systems across the

enterprise. Varied business software such

as supply chain management applications,

ERP systems, CRM applications for

managing customers, payroll, human

resources and business intelligence

applications that normally cannot

commute with one another in order to

share their data or business rules. The lack

A brief insight on Manufacturing Support System Software used

for Process Improvement

Priyanka Garg* Department of Physics, University of Madras, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India

ABSTRACT

Selecting manufacturing support software requires an understanding of product capabilities.

Process manufacturing software allows companies to manage activities such as order entry,

manufacturing, packaging, shipping, and accounting. Process improvement manufacturing

software is designed to increase productivity and profitability. Inventory control software or

supply chain software is used to ensure the availability of parts and contain inventory costs.

It also helps managers monitor material and labor costs throughout the entire manufacturing

process. Lean manufacturing software or lean process manufacturing software tracks raw

and finished goods through a warehouse and analyzes the physical layout of the warehouse

floor and equipment. Process manufacturing software performs quoting, work order

generation, job tracking, costing, inventory control, attendance, and data collection

functions.

Keywords: enterprise application integration, API, CRM, ERP, Hadoop.

INTRODUCTION

Automation of the manufacturing support

systems is aimed at reducing the amount of

manual and clerical effort in product

design, manufacturing planning and

control, find the business functions of Ine

firm. Nearly all modem manufacturing

support systems are implemented using

computer systems. Indeed, computer

technology is used to implement

automation of the manufacturing systems

in the factory as well.

Industrial maintenance software may

include work orders, bar coding, inventory

control, and material list maintenance.

Lean manufacturing software provides

real-time information about products as

they move through various manufacturing

processes. Machinery maintenance

software tracks repair history and

schedules preventive maintenance.

The term computer integrated

manufacturing (ClM) denotes the

pervasive use of computer systems to

design the products, plan the production,

control the operations, and perform the

various business-related functions needed

in a manufacturing firm. True CIM

involves integrating all of these functions

in one system that operates throughout the

enterprise. Other terms are used to identify

specific elements of the CIM system. For

example, computer-aided design (CAD)

denotes the use of computer systems to

support the product design function.

Best Practices of CAM Technology in Textile Industry

Reema Jaiswal* Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, India

ABSTRACT

Garment and fashion designing companies face major challenges in today's global

competitive world. Right from the supply of innovative collections at the right price,

expanding outreach, designing personalized garments, enhancing brand image, building

customer loyalty and exploring new business opportunities. These challenges could be

overcome by combining the CAD/CAM and digital 3D technologies to provide optimal data

communication capabilities, as well as a complete set of fully scalable solutions for meeting

all requirements, from design, collection to visual merchandising. The design and production

techniques in the textile industries have changed in the last few years. To sustain competitive

advantage, companies must re-examine and adapt new business processes to deliver high

quality goods at very less costs. Most companies have now subcontracted manufacturing to

low labour. However, companies must simultaneously ensure speed and quality

corresponding to rapidly changing customer tastes.

Keywords: garment, innovative, business, process, speed

INTRODUCTION

Computer Aided Design (CAD) is mainly

used for comprehensive engineering of 3D

models and 2D drawings of physical

components, but it is also used throughout

the engineering process from conceptual

design and layout of products, through

strength and dynamic analysis of

assemblies to definition of manufacturing

methods of components. The designed

product on the computer can be tested,

modified and finalized for real production

processes. Machinery maintenance

software tracks repair history and

schedules preventive maintenance.

CAM is used for planning the different

manufacturing operations to create a

product. CAM involves milling, drilling,

turning, punching, wire EDM (Electric

discharge machining sometimes also

referred to as spark eroding), knife, laser

and plasma cutting and additive

manufacturing (3D printing). CAM uses

data from CAD software to control

automated machinery and generate tool

paths to ensure the part machined is the

same as the model.

IMPORTANCE OF CAD/CAM

The modern industry uses CAD/CAM and

it has wide applications in manufacturing

and designing industries. CAD/CAM can

aid design and manufacture and have

benefits:

The key benefits of CAD/CAM are:

the ability to model, adapt and

develop ideas

three-dimensional visualization
