Project brief For the first project of the Intensive Production module I am planning to produce a series of three Portraiture hybrid images. Unlike in classic Portrait photography I am attempting to construct the portrait out of more than one image. The images will be digitally cut in either horizontal or vertical stripes and combined into one image using Photoshop.

Stylistically this aims to create a hybrid between Montage and Portrait photography.

In addition I am planning to exhibit the series of portraits with a recorded ‘voice-soundtrack’ of the subject telling a story. The voice is merely there to enhance what you can already observe, just like a soundtrack does in moving image.

- Classic Portrait shot (shoulder upward)

- “cut-up” style (two base images combined into one)

- different angles enhance one picture over another

how…I will digitally cut up the two images using Photoshop and layer them on top of each other.

By using contrasting backgrounds for each individual ‘base’ image I will achieve a black and white stripe look and it will also enable the eye to separate the images from another more easily

In order to achieve images that are complementary and work good as layers it will require me to strictly define the position and frame of my subject. This will involve a fixed position of the tripod as well as certain guidelines for my individuals.

This project will be produced in the St Matthias campus studio.

who…Ideally I would like to find 5 people from different backgrounds, gender and ages and finalise my choice to 3 portraits.

In order to find my subjects I will look online, get in touch with contacts from previous productions and contact potentially interesting people within my social circle and family.

Criteria:

- Interesting individual- Strong expressions/ facial emotions- able to stand still for a while (excludes children)
