COVERS | 20 min loop Janek Schaefer (UK)

A self-portrait of the artist better known as ‘an architect of found soundscapes’ who was nominated for the British Composer of the Year Award in 2007. An avid record hunter, here Schaefer portrays himself through an avalanche of LP covers picked up from his collection. I listen to vinyl ergo sum. For his latest vinyl obessession Schafer says: I use vinyl in my music and exhibitions quite a bit. So people used to say, ‘Oh you are a DJ’ and I had to patiently explain that I don’t play other people’s records. I make my own! Until now! What happened? Stage = a playground for live art with larger-than-life projections, a camera and a screen left of the wave

SUN CLOCK Olle Essvik (Sweden)

Freshly nominated for the prestigious Prix Ars Electronica 2008 in the Community Art category, here Olle Essvik offers us to follow the sun as it rises and sets over Perth in real time day after day. See the solar brush strokes in the sky as yellow horizontal bands pushing the darkness on the screen. Think of minimalism, locative media and software in art. Download this constantly moving painting as a free art game for your mobile phone and use Essvik’s Sun Clock to work out the time of day without looking at your watch. Turn yourself into a walking clock! http://jimpalt.org/sunclock
