IB focuses on the development of the whole person as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside. Students in the 21st century are faced with the challenge of learning about an interconnected world where knowledge is constantly developing, the IB program prepares students to be active participants in a life long journey.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is an international educational programme that offers four high quality programmes to more than one million students in 146 countries.Franklin Academy will offer the MYP (Middle Years Programme) to all middle school students.

Founded in 1968, IB currently works with over 3,863 schools in 148 countries, working with over 1,215,000 students ages 3 to 19 years.

IB works with roughly 1,370 public and private schools here in the United States.

The goal is of the IB program is to help students develop the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalizing world.

At all levels, IB takes a global approach and focuses on the students as a whole both in the classroom and outside.

What is IB? The MYP is designed for students ages 11 to 16.

It provides a framework of learning that encourages students to become creative, critical and reflective thinkers. IB is not the curriculum, but the approaches to the curriculum.

The MYP emphasizes intellectual challenge, encouraging students to make connections between their studies in traditional subjects and the real world.

It fosters the development of skills for communication, intercultural understanding and global engagement - essential qualities needed to create a peaceful world.

Professional Development for staff geared towards IB, teachers will be sent all over the United States to get specific training in their subject group.

The learner profile is the IB mission statement translated into a set of learning outcomes for the 21st century. The aim of all IB programmes is to develop internationally minded people who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world. IB Framework IB is a curriculum framework.

The curricular framework of the MYP allows schools to meet specific state requirements and standards, while maintaining the IB mission

Students must have a minimum of 50 hours of instruction per subject group in each academic year.

Franklin Academy has an IB consultant.

Mid-year we will have a two day visit from our consultant, they will determine how ready we are for our application for authorization.

Application date for candidacy is Oct 1st.

After application, we will be given verification dates.

After verification visit, we will get our answer in 3-4 months on becoming an IB World School .
