of the finest classical and contemporary music, the Series continues to make a major contribution to the cultural life of Leeds.

Young Mendelssohn and MozartSunday 12 March, 3:00pm School of Music Project Choir with Leeds Baroque Choir and OrchestraDirected by Clive McClelland and Peter Holman

Leeds Baroque ventures into the nineteenth century to explore some of the remarkable choral works Mendelssohn wrote at the height of his youthful enthusiasm for J.S. Bach. They perform three chorale cantatas displaying his mastery of the Bach style but with occasional intriguing glimpses of a more modern musical world, followed by two settings of the Latin hymns Salve Regina and the Ave Maria.

After the interval, the School of Music Project Choir will join the orchestra for a performance of Mozart’s Requiem, completed by Duncan Druce. It remains faithful to Mozart's original yet tastefully expands on ideas that he left unfinished. The 'Amen' setting at the end of the 'Lacrymosa' is a particularly striking example of a large-scale eighteenth-century academic fugue realisation. With period instruments including basset horns and trombones, this promises to be a thrilling rendition.

FUAM was founded in 1989 to promote and support art and music at the University of Leeds. From informal beginnings as a group of staff members and friends with an interest in helping to foster the University’s musical and artistic life and outreach, FUAM has grown into an active and lively organisation, with a regular wide-ranging programme of events.

Through its fundraising activities it has provided financial support to both The Stanley & Audrey Burton Gallery and the University of Leeds International Concert Series.

Members receive invitations to pre-exhibition talks held in The Stanley & Audrey Burton Gallery, enjoy occasional special events in connection with individual exhibitions, acquisitions and concerts. In addition a regular programme of off-campus talks and visits explores art and music further afield.

Stage your event at the School of MusicLocated on the main campus, the School of Music provides a unique location for conferences and events. Its focal point is the stunning 250-seat Clothworkers Centenary Concert Hall. As well as being the perfect venue for musical performances, the Hall is also suitable for large conferences and presentations with comprehensive AV/IT facilities, including recently added HD live video streaming.

The Concert Hall is supported by the Concert Hall Foyer and newly appointed, fully licensed Clothworkers Bar.
