MEXICO HIGHLIGHTS

Mexico is a large country of almost 2 million square kilometers and 103 million inhabitants. Mexico is a land having a large diversity. Visitors may find from outstanding resorts to marvelous ancient cities, from snow-capped volcanoes to pine forests, from deserts to extraordinary tropical beaches, from rain forests to modern cities. Its capital, Mexico City (Federal District) is a megalopolis with 9 million inhabitants and 22 million inhabitants including the suburbs. The altitude over sea level of the capital city is of 2,278 m. (7,473 ft). The average temperature during the day in Mexico City is of 25° (77°F) and the weather is mild with heavy rains during the summer and the beginning of autumn. Mexico City has a large variety of entertainment and cultural aspects. The prehispanic and colonial legacy is present both within the city and in the surroundings, making the stay of our visitors in Mexico an unforgettable one. The Organizing Committee, conscious of the importance of the historic legacy of our ancestors, will offer our visitors the opportunity to know some of the main attractions in Mexico City.

NATIONAL MUSEUM OF ANTHROPOLOGY AND HISTORY

Considered as one of the most important museums in the world, the National Museum of Anthropology and History of Mexico City has the biggest collection in the planet of pre-Columbian art which, distributed in its 24 thematic rooms, it makes up the biggest museum in Latin America.

The National Museum of Anthropology and History was planned by the Mexican architect, Pedro Ramirez Vazquez, who also planned the Basilica of Guadalupe, the Templo Mayor, and the famous graphic identity of the Olympic Games, Mexico 1968. This museum is divided into several rooms, each of them is given over some of the cultures that flourished in Mexican territory 3000 years ago: we have the Olmec room, Teotihuacan room, Maya room, Mexica room, among others of same importance. The museum has a temporary exhibition room as well; the exhibitions come form the other most important museums in the world.This site offers us a vision different from other museums, since, apart from showing unique pieces of pre-Hispanic art, it has copies of some of the most distinguished buildings of Middle American cultures that immerse us in their culture and way of life. Besides, the architecture of the place is in itself a beauty motif, since among its attractions, it has a great dome from which a cascade falls in honor of Tlaloc, the Aztecs' god of rain, as well as other elements that, combined with its collection since its creation, have placed it among the most distinguished museums of the world.

EX CONVENTO DE SAN HIPÓLITO

In this setting, situated in Mexico city's historical Downtown, architectural history and beauty converge.

Circa 1520, Juan Garrido began the construction of the Ermita de los Mártires (Martyrs' Hermitage), known today as Ex-Convento de San Hipólito (San Hipolito's Former Convent).

This property is classified, since 1964, as a Colonial Monument by the National Institute of Anthropology and History. Another restoration and conservation work ranks the construction as one of the most beautiful buildings of Mexico's colonial architecture.

México es un enorme país con casi 2 millones de kilómetros cuadrados y 100 millones de habitantes. México es una tierra que tiene una gran diversidad. Los visitantes pueden encontrar desde magníficos centros vacacionales, hasta ciudades antiguas maravillosas, desde volcanes nevados hasta bosques de pinos, desde desiertos hasta playas tropicales extraordinarias, desde bosques tropicales hasta ciudades modernas. Su capital, la Ciudad de México (Distrito Federal) es una megalópolis con 12 millones de habitantes y 22 millones contando el área conurbada. La altitud sobre el nivel del mar de la ciudad capital es de 2,278 m (7,473 pies). La temperatura promedio durante el día en la ciudad de México es de 25°C (77°F) y el clima es templado con fuertes lluvias durante el verano y principios de otoño. La ciudad de México tiene una gran variedad de aspectos culturales y de entretenimiento. El legado prehispánico y colonial está presente tanto dentro de la ciudad como en sus alrededores, haciendo esto que la estancia de nuestros visitantes sea inolvidable. El Comité Organizador de ASIPI-México, consciente de la importancia del legado histórico de nuestros antepasados, ofrecerá a sus visitantes la oportunidad de conocer algunas de las atracciones más importantes en y en los alrededores de la ciudad de México.

MUSEO NACIONAL DE ANTROPOLOGÍA E HISTORIA

Considerado como uno de los museos más importantes del mundo, el Museo Nacional de Antropología e Historia de la Ciudad de México, posee la colección más grande de arte precolombino del planeta, que distribuida en sus 24 salas temáticas constituyen el museo más grande de Latinoamérica.

El Museo Nacional de Antropología e Historia fue proyectado por el arquitecto mexicano Pedro Ramírez Vázquez autor también de la Basílica de Guadalupe, el Museo del Templo Mayor y de la famosa identidad gráfica de los Juegos Olímpicos de México 1968. Este museo está dividido en varias salas, cada una dedicada a alguna de las culturas que florecieron en el territorio mexicano desde hace 3000 años entre las que encontramos la Sala Olmeca, la Sala Teotihuacana, la Sala Maya, la Sala Mexica entre otras de igual importancia. Asimismo el museo posee una sala de exposiciones temporales procedentes de otros de los museos más importantes de mundo.Este recinto nos ofrece una visión diferente a la de otros museos, ya que además de demostrar piezas únicas del arte prehispánico, también cuenta con reproducciones de algunos de los edificios más destacados de las culturas mesoamericanas que nos sumergen en su cultura y su forma de vida. Por otra parte, la arquitectura del lugar es en si misma un motivo de belleza ya que entre sus atractivos cuenta con un gran domo del cual cae una cascada de agua en homenaje a Tláloc, dios de la lluvia de los antiguos aztecas así como otros elementos que aunados a su colección lo han colocado desde su creación entre los más destacados del mundo.

EX CONVENTO DE SAN HIPÓLITO

Situado en el corazón del Centro Histórico es un escenario en donde convergen historia y belleza arquitectónica.

Alrededor de 1520 Juan Garrido erigió la Ermita de los Mártires, hoy conocida como el Ex-Convento de San Hipólito.

Desde 1964 este inmueble es declarado Monumento Colonial por el Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia. Una reciente etapa de restauración y conservación lo sitúan como uno de los edificios más bellos de la arquitectura Colonial de México
