ISS Molding Technologies

Injection Molding:A continuous elastomer material or plastic pellets are drawn into the barrel of the press by a screw. The tool plates are clamped together, then the screw forces the material to flow through a runner system and into the mold cavities.

Compression Molding:An individual preform is placed in or near a cavity. The tool plates are clamped together, forcing the elastomer to fill the cavity. The elastomer is vulcanized and removed from the tool.

Transfer Molding:A slab preform is placed into a well in the tool above a cavity. The tool plates are clamped together, forcing the elastomer to flow through sprues and into the cavity. The elastomer is vulcanized and removed from the tool.

Press-in-Place SealsAutomotive Market

ISS Press-in-Place designs provide seal retention in straight-walled or dove-tailed grooves. They are lined with retention and stabilizer ribs which hold the seal in place and make it easy to install for time saving assembly. The small rib contact points require less flange loading, providing maximum sealing under minimal pressure for non-ideal surfaces.

Features• Injection molded elastomer• Custom shapes, sizes and cross-

sections to meet any system requirement

• Controlled compression of elastomeric seal

Benefits

• Cost effective• Ease of assembly• Can be shipped as part of an

assembly• Long life in aggressive

environments

The drop-in-place design utilizes a rubber encapsulated plastic or metal backbone, lined with retention and stabilizer ribs. This design holds simple or complex seal shapes, easing installation and providing automation possibilities. Small contact points require less flange loading, providing maximum sealing under minimal pressure for non-ideal surfaces.

Hydraulic filter end cap provides directed flow while sealing inlet and outlet fluid paths under high pressure conditions. The outer ring seal is designed to seal on an angled enclosed surface.

To regulate air flow and control noise levels, air deflector mechanisms can be a value added feature fit for many markets.

Poly screen, paper and other filter media can be added into carrier seals to provide protection in a variety of applications.

Wire connections can be molded into the composite gasket integrating sensor lead wires, eliminating additional compression style connectors.

Parker Sanitary Gasket Program

Integrated Sealing Systems Division has developed an ASME hygienic clamp gasket that eliminates extrusion and alignment problems found in existing products used throughout the pharmaceutical industry. ISS over-molding technology supports the seal bead design and eliminates the possibility of rubber extrusion into the drain throat.

Page 14: Integrated Sealing Division Product Capability Overview

• Intrusion/recess of the gasket• The greater the difference between the ID of the gasket and the

ID of the tube … the greater the opportunity for contamination• Long-term sealability

• The ability for the gasket to seal for longer periods of time without having to re-torque the clamp

• Part removal from the flange• How easy is it to remove the gasket from the flange when the

gasket is being replaced?• Material traceability

• Are you able to take a gasket off of the flange and still have the ability to trace all the way back to the raw ingredients used in the material?

Parker Sanitary GasketsIndustry Challenges

Page 15: Integrated Sealing Division Product Capability Overview

Parker Sanitary Gaskets1” Design Features

Inner seal beads provide primary point of sealing (increased sealing pressure over existing designs)

Extended plastic helps support seal beads and limits extrusion into the tube

Reduced outer bead size prevents over-fill condition that would cause seal bead to extrude into tube

Outer clips help align gasket with flange

• Material traceability:• Parker gaskets will

have identification “etched” on the part to allow for full traceability all the way back to the raw ingredients used

• Testing plan• Parker’s gaskets have been cycled for 500 cycles

along with competitor’s products• Each cycle consists of exposure to 130°C saturated steam

for one hour and 15-minutes sitting at ambient• At the conclusion of 10, 100, and 500 cycles, pressure tests

will be conducted• Done with Riboflavin in order to better witness compromises in

the seal• Pressures held at 45-psig and monitored for pressure loss

• Seals also evaluated for ability to seal without re-torque• All joints given an initial torque of 30 in-lb

Page 18: Integrated Sealing Division Product Capability Overview

• Testing summary (through 100 SIP cycles)• Intrusion:

• 89% improvement over other EPDM standard clamp gaskets• Competitors products ranged between .044” and .054” of

intrusion into the ID• Parker’s seals averaged .005” of recess

• 80% improvement over PTFE/EPDM envelope style gaskets• One competitor averaged .024” of intrusion into the ID while

another competitor averaged .031” of recess

• 88% improvement over competitive colored compression-controlled gasket

• Competitor averaged .038” of intrusion into the ID

ChemCast piston seals provide flawless sealing at temperatures over 300 F and pressures exceeding 50,000 psi. They eliminate hydraulic piston drift, cold flow and metal-to-metal contact.

The innovative joint seal allows pressure application from either side, making a single ring completely effective in single or double acting cylinders. The piston ring will pass over port holes without danger of blowout. The seals internal, high modulus, elastomeric oval expander assures constant contact with the cylinder wall, thereby enabling the piston seal to operate effectively at high or low pressures.

See bulletin ISS 5801 for more details

Page 22: Integrated Sealing Division Product Capability Overview

The one-piece design of the rubber-to-metal bonded piston seal lowers total system costs, reduces weight and saves space. On our design, the one continuous rubber seal bonds directly to the metal insert, reducing the overall cost and complexities of installation. The integral one-piece construction reduces the normal tight tolerances required in machined piston designs, while providing superior inner and outer seal characteristics.

See bulletin ISS 5803 for more detailsBonded piston seal can easily incorporate additional features such as, check valves. Metering orifices, spring retainers and other attributes.

Page 23: Integrated Sealing Division Product Capability Overview

The Integrated Sealing Solutions’ molded lip seals are cost effective seals, designed to maximize seal force while providing outstanding drag characteristics in dynamic applications. The customized seal shape and proven molded technology provides an outstanding static or dynamic seal, as required in your application. Our lip seal designs conform to cylinder wall irregularities and provide more sealing surface than a standard seal.

We offer a large selection of standard materials, and can formulate custom materials to meet your specific needs.
