When you don’t know who to call, when you really need help

mySOS is available, free of charge, from the App

Store and google Play. Download and use it to save a life!

For more information: www.mysos.co.za

One of the unfortunate realities

of life is that emergencies do

happen – another reality is that

the quicker help arrives, the better

for the patient! mySOS emergency

app was designed to help you in

emergency situations by providing

you with the correct contact details

for emergency services and to inform

your emergency contacts of your

emergency and your gPS location. in

your estate, your estate security will

now also be informed that you have

an emergency and the gPS location,

making the response time shorter

and giving you access to help when

you really need it.

How does mySoS help you:• 1-button emergency

activation – on starting mySOS an

automatic countdown timer starts, if this is

not cleared, mySOS will automatically notify

your emergency contacts with details of the

emergency and location.

• Emergency – offers a list of contact

details for the closest and most appropriate

emergency service providers based on the

nature of your emergency (medical, police,

fire, sea rescue or roadside assist). mySOS

also notifies your emergency contacts about

the incident and your location.

• FindNearMe – helps you find,

contact and navigate to the nearest service

provider for the service you need. This

includes hospitals, doctors, pharmacies,

dentists, police stations and also veterinary

services for your four legged friends. Through

our partner Medpages we give you access to

more than 20,000 service providers in South

Africa.

• TrackMe – when you are driving

somewhere alone or for those early morning

rides/runs when you sneak out without

telling anyone where you are going. Set the

countdown timer before you start and mySOS

will track you, if anything happens and you

do not clear the timer before it runs out, your

emergency contacts will be notified about

your journey details and current location.

• EstateEmergency – if you have

a security (or any other) emergency in your

estate you can find the emergency number

for your estate under the emergency “lOcAl”

button. This will connect you directly to the

estate Security and also provide them with

your details and exact location.

CApTAIN’s reportWelcOMe BAcK! i trust that everyone had an amazing christmas period with family and friends and that you are raring to go in 2015. Hopefully no one has broken those new year’s resolutions yet!

i am really proud to say that despite some heavy downpours, our course is in amazing condition and the late rain in 2014 has certainly assisted us. Please take note that the hollow tining of the greens is set for the 19 to 21 January 2015 to accommodate and igT Tour event on the 12 to 14 January 2015. if you are still on leave over this period, please pop in and see these guys in action.

On 16 november 2014 the annual captains invitational took place at euphoria. Despite a severe downpour that interrupted play, everyone seemed to have fun and were treated to an amazing braai before returning to the club later the night. Very few people managed to complete a full round, so the competition was run over 9 holes. Well done to gogi (Tony Postma) for winning the day on 21 points!

The new year brings the start of many competitions, so please have a look at the notice boards as all the entries for leagues and knock-outs will be up shortly and without

your participation, we will not be able to make these events a success. given our league performance last year and the momentum we seem to be gaining, i have no doubt that this year will, once again, be our year to succeed.

We will be resuming the monthly captains challenge on 31 January 2015 and i look forward to seeing you all there. Please pop in and see Hokaai for all your needs.

golf isn’t like other sports where you can take a player out if he’s having a bad day. you have to play the whole game - Phil Blackmar.

Till next time - enjoy playing!

CApTAIN’s reportLadyi trust by the time you read this, christmas would have come and gone and 2015 would have been welcomed and would probably have started with a big bang!

Some lucky ones might even still be on holiday. But to one and all, i would like to say:

Thankstoallofyoufortheassistanceandsupportduring2014and i wish you all a very Happy new year and Happy golfing for 2015.

We’ve had a busy time behind us as most of the golfers prepared to take a break and go on a well deserved holiday.

Our centurion country club Thursday ladies league winners for 2014 got invited by the gngu for a function that was held at Services golf club so they could collect their trophy. congratulations to our ladies. We are very proud of you.

Welcome to Jannes and Kelly Sik’s baby girl, Hannah, who came into the world on 17 november 2014.

Our captain, Hamish McKee’s, invitational that took place on 16 november 2014 remained a surprise until we literally had reached our destination. To our delight, our destination for this event was euphoria country club. What a wonderful surprise this was indeed. regretfully, the weather didn’t play along and even though we rained out and not everyone could complete their rounds of golf, it was still a fun and successful day. Thank you Mr captain.

The golf committee year end dinner was held at ritrivo restaurant in Waterkloof which turned out to be an enjoyable event.

