Supervisors will hear about basic responsibilities they have toward the company workers’ compensation cost containment program. The course will provide examples of what the supervisor may do to help minimize the costs associated with a claim, for the initial notification, accident investigation, follow-up communications with the employee, and Return-to-Work efforts. Accident prevention is an important part of the topic.

How to Get Organized and Stay That Way (BP-1) More than one business owner and manager has thrown their arms up and said “How can I keep all of this straight, I have all these compliance requirements (safety, DOT, Insurance, environmental, zoning, building, hiring, termination, etc.) from so many regulators, I can’t possibly meet all that is required. I have an operation to run that keeps me totally occupied.” Each of these individuals looks at all that must be done and make a decision about which way to go, each decision requiring a trade-off, what is being traded-off may not be known, and that can lead to the Unplanned, Unwanted Events that adversely impact the organization’s bottom line.

This course will provide a sound and effective method of evaluating what is required of an organization’s operation relating to compliance requirements; specifically in the areas of occupational health and safety, DOT, environmental services, workers’ compensation and others. We show you opportunities to save time and money by using the results of one effort to meet a wide range of other business needs. The course covers the type of information you should have available, how to coordinate this information, and how the information can be used. It can be used to

get organized and stay in control. Examples and ideas are provided for staying on top of meeting annual, quarterly and monthly requirements for recordkeeping, training, program review, sampling, etc. Attendees will get a new perspective and find some basic ways to gain the feeling, once again, of being in control.

A Systems Approach to Loss Control-“What Does It Mean to The Bottom Line?” (BP-2) What is a loss control program? Get any three of your key staff together and have each one write down what loss control means to them and see if their answers are the same. Can you describe your loss control program and what you expect as a return-on-investment from it?

In today’s highly competitive marketplace business owners and management need to look ahead and identify what they must do to remain competitive and successful. Many issues and needs compete for an organization’s limited resources (human, financial and physical). To remain competitive it is imperative to prevent

unnecessary losses to our organizations’ resources. Therefore, Loss Control becomes an important part of the day-to-day management of our business. Loss Control can mean many different things to individuals with differing responsibilities within an organization. Defining what Loss Control means to your organization and its management team is critical to meeting expectations and effectively directing limited resources toward prevention and cost containment programs.

One major area which takes its toll on available resources is the many regulations that must be kept up with and addressed. Insurance Industry Standards and non-compliance with regulations these days is far reaching ramifications, well beyond the written citation, accompanying fine and notice of course discontinuance. Non-compliance can occur for various reasons; one makes a conscious decision not to comply, error or omission on the part of someone in the organization, ignorance of the requirements, not enough resources to meet the many requirements set by several agencies, etc. As government promulgates new regulations, insurance needs change and many businesses look at each other as a separate challenge and set out to develop yet another program to meet the letter of the law or they choose to wait until someone points out their need to comply.

This presentation will present the concept of an integrated Loss Control/ Risk Management Program which works to conserve an organization’s human, financial and physical assets while helping to comply with several regulations and company policy and procedures through a single effort. We will also talk about how a coordinated Program can reduce liability, enhance image and marketing, affect ability to secure

capital loans, insurance and result in new business opportunities.

Those attending will gain insight to what can make up an effective Loss Control/ Risk Management Program and what can be derived from a program which is designed to be linked and coordinated with other applicable programs and activities within their organizations.

Loss Prevention and Cost Containment – Overall Return on Investment (BP-3) What Do You or Should You, Expect From Your Loss Control Program What does your organization have in place to prevent losses from occurring and should an incident happen, what structured cost containment steps are in place that allows for a uniform and consistent approach each time? We can help you identify key loss prevention and cost containment initiatives which can be of value to your organization.

Compliance is only one reason for having a sound Loss Control Program. The primary reason is to protect your human, physical and financial resources.

In today’s competitive market place more and more organizations (your current and future clients) are requiring its service partners/contractors/suppliers to maintain a certain workers’ compensation modification rate and/or OSHA incident rate to work for them and/or provide products and support. Also, more organizations are now requesting copies of Safety Programs, Fleet Program, training records, environmental programs, etc., as part of the bid package. Insurance companies are looking more closely at what

programs companies have in place to prevent losses and should one happen, what they have for a Cost Containment Program. This can all return in the form of continued and new business opportunities, potential insurance cost reductions and image within the industry. This presentation for business owners and managers will focus on the return on investment of using an integrated Loss Control/ Risk Management Program which works to conserve an organization’s human, financial and physical assets while helping to comply with several regulations and company policy and procedures through a single effort.

Workers’ Compensation Cost Containment (BP-5) The costs of an organization’s workers’ compensation program need to be managed effectively. To contain workers' compensation expenses, attention must be given to the underlying cost drivers such as employee return-to-work opportunities, organizational and administrative functions, managed care provider coordination, training managers and supervisors, development of return-to-work policies and procedures, workers’ compensation case screening, performing factual research to determine the legitimacy of workers’ compensation claims brought by employees and preparing for workers’ compensation hearings on litigated matters.

Claims left unchecked can adversely impact experience modification factors and loss ratios that can result in substantial increases in program costs.

This webinar helps you to achieve quality outcomes such as benchmarking and trend analysis, effective return to work programs, effective medical and disability management and ensure reserve accuracy.

During this webinar we will discuss job evaluations and how to conduct special job analysis to identify health and safety concerns which will aid you in returning injured employees to work, proper placement opportunities of individuals in jobs that match their physical, mental and emotional make-up, without endangering their health and safety or that of others, potential work design elements that may result in either acute injury or repetitive trauma disorders, job accommodations and position description development which can assist in meeting the requirements of the
