INTELLIGENT HIGHWAY

PUSHKAR DUTT SHARMANAME:

33% of the nation's major roads are in "poor or mediocre condition." 36% of major urban highways are congested. 26% of bridges are "structurally deficient or functionally obsolete."

According to TRIP, a national transportation research group:

BUT WHY WE NEED INTELLIGENT HIGHWAY?

‡ The traffic will grow by 1.2% per annum each year

‡ It is not possible to address the problem by building new roads.

‡ Need to reduce serious road accidents by 50%

AND THIS WHAT….

WE GET

Grouping vehicles into platoons is a method of increasing the capacity of roads. An automated highway system is a proposed technology for doing this.

Cheaper Alternatives to Traffic Monitoring and Response

Intelligent highways will rely on some of the most common devices available in developed countries – digital phones. By using these devices we can reveal the locations of their owners, future traffic management systems will be able to collect and disseminate traffic information more easily and quickly.

SYSTEM

POTENTIAL BENIFITS

Greater fuel economy due to reduced air resistance.

Reduced congestion

On longer highway trips, vehicles could be mostly unattended whilst in following mode.

Drivers would feel less in control of their own driving, being at the hands of computer software, or the lead driver

SMART CARS

Thanks to the ubiquity of both Global Positioning System (GPS) and wireless communications networks, smart roads may soon merge with smart cars to form one big, brainy network. In this intelligent universe, cars will talk to roads will talk to cars.

CREATION REQUIRES:

Virtual traffic information network

Transponders on road sides

RSU acting as an interface

Vehicel infrastructure integration(VII) which replace the previous IVI

This all take us to

FUTURE :-

VEHICLES WITHOUT DRIVERS

RIGHT or WRONG we will see..
