Springboard: The Play “Pierre & Mohamed”

This play recounts one of a tragic story that actually took place in Algeria, in 1996 when Pierre Claverie, bishop, and Mohamed Bouchikri, a Muslim driver who accompanied him, were both murdered.

• “Dialogue is a never-ending work: only dialogue enables us to disarm fanaticism, both within oursleves and in others”.

• As Francesco Agnello says: “When I watched an archive interview of Pierre Claverie, I thought ‘this is the first time that I see a man who actually lives by what he says’”.

• This message is still relevant today, as a certain various religious fundamentalisms are getting more and more violent across the world.

• The play ‘Pierre and Mohamed’ by Francesco Agnello is the result of a concrete human experience, a friendship between two men, far from the coldness of institutional meetings or from the laudable yet simple statements of general intent.

Why organise such events?

In the face of increasing:

• Racism, Islamaphobia, anti-semitism, anti-Christian sentiment;• Pressure of aggressive secularism;• Disorientation of youth in search of meaning

Inter-religious dialogue is the motor enhancing social links and promoting

harmony between people
