Course Outline

A note about Software and data files

• You will be developing a library of programs and data files. You will want to ensure you have them well organized.

• You are responsible for backups and “my program disappeared” will be no excuse.

• Memory sticks are easy to lose, and are volatile. Don’t let them be the only copy of important stuff.

Statement on software piracy

• Software piracy will not be condoned and will be deemed a breach of academic integrity!

Statement on security of course equipment and supplies

• Theft or careless damage of college supplied equipment or supplies will be dealt with harshly including expulsion from course, program and college and may include legal action.

Lab Access

• You may go to the Information Booth to acquire an access card

• If you have a parking card, this may be used.

• If you need a card, one is provided for a $5 deposit. This is returned when you submit the card

Lab Access Cont…• Access to the lab is for you to work on projects• No food allowed in lab.• Housekeeping issues may result in lab access shut

down.• Respect others work. • Do not change cabling unless directed.• Do not start something that you can’t finish and

expect others to not be able to work on that equipment

• No friends, family, or other visitors without permission.

• Permission will normally not be granted. • Encourage friends and family to visit in

April at the Open House.

A Word about the Schedule

• The scheduled lab times should be considered faculty availability times.

• These should not be considered the only or even best times for you to work on your projects.

• You will be given unlimited access to the computer engineering lab and annex.

Due Dates

• Research and planning assignments will have due dates announced and posted on the course WebCT page.

• Assignments requiring demonstration will have 1 of 2 due dates.

• Expect a due date in Week 9 for labs assigned in the first several weeks. A second due date will be week 15 for final assignments.

• Programming assignments need to be demonstrated.

• The instructor will view demonstrations during regularly scheduled lab times or any other time the instructor is available.

• The due date for programming assignments will be strict.

• You must manage your time yourself.
