What is it?

In the current design industry designing excellent spaces is not enough to satisfy either clients or users needs. They both desire memorable user experiences in private and public spaces. This unique programme therefore combines approaches of experience design with interior and spatial design to interpret space from both user and designer perspective. The programme equips you with technical and strategic angles allowing your future projects to tell stories through the fruition of built environments.

The mobile future of hotel experienceMonica Sogn will give a talk about the award winning project Snoozebox by Tangerine. A portable hotel room designed to fit in a mobile container measuring just 3.6m x 2m x 2m. The innovative concept challenges the traditional user experience of a hotel while offering new possibilities to hospitality service providers.
Monica Sogn will talk about the design-driven process that led to the ideation and design of the project, reflecting on how the industrial design perspective of a big consultancy firm, such as Tangerine, can contribute to the construction of the future of hospitality interior trends.
About the speaker: Monica Sogn is a trained industrial designer with an MA from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, London. She is currently the senior designer leading Tangerine’s colour, material and finish (CMF) team for both transport interior and product client projects.

Curating interior designMarc Peridis will give a demonstration on how to run an innovative interior design studio that incorporates both a sophisticated aesthetic and research of sustainability in each project. Marc’s firm 19 Greek Street represents an innovative design studio model combining interior design services for his clientele and the curation of design collections of emerging designers in the 19 Greek Street gallery space. This talk will explore this innovative model and the relationship between these two practices that allows to compose projects through the use of diverse visual languages as well as promoting discussions within the design industry about sustainable future living.
About the speaker: Marc is a designer and curator. In 2012 he founderd 19 Greek Street interior design firm and gallery, with the aim to bring beautiful, thought-provoking and environmentally conscious design pieces to the masses. His present and past clients include Vivienne Westwood, Marc Jacobs, Library (the members’ club), Sketch and Saint Martins Lofts.

Design makingThis studio visit will provide a close look at the recent trend of design making that is shaping the panorama of independent design practices. Jan Hendzel rode this wave before it turned into a media buzzword, feeling the sustainable and practical necessity to use recovered material in his projects that bring people’s stories to life by reinterpreting cultural heritages. The workshop will show how to take the first steps into an interior or product project starting from material and the interpretation of cultural environments.
About the speaker: Jan Hendzel is a trained engineer pattern-maker with seven years experience in the trade. Jan graduated from Central St Martins School of Art and Design with a BA (Hons) in Product Design and has a zeal for materials, design and manufacturing techniques. He co-owned and directed Hendzel + Hunt, a studio specialising in the manufacture and design of bespoke furniture. In 2015 he founded Jan Hendzel studio-workshop where he designs and makes furniture that comprises reclaimed and sustainably sourced English timbers, catering for the full spectrum of bespoke commissions, both commercial and private.

From heritage craft to contemporary interior designThis talk by Salviati Glass brand’s creative director Chiara Onida will illustrate the rebranding of the company from a heritage glass goods factory to a contemporary design brand. The story will be told via an overview of their interior projects that offer customisation of unique environments through the use of high end materials. In the talk participants will discuss in an informal setting strategic challenges and aspect of the global design industry faced when starting up new creative projects.
about the speaker: Chiara is a London based designer, born in Turin, Italy (1984) and graduated in 2010 from the MA Industrial Design at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, London. Chiara is now the creative director of Murano glass brand Salviati in Venice, Italy as well as working as a freelance design consultant for international clients globally.

The future of workplaceThis workshop will reveal the latest trends on the design of places for work, focusing on how to create spaces for collaboration to flourish. The discussion will aim to understand the transformations that offices went through in the last decades to become more sociable and shared environments. In today’s fast changing business and technological scenario, the worplace is not only an asset for workers to perform their tasks but they serve as platform for serendipity and sinergies that generate innovation.

CUltURal PROgRammEThis course is also designed to show you London from a number of different angles. Every day is packed with activity. You’ll be visiting acclaimed exhibitions and museums – whatever’s the top of the must- see list at the time – and also exploring some of the secret spots in London that most visitors never get to experience.
In addition, we will organise cultural activities in conjunction with the London Design Festival 2016. During the Festival we will coordinate visits to the 100% Design show to meet some of the most innovative design firms including Tom Dixon, Heatherwick and Barber Osgerby. We will also attend launch events of cutting edge furniture and products for interiors and retail in the indie scene of circuits such as Brompton Design District and Shoreditch Design Triangle; an unmissable opportunity to gain visions on current trends and opportunities of the creative industry.
And of course at the end of this intensive week we are hosting a party for all participants, with lecturers, special guests and people from the industry. It’s a great opportunity for everyone to get useful contacts, be introduced and just enjoy the company of inspiring and successful people.
