NHHS Rail Program Recap Program Goals:

Enhanced regional rail service Frequent service in the peak hours Seamless connections to Amtrak & Metro North Continued growth in local freight rail service

Long Term Vision 25 Round Trip Trains Additional connections to Boston, and Montreal 30 minute, bi-directional, peak hour service Hourly off-peak service

Start-up Service – 2016 17 Round Trip Trains 45 minute frequency in the peak hour, hourly off-peak Bi-directional service south of Hartford

The NHHS Rail Corridor

Owner/Operator: Amtrak Length: 62 miles Infrastructure Conditions

Structures over 100 years old with severe drainage problems

Double-tracked until 1980s with 12’-6” track centers

– 23.3 miles of double track– 38.7 miles of single track

Hartford Viaduct: 1888 Connecticut River: 1905

At-Grade Crossings: 35 public crossings 13 private crossings

2012 February: Publish Environmental Document, complete Preliminary Design Phase 3A

March-June: Complete Preliminary Design Phase 2

June: Final Design in progress for all funded phases

August: initiate Amtrak signal cable replacement /PTC

September : Submit DEEP and USACE permit applications

2013 Receive permits; start construction on grade crossings, bridges, and culverts

2014 Start Station Construction

2015 Installation of new track

2016 Initiate start-up service
