This supplementary resource is a great tool to organize information on the topic of the states of matter and its changingphases. This file include:
The States of Matter – pages #2 – 4 (follow directions A). The Changes of States – pages #5 –7 (follow directions B). The Possible answers – pages #8 – 10 (follow directions C)
Directions:
A) Print the pages #3 and #4 (black & white) or pages #2 and #4 (color). Make the copies (1 set per student). Hand out theprintables. Then ask the students to cut the wheels out along the dashed lines. Paste the bottom of the wheel inside thenotebook (page #4). Take the top of the wheel (page #2 or #3), cut along the dashed line between each section of thewheel to create flaps. Now fold each flap up, along the solid lines. Then spread some glue in the gray area of the pastedwheel and glue it with the top wheel. Under each flap, ask students to tell what they have learned about each state ofmatter: solid, liquid, gas, and plasma. If they are using the black and white version of the foldables. Ask them to color theimages and decorate the wheel afterward.
B) Print the pages #6 and #7 (black & white) or pages #5 and #7 (color). Make the copies (1 set per student). Hand out theprintables. Then ask the students to cut the shapes out along the dashed lines. Paste the bottom parts of the shapesinside the notebook (page #7). Take the top parts (page #5 or #6), cut along the dashed line between each section of thewheel to create flaps. Now fold each flap up, along the solid lines. Then spread some glue in the gray areas of the pastedshapes and glue them together with the top parts. Under each flap, ask students to tell what they have learned abouteach distinct changes of phase: melting, vaporization, sublimation, condensation, freezing, and deposition. Ask thestudents to identify each change by writing them on the arrows accordingly. Use the two arrows to connect the wheelwith the plasma shape. If they are using the black and white version of the foldables. Ask them to color the images anddecorate the wheel afterward.
C) The pages #8 – 10 provided the possible answers and can be used as a part of prefilled foldables, so your students do nothave to fill them and can use them as flashcards to review the information presented in the classroom.