Our Thursday early bird ladies’ away trip to Sandy lane took place on 27 november. This was well supported and the ladies had a marvellous day. Thanks to all our ladies for their time and effort. And a special thanks to Wilma de Wet that helped with the arrangements.

On Sunday, 16 November 14, 48 members climbed on a bus and headed to the annual Captains Challenge… destination unknown! Everyone was in high spirits arriving at the club at 6am ready for action. This year our club captain, Hamish Mckee, organised a day at Euphoria Golf Estate and Hydro in the Waterberg. For those unfamiliar with this course, it is approximately a two hour drive from Centurion. The course was designed by Annika Sorenstam and boasts an impressive 19th hole, in the mountains accessible only by cable car. However, the weather did not play its part and they were unable to visit the noteworthy 19th.

Due to the weather, most of the golfers were only able to complete the first 9 and opted to skip the back 9 in the pouring rain. Sadly this included an impressive show of lightning. Hats off to those who ventured out after the lightning cleared in the rain to complete the back 9. Scoring for the day was tallied on the first 9. Congratulations to Tony Postma who lifted this years’ trophy.

Development was the biggest winner at

Glendower Golf Club as IGT Tour graduates

Jacques Kruyswijk and Werner van Niekerk

held off a pack of seasoned Sunshine Tour

professionals to come out tops in the Battle of the

Giants on Thursday, 20 November 2014.

The two Centurion pros both closed with rounds

of 68, but Kruyswijk edged out Van Niekerk for a

one stroke victory on 10-under-par 206 after the

rookie caught a bad lie and bogeyed the 18th.

Four-time Sunshine Tour winner James Kamte

rallied with a 72 to finish third on 210.

Divan Van Den Heever (71) and Jaco Ahlers

(73), who shared a birthday on Wednesday, tied

for fourth on 211, while fellow Sunshine Tour

regulars Okkie Strydom (72) and Zimbabwean

Ryan Cairns (73) finished joint sixth on 212.

IGT Tour Race to Asian Q-School winner Bryn

Flanagan shot 70 to a tie for eighth on 213 with

Ross Wellington, who returned a 71.

Kruyswijk and Van Niekerk are both products of

the country’s premier development Tour.

The newly minted champion own five times

before he graduated to the Sunshine Tour in

2013, while Van Niekerk will be gunning for his

card at the Qualifying School in January.

Kruyswijk birdied the second and fourth holes,

dropped a shot at the fifth, but chipped in at the

par-four seventh to get back on track. He eagled

the par-five eighth and turned in 10 under to

carry a three shot lead into the back nine.

“Werner was playing ahead of me and he caught

fire on the back nine,” Kruyswijk said. “He had four

birdies on the trot from the 13th to go 10 under. I

made a silly bogey at the 11th, but I managed to

catch him when I nailed a great putt at the 16th.

“I was gearing up for a play-off, but I saw him

make bogey when I was in the fairway at the

18th. It took the pressure off when I knew I just

needed to par the hole to win.”

Kruyswijk played a full season on the IGT Tour

before securing his Sunshine Tour card for 2013.

However, the Centurion rookie broke his hand

that October and missed out on all the big

money events. He kept his card for 2014, but the

22-year-old was ready to quit after not making a

dime in the first six months of the season.

“I decided to give it one last push, made some

major adjustments in my life two months ago and

came back to make two cuts in a row,” Kruyswijk said. “I tied

for 12th in the BMG Classic and 33rd at Lost City. It might

not look like much on paper, but it was huge for me.

“The IGT Tour is like family. It’s where I cut my teeth and it’s

always great to come back. I knew the Battle of the Giants

help me keep that competitive edge going for the Cape

Town Open.

“It was great to have a rookie chasing me, because that’s

why the IGT Tour is a win-win for all.”

Van Niekerk graduated from the University of Pretoria last

year and has been a regular campaigner on the IGT Tour.

The TuksSport Golf Academy player came perilously close

three times before he shook off the bridesmaid tag with a

magnificent wire-to-wire victory in the IGT Tour’s fifth Race

to Asian Q-School at Modderfontein in September.

“To be honest, this runner-up finish actually means more

to me than the win at Modderfontein,” the 23-year-old BSc

Construction Management graduate said.

“You only improve with development and playing against

some of the top pros this week has definitely helped my

game. I played with Jaco (Ahlers) in the first round and he

said I don’t trust my shots. I made a point of trusting my

game in the second round and shot a 67.

“Suddenly I was in contention. So I caught a bad lie at

the 18th; it happens sometimes. But beating a bunch of

experienced pros doesn’t happen every day. ”
