Client: Amy is a well known American pattern and fashion designer. Her most popular products are bags, summer hats, scarfs, tops, skirts, and aprons. She loves vintage style things and nature. These are two major sources of her inspiration and I am going to use them as my guidelines while designing The Penthouse Fashion Studio for her.

I got the inspiration for Amy’s Penthouse Fashion Studio from nature and also from her pattern and fashion designs. I wanted to create an inspirational environment for her during the day, but also calm and relaxing in the evening, so I included some outdoor features into the Penthouse Fashion Studio

The design of Amy’s penthouse is entirely based on a combination of two styles: vintage (original stone walls and roman blinds made from Amy’s fabrics) and contemporary (furnishings). I have also placed few aspen tree trunks (see south elevation) into her living space to make the feeling of ‘outdoors’ more realistic. Amy’s retail shop will include a counter that is made up using the letters of her name (storage), display shelves and units made in a shape of two flowers and a consultation area with a table and two armchairs.

MUSEUM EXHIBIT AND RETAIL. AFGHANISTAN Design of Exhibition space located Dundrum Town Centre, Dublin. The Museum will exhibit treasures of the National Museum in Kabul that are travelling the world until the political situation in their homeland becomes secure enough to allow them to return to their rightful place. These treasures will spend 2 years in Dundrum Town centre where it is hoped their legacy will continue to educate and inspire people to know more about their place of origin and in this possibly alter the future of the country and the region for the better.

Requirements for exhibition: ceramics/pottery, sculpture 3-D, the burial exhibit, jewellery, gold weaponry, architectural artefacts, miniatures/various sculptures. Requirements for retail area: space for t-shirts, books, various souvenirs, magnets, posters, CD’s DVD’s, blankets and smaller textiles.

I took the inspiration for the Museum from photos I have seen based in Afghanistan. I have noticed that people are trying to do anything to make their lives more happy and colourful no matter how hard and ‘grey’ everything looks. They inspired me and I have decided to introduce some strong colours into the space to emphasise their attitude and to show a desire for better days.

Neon flexible lighting will be fitted behind slim and long glass panels at the bottom of the walls to direct viewers throughout the museum.

At the entrance the viewers will be greeted by staff at the counter and directed with plans of the museum. They will pass information wall cabinets and walk through the bridge (wheelchair accessible) to see the historical columns and sculpture section. Sculptures will be placed in the water on top of revolving columns so the 360⁰ viewing is possible. Architectural artefacts will be placed behind customised floor fountains. They will then enter the jewellery and pottery section and the burial exhibit at the end. Coming back they will also see the weaponry and miniatures on display, and finally they will reach the souvenir shop where they may purchase a keepsake.

The dark starlight ceiling represents hard times, but is lit up by the bright and strong colours to show that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.

The task was to design a Flagship Store with a Restaurant for a fashion designer. I took my inspiration from her clothing collection – “Anthem” that is strongly connected with the music industry and the streets of New York which she is truly inspired by. I wanted to create the space that would represent her style in fashion. I also wanted to bring her customers onto the streets of New York.

The main feature of the store – the atrium

Poppy chair that I have designed brings an

outdoor atmosphere into the store, but also comfort and a point of interest for customers

using fitting rooms.

I have designed a special space for my client at the

back of the store where she can have private

meetings with VIP’s to discuss the designs of

their clothing.

The restaurant / steak house will be called “Anthem” to emphasise the strong connection with the music industry. The concept was to bring New York street elements into the steak house space. I have achieved that by placing lanterns, balustrades, pedestrian sidewalk, triangle shaped atrium (famous new york corners) and brick slips throughout the space. I have also placed two illuminated wall coverings with new york images. One will give the customers a feeling of sitting right at Time Square and the other as if they were on top of the skyscraper looking at the New York sky line.

The atrium is made of 36 pendant amber block lamps that are suspended from the shop ceiling on various levels.

Dining and high bar chairs will be made according to original famous zig zag chair and covered with black leather.

The floor space will be fitted with street

elements: post lanterns, cast iron balustrades

and a pedestrian side walk made of polished

concrete tiles. A waiting area that will

include many comfortable sofas as shown in the design

here.




