The award categories – Employer of the year awards

In 2018 we’ll be recognising the top performers from across the Investors in People global community that have met our new stretching standard. We will use data from the Investors in People assessment process to determine the top 20 organisations within each size band and award level. These organisations will be contacted in June and will be asked to submit evidence to support why they should be crowned ‘Employer of the year’. This evidence will be used to whittle the initial 20 down to 10 to form the final shortlists which will be announced on 19 July.

The winners will be crowned at The Investors in People Awards 2018 on 28 November.

* This category is not part of the Employer of the year rankings. Organisations are asked to submit a written application for this category.

Platinum Employer of the year Criteria: To be eligible for this award you must have gained Platinum accreditation against the latest Investors in People standard between 1 July 2017 and 1 June 2018.

Gold Employer of the year Criteria: To be eligible for this award you must have gained Gold accreditation against the latest Investors in People standard between 1 July 2017 and 1 June 2018.

Sliver Employer of the year Criteria: To be eligible for this award you must have gained Silver accreditation against the latest Investors in People standard between 1 July 2017 and 1 June 2018.

Apprentice Employer of the year* This category celebrates businesses that lead, support and develop apprentices well to achieve outstanding results – benefiting both the individual apprentice and the entire organisation.

As a Silver, Gold or Platinum Employer of the year Finalist, you will receive a personalised

trophy at the Awards ceremony.

The award categories – Organisation awards Individual awards

Excellence in Social Responsibility (2 – 499 employees, 500+ employees) Finalists will be able to demonstrate how their people have developed and acquired new skills whilst making a valuable contribution to the community. For these organisations, social responsibility is driven from the top and rooted in the culture of the whole organisation.

Excellence in the Third Sector* (2 – 499 employees, 500+ employees) Transforming cultures and managing change with professionalism and highly regarded communications. Finalists in this category will be able to show that they are forward thinking organisations, committed to sharing best practice and continually striving to improve.

Excellence in Health and Wellbeing New for 2018 the Excellence in Health and Wellbeing award celebrates the organisation that actively champions Health and Wellbeing in the workplace. To be eligible for this award your organisation must hold a valid IIP Health and Wellbeing accreditation.

Leader of the year (2 – 499 employees, 500+ employees) By far the most competitive individual Award in previous years, in this category we recognise inspirational leadership that stands out above the rest. The winner will communicate a clear purpose and vision with passion, enthusiasm and energy. Finalists in this category will be exemplars of excellence leading their people to sustainable success.

The People’s Award for Manager of the year* Nominated and chosen entirely by employees; in 2018 we are searching for the People’s Manager of the Year. Does your manager, team leader, gaffer or boss deserve some additional recognition? Do you know someone that has gone the extra mile to support their team to develop, improve and succeed? It’s time to nominate them today and recognise their hard work and commitment to excellence.

Practitioner of the year* This Award recognises the outstanding work of Investors in People Practitioners. Our network of over 400 licensed assessors and advisors across the world support organisations every day to achieve the Investors in People Standard. Practitioners will be nominated across our territories by Investors in People Delivery Centres.

Excellence in Leadership and Management (2 – 499 employees, 500+ employees) Finalists in this category will have invested in their people to strengthen leadership capability at every level of their organisation. The result? People that are inspired and motivated to achieve their potential and managers that lead by example to drive the organisation forward.

Excellence in Reward and Recognition (2 – 499 employees, 500+ employees) Fostering a culture of reward and recognition at all levels of their organisation, the winner of this award will have a demonstrable commitment to their people, underpinned by an exceptional employee recognition strategy. We are looking for organisations that regularly recognise the right behaviours as well as performance.

Submitting an application*

1 For all categories, with the exception of The People’s Award for Manager of the year and Apprentice Employer of the year, applicants must hold current Investors in People accreditation (please view the application forms for individual category entry criteria).

2 Organisations submitting an application for the Excellence in Health and Wellbeing category must hold a valid Investors in People Health and Wellbeing Award accreditation.

3 Visit the application forms to view the criteria and detailed supporting guidance on each question.

4 Submit your application online by the 08 June 2018. There is a £100+VAT early bird administration charge for all applications received by 08 May 2018. Applications past this date will be charged at £150+VAT.

5 The finalists will be announced on the 19 July 2018.

6 Winners will be announced at our prestigious International Awards ceremony on 28 November 2018 in London.

Judge’s top tips for entering the Investors in People Awards 2018

Be concise: What is the core fact that you want us to know? What will make you stand out against the rest? Lead with this and back it up with the remaining word count.

Be precise: Figures and definitive numbers are always good. Customer satisfaction may have increased, retention figures may have dropped, profits may have increased. That’s all great – but by how much?

Be succinct: It’s easy to write a lot as there’s a lot you want to say. But read through before you submit and remove unnecessary words.

Be honest: Showing how you’ve hit challenges and dealt with them can be more impactful than an entry that just talks about how amazing everything is.

Be confident: You have already done well in getting IIP accreditation! You deserve to be considered for an Award. Remember that you have every right to be a winner.
