“WHAT IS BRIGHT AND ASKS A LOT OF QUESTIONS” WORKSHEET
A sequence is a set of numbers that are in a particular order.
An Arithmetic Sequence is a sequence that has a constant value added to each number to make the next in the set. EX: 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, 16… (adds 3)
1. Look at the patterns at the top of the page (D-H) and list any that appear to be an Arithmetic Sequence.

In a Geometric Sequence each term is found by multiplying the previous term by a constant to get the next. EX: 1, 3, 9, 27, 81… (multiply by 3)
2. Identify any patterns at the top (D-H) that appear to be a Geometric Sequence.

“WHAT IS BRIGHT AND ASKS A LOT OF QUESTIONS” WORKSHEET
4. a) Describe how the number pattern in the
toothpick tables seem to each be growing
b) Try to write a rule or equation for each table

5. For each word problem set up an input/output table to model the situation.

6. Extend EACH table on the page by one additional row below. Find a point on each graph that you created to write new (x, y) values on the table from the graph. (**HINT: Look at where your line crosses intersections on the grid lines of each graph and write that point location)

7. Using a highlighter, find the point where each line crosses the y-axis. Highlight that point on the corresponding table. That point is called the y-intercept
8. Examine the y-intercept and the equation that goes with each table. Describe any connection you see.