3D VIEW MAIN FACADE

The main facade of the building will have big windows with triangular openings. These big glass panels will fully open into an over head position, like garage doors. There will be a wide observation decking in front with a dining space and a long bench for people to sit down and enjoy the marina view with Amy Lynam’s representative yachts. The wooden board across the deck will hold the steak house name “anthem” on both sides. The sign will be fitted with white and red fibre optic cables that will clearly underline the text.

The transformation of two bedrooms, one for a teenage girl and the other for a teenage boy. Both rooms have to be emptied and prepared before designing/decorating work starts. Some of the walls have to be plastered and new floors fitted.

Requirements: Design style: contemporary Colour preferences: pink, red, white Work: one wall has to be plastered, all walls and ceiling have to be painted, floor fitted, room has to be furnished and decorated Additional requirements: reusing a single bed already belonging to the family; possibility of placing a study desk.

I have placed two wavy mirrors on the stripe (dress-up/make-up space) and three shelves (each in different colour) next to the wave for little “bits and pieces”. The room became really interesting by connecting waves with straight lines. I have also made a collage picture to match with the pillows on the bed and to add some additional colours.

The white walls made the room look visually more spacious and inviting. I added the desired colour (pink) by painting a wide stripe on one wall and a wave on the other.

I have kept both rooms in the same style as per family wish. The walls were painted white to brighten up the space. I have added the required strong blue on the wall above the bed, creating a great background for black and white ‘New York skyline’ canvas – great feature of the room. To make the space more interesting I have added few textures by hanging two types of curtains and placing two types of rugs on the floor.

KITCHEN DESIGN. CLIENT: BRIAN KELLY

Requirements: Design style: contemporary Colour preferences: cream/ivory and dark brown with addition of strong red and lime green Work: plumbing job required (sink, washing machine, radiators), electrical preparation (all sockets and lighting), walls and ceiling have to be plastered (bad condition) and painted, kitchen has to be fitted and decorated, and new floor has to be laid. Additional requirements: kitchen has to include a table for 4 people with possibility of extension up to 6-8 people. Family also requires a coffee machine and all new appliances.

A kitchen transformation for a family. The structural work will include blocking up the existing door to the garden and creating a new one on a different wall. The old kitchen has to be removed before work starts.

The kitchen is fitted with an Italian style high gloss units by ‘QK Living’, Dublin 12. It also includes a high quality granite worktops and marble floor tiles supplied by ‘Marble & Granite’, Dublin 17. All appliances came from ‘KAL’, Dublin 24 and the roman blind was a special order and supplied by ‘All Window Blinds’, Dublin 12. The table is extendable (6 chairs) as per client’s wish.

FEATURE WALL DECORATION

The feature wall was painted with a pale blue colour and represents the sky. The tree trunk and its branches were painted with high gloss dark brown paint. The owl and leaves are made of many different types of wallpapers (collage effect). The variation of colours and textures makes this wall a really special feature and great entertainment for the baby. The nursery has all required furniture and plenty of storage for all baby needs and clothing. It’s a really bright, warm and colourful room and its theme was chosen while the sex of the baby was still unknown (unisex design).

LIVING ROOM DESIGN. CLIENT: ANNA JANICKA-ROCK

The living room transformation for a family. The house has two rooms downstairs – front room and living room. Both rooms have limited space and I have decided to connect them and make a living space that will be more spacious and open. The structural work will include blocking up the existing door to the front room and knocking down the wall that connects this room with the existing living room. Electric work will be required: some of the sockets have to be removed and a few added, the existing wall lighting next to the fireplace has to be removed and TV centre has to be prepared. Walls have to be plastered and painted, and a new wooden floor fitted.

Requirements: Design style: contemporary, mixed with few classical elements for decoration Colour preferences: white, cream, turquoise, pale green, beige and brown Work: walls and ceiling have to be painted, new wooden floor fitted, room has to be furnished and decorated Additional requirements: the living space has to include the entertainment centre with comfortable seating and enough space to accommodate a dining table for 6-8 people during holiday seasons or family events.

