CELEBRATE CULTURE AND DIVERSITY AT THE 28th ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL DAY

MILWAUKEE (March 7, 2011) — The AMU will come alive on Friday, March 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with sounds, sights, tastes and smells of over 68 countries. International students and other cultural groups on campus will represent their home country’s booth and offer food samples as well as display arts, crafts, fashion and music enjoyed by their culture.

“As an international student, I enjoy learning about all cultures, and I am excited to revisit each country one last time my senior year,” said Ann Weber (Germany), College of Arts & Sciences ‘12. “I have developed an appreciation for U.S. culture and encourage students to get excited about touring other cultural groups’ booths during International Day.”

International Day is held every spring to celebrate diversity in the Marquette community. Groups organizing booths will introduce cultural activities for visitors to learn about world cultures and participate in activities from trying on traditional outfits to engaging in popular art forms such as Henna tattoos.

“International Day transforms the second floor of the AMU, so you can literally travel thousands of miles in one day and your senses can experience the wonders of the world,” said Terry Miller, Director of the Office of International Education. “The day is a unique opportunity showcasing the food, culture, music, dress and customs of the array of international students presently studying at Marquette.”

International Day is a free event open to all Marquette University students, faculty and staff.
