Forerunner of current private stock company BEZ TRANSFORMATORY was established in 1902 as an independent joint stock company „Hungarian Schuckert works“ with residency in Bratislava. Fusion of Siemens and Schuckert in 1903 caused that the

branch of Siemens was created from Bratislava factory with the residency in Budapest.Initially the company manufactured electrotechnical equipment. Since 1912 there have been manufactured distribution transformers which constitute a substantial production programme of the company. During the last 40 years there have been more than 230 000 transformers manufactured, which are installed in the energetic networks, industrial companies, in the housing constructions at the domestic (ca. 20% of production) and foreign (ca. 80%) markets as well.Joint stock company BEZ TRANSFORMATORY was established by foundation charter of National Property Fund of Slovak Republic from 12th of October, 1994.The company has been using a certifi ed management quality system ISO 9001 since 1996. The company established integrated management system in 2012. The system is based on the synergy of quality, environment protection and occupational health and safety protection according to the norms STN EN ISO 9001, STN EN ISO 14001 and STN (OHSAS) 18001. The certifi cate of integrated management system was issued by the company TÜV SÜD SLOVAKIA s.r.o., member of TÜV SÜD group.Mentioned results were achieved by own research and development workings, testing laboratories which enable perform routine and type tests as well. Type series of power oil and dry transformers with cast resin insulation were awarded by certifi cates issued by independent accredited testing company as: - ZKUSEBNICTVI, a.s., Praha-Bechovice, Czech Republic; - KEMA High Voltage Laboratory, Arnhem, Netherlands.Strategic intent of BEZ TRANSFORMATORY for extension of its product portfolio and future development of transformer production leads in 2004 to conversion of signifi cant czech power transformers producer ETD Plzen into BEZ group, with expected synergic eff ect for trade activities and logistics and since March 2008 a signifi cant service and maintenance company ESB Elektrické stroje, with its residence in Brno.

At the end of the 19th and at the beginning of the 20th century, a huge base of heavy engineering, one of the largest in the then Austro-Hungarian monarchy, was built in Pilsen. For electrotechnical completion and

fi nalization of ŠKODA engineering supplies, in addition to supplies of the investment units of industrial heavy-current electrical engineering, power engineering and electric traction, the management of ŠKODA decided in 1919 to establish the Electrotechnical Factory in Pilsen-Doudlevce (ETD). Subsequently, not only transformers but also rotating electric machinery and apparatus were produced. Technical erudition, the Company’s own know-how and adequately equipped production base enabled supplies both domestic as well as to foreign countries since formation of the independent Czechoslovak Republic until the present time, for 410 MVA three-phase machines (Kolubara power plant in Serbia) and 750 MVA one-phase machines (Ledvice power plant) with nominal voltage of 420 kV. The ETD also designed and produced hydroelectric alternators of high power output, turboalternators for fossil and nuclear power plants including two 1000 MW machines for the Temelín power plant, a series of EHV circuit breakers with SF6 quenching medium and many traditional engines and transformers for electric transportation in the countries within the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance, as well as control and excitation systems for power stations. After 1990, as a result of political-economic changes the plant divisions became independent and since 1992, the transformers, chokes, reactors and electric instruments for power engineering and electric traction had been produced under the business name ETD ŠKODA. In the frame of further organizational changes, in 1998, the transformers production division was integrated into the Company ŠKODA ENERGO s.r.o. and after 2000, it became independent within this company and was renamed to Transformers Division. As a result of a strategic decision of the owner, concerning the separation of electric power activities and in compliance with the interest of the BEZ Transformatory joint-stock company concerning the extension of its product portfolio with the aim of further development of the whole transformers division, the complete production of transformers division of the ETD was transferred to the BEZ group - together with its original know-how. In 2008, the ETD bought the internationally accredited Electrotechnical test-room from ŠKODA Výzkum s.r.o. in order to supplement its portfolio. So, the new owner in the Pilsen agglomeration is equipped with complex technology, know-how and testing equipment for power-plant, distribution and traction applications as the only manufacturer in the area of the Czech and Slovak Republic for the supply of power transformers of higher and high power output and also for the repairs of machines of foreign origin (complex repair of one-phase transformers from the 1200 MVA group of the Temelín nuclear power plant). The ETD focuses on power oil transformers production.

The manufacturing programme is based on machines with power output from 6.3 MVA do 410 MVA, voltage level from 6.3 kV to 420 kV. Majority of transformers work in power engineering – either in distribution networks to levels of 110 and 220 kV or in a block with power generator in power plants - to levels of up to 420 kV.The transformers are “made-to-measure“, according to the place of destination of the machine and specifi c operational conditions. The optimization may focus on minimization of price, optimalization of price with respect to operational costs (valuation of losses) or on specifi c parameters specifi ed by a customer. It is also possible to adjust the transformer to specifi c arrangement of the station, which can be used namely in the case of the transformers exchange within the existing stations. Respecting the existing building and connection dimensions may signifi cantly reduce the total cost of reconstruction of the substation.Further, the company produces autotransformers, air reactors for limiting short-circuit current, starting or smoothing reactors and oil compensation reactors, and it is able to supply traction transformers for various systems of traction power supply. The company has also developed and tested special purpose machines such as furnace transformers, machines for powering the semiconductor converters with arrangement to avoid the infl uence of direct current components. In cooperation with the external fi rm the ETD designed special electronically controlled compensation reactors to stabilize the voltage at the end of long lines, which is able to operate also at extremely low temperatures. The individual machines of all devices mentioned have been successfully put into operation. The ETD has reference for both, the hot climate with temperatures reaching 50°C (e.g. Egypt, Morocco, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Angola, United Arab Emirates) as well as for the cold climate, where in contrary, the temperatures fall to -55°C (north areas of Russia - according to the GOST norms)