The living room has become really open and spacious by connecting two rooms and therefore a lot more usable for the family. It includes an entertainment/relaxing centre and a space in front of the fireplace that is used as a play area but also as a great space for placing a dining table with chairs during family events and holiday seasons.

The living room atmosphere is very calm and relaxing with the use of white, turquoise and brown colours. The chosen furniture has a contemporary feel, with straight lines and simple shapes but at the same time is very elegant and will serve the family for many years to come. The selection of colours for the walls, floor and furniture is very neutral and therefore the eventual change of accent colour will be very easy.

The major structural work was done by experienced builders who removed the wall connecting the two previous sitting rooms. They have also placed a steel beam to support the upper floor of the house. The hired electrician prepared the space for all required lighting and also fitted necessary sockets. The living room now has a very calm and relaxing feel, and it is suitable for all family needs.

THE DORMER LOFT CONVERSION. EN-SUITE BEDROOM/OFFICE DESIGN. CLIENT: FRAN DODD

The family wants to add an additional bedroom to the house for their son, but also would like to use it as a home office. Therefore, they have decided to convert the attic space (used for storage) into an en-suite bedroom/office. The structural work will be done by an experienced building company and when their construction work is done I will be given the finished overall space to work with.

Requirements: Design style: after a consultation with my client we have agreed on a Retro style (back to 60’s - 70’s) which their son really adores, with a modern and stylish bathroom Colour preferences: trendy colours back in the 70’s were bright green, turquoise, sunshine yellow, orange, red and brown. White was used everywhere – in furniture as well as for backgrounds to offset brighter colours. The strong uses of black and white were often accented with a bright colour by use of pillows, accent chairs and other fixtures. Work: the bedroom walls and ceiling have to be painted, room has to be furnished and decorated, bathroom has to be tiled and all modern fixtures have to be fitted Additional requirements: the bedroom has to have a good size wardrobe, a single bed that the family want to reuse and much needed office work space.

The major structural work of the dormer loft conversion was done by experienced builders hired by my client. I had been in touch with the builders during the whole process and I was able to consult with them many aspects of the build.

The conversion was completed in four weeks giving the family an amazing view of the mountains. After that I was able to present my design proposal for the bedroom and bathroom.

The bathroom is very stylish and elegant with all modern fixtures and tiles. The red floor mat emphasises the retro style of the entire space created at the attic. The bedroom represents all key features of the retro style by the use of bold colours (red, sunny yellow, black and brown), strong textures and mixed furniture. All the pieces of furniture and elements for decoration were carefully selected to represent the desired style. The single bed was lowered (to make it visually appear as double seating) and painted with a red gloss paint. The use of a yellow chair strongly symbolises retro style, as plastic and curved shapes were used for the first time in furnishings and became very popular back in the 60’s. To make the overall look complete I have placed a checked rug (that I made out of carpet samples) and a few accessories such as a telephone and a few vinyl record covers.

A bedroom design for a young woman in the attic space that had been used for storage only. The structural work was not required as the attic conversion was done. The space had to be prepared and cleared out before work starts.

Requirements: Design style: glamorous, contemporary with classical twist Colour preferences: white and grey shades with addition of black and green Areas of the room: night time (bed), study area, make up, chill out/reading space Work: walls, ceiling and storage units have to be painted, floor sanded and varnished, the feature wall fitted with wallpaper chosen by my client and the room has to be furnished and decorated

The mixture of different textures and two styles make this bedroom truly unique and sophisticated. The use of green creates a sense of light and space, plus a feeling of tranquillity.

A bedroom transformation for a married couple. The structural work will not be needed as the room is in very good condition. Everything has to be removed before work starts.

The inspiration for this bedroom was taken from the images presented at the right top of this page. I instantly fell in love with the combination of white, brown and turquoise colours. They are giving the space a calm and relaxing feel and also made the overall look of this bedroom very elegant and sophisticated. I have also added some family photographs and a big canvas above the bed to make the bedroom truly personal. The combination of contemporary furniture with a few classical accessories for decoration (hand made crochet - table cloth, jewellery white boxes and little vanity mirror) made this space really unique and special.
