1. Topic: Intelligent Road Traffic Load Management System Application for the city of Lahore,Pakistan. This end user of this proposed app would be the thousands of vehicle drivers to get a

quickest path available to reach their destination. The main purpose of this application is to use

available smartphone and wireless internet technology to deal with growing problem of traffic

jams that consumes out major part of valuable time and fuel.

2. What: The major extract of my this exploration was that this app is need of time becauseLahore is growing day by day in terms of number people , number of vehicles that are coming on

roads daily this include both public and private vehicles that in turn creating a number of

problems including the traffic jams. When a person in morning start his car to drive for his office

find a road jam packed with cars and find the road is blocked due to some under construction

that was started without any information in night or due to some accident. This consumes a lot

of his time and fuel and in turn he has to reach his office or on some important meeting or some

function late. This proposed smartphone will enable all drivers in city to get a clear and real time

information of city traffic situation and find the Quickest Route to their destination.

3. Where: This project is proposed for the City of Lahore that is the cultural and trade capital ofPakistan. Lahore is one of the most populous and crowded cities of world. It is the second

largest city in Pakistan.

Current statistics shows that the current population of Lahore is touching the figure of almost

9.0 Million and its growing as Lahore from last 10 years is going through a phase of

infrastructure, Social and Economic Development. Expansion of middle class and because of

economic boom enabling people to have their own vehicles instead of using the Public

Transport System.

4. Who: The people with whom I have interacted during my project were my colleagues who havetheir own cars and they too have to face same traffic jam and time and fuel waste problem

daily. I also interacted with public transport drivers including the truck drivers who are in the

field of logistics I also get intermingled withmotor bikers too. What I have learned after have a

detailed discussion with all these people is that Traffic congestion and long painful road jams is

becoming a source of many physiological and economic repercussions. People dont reach on

their jobs on time patients cant be taken to hospital in emergency and students are suffering

because of that problem because the traffic jam one main road disturbs the flow of traffic

throughout the city and if people have prior information regarding there is some traffic jam on

specific road then they will prefer to use some alternate route.

5. How:a) Data Analysis: I have managed to get data from different sources this includes Lahore

City Traffic Office and also Government of Punjab Urban Unit Department. Following are

Total Number of registered motor vehicles in Lahore is 2.5 Million in 2009 which is

expected to be doubled by 2025.

Out of 2.5 Million vehicles

30 % is the Two Wheeler vehicles (Motorbikes etc) 40% Public and Private Cars and other 4 wheelers vehicles 30% Other Vehicles

These statics are really alarming if I consider the current road and other transportation

resources and this number increasing with the passage of time. So now government has to take some

major actions to deal with this growing problem.

Flyovers, Underpasses, Multi-Layer Bridges are need to be constructed. Government has to make Public

transport more flexible, modern and comfortable so that people use public transport instead of using

their own vehicles this will make the load of vehicles on roads low to a great extent.

There should be some areas of cities where if you want to drive your car you have to pay for such asthere are several areas in London where payment has to be made to drive this will also compels people

to use those roads which are not crowded.

b) Design: The main technologies on which that project is based are Magnetic Sensors,Wireless Internet Technology and Smartphones Apps.

In this project what I have proposed is to use Magnetic Sensors basically count and detect

the vehicle body type on the basics ofchange in earths magnetic field so if these sensors

are installed along with Traffic signals and alongside roads and intersections that data

that is been collected is sent to a wireless access point from where using the wireless

internet technology that data can be sent to Central Traffic Management Center in real

time.CCTV cameras can also be installed and in this way real time video surveillance can

also be performed so if there is some accident took place or some emergency situation

has been created real time video imagery can be available.

So all the sensors that are located on different location in city and roads can easily be tracked with GPS

so to determine the location where there is some emergency situation or there is some traffic jam caneasily be located.

All that data that will be collected in real time will be sent to Central Traffic Management Center from

where that data using the internet technology can be made available to the users who can get a real

time picture of city traffic and road situations in real time using their smartphone app.

Its Harbor Freeway Flyover located in Los Angeles California USA.

Why did you select this specific location?

Los Angeles is the most populous city in the state of California and the second most

crowded city in USA.So here in this city you can find many places where technology has

been used to solve many problems like this Harbor Flyover where I have taken the shots

from south Figueroa corridor to Earnest E Debs Regional Park where Harbor Freeway

Flyover makes the journey so soothing.

How has technology enhanced this street?

This Flyover is the fair example of modern architecture technology that help large city to

deal with traffic management problems.

6) Final Product: Following are the GUI (Graphical User Interface) sketches of that app that I haveproposed in that project to get real time city traffic information.

Here in this application user can not only get real time traffic information , road situations , quickest

path to destination but can also get city weather information can also get some updates regarding the

city.

Let me describe the indicators of different color lines that can be seen in the above image.

Green: Traffic on Green Color road will be normal.

Black: That Road is under Construction.

Red: There is some emergency situation like some accident or that road is suffering from traffic jam androad is blocked.

Brown: There is some partial traffic jam on brown color road.
