Dear Student,

Welcome to UCD’s sixth Law Careers Fair which has been organised by staff at the UCD Career Development Centre.

UCD has a strong tradition of supplying the legal profession with first class graduates who progress to become leaders in government, the judiciary, industry and commerce. While the current economic situation within Ireland and further afield is cause for concern, it is important to note that there are vacation placements, internships and graduate positions available locally and in cities such as London where UCD graduates compete well against their UK and other European peers.

It is particularly important that you make time to network effectively at this event - find out about employers you are interested in, the specific sector(s) they specialise in and how they stay ahead of their opposition. Resist any temptation to collect recruitment brochures and find out why the exhibitors like working at their firm and explore with them how the firm supports and develops staff. You can always read the brochures later and do your research on-line but it is unlikely you will have access to so many legal practitioners and recruitment experts again. Always remember, that in addition to your academic achievement and your employability skills, recruiters are looking to see if you are commercially aware - understanding their business and the environment in which it operates.

Whatever your needs - career exploration and research, meeting professional bodies and providers of professional legal education or finding out how to make the best possible applications for jobs, the Law Careers Fair has something to offer you.

After the Fair, remember to make use of UCD Career Development Centre which is situated in The James Joyce Library Building and visit our website at www.ucd.ie/careers to access our on-line services. Follow us on Facebook at facebook.com/ucdcareers and on Twitter at twitter.com/ucdcareers

Best wishes as you explore career opportunities brought to you by the team at UCD CareerDevelopment Centre
