Directions:In this section, you are required to write a composition entitled How to Attain Our Goals in Life in three paragraphs. The first paragraph has been written for you. How to Attain Our Goals in Life As a sailing ship has a certain destination, so we must have a definite goal in our life. To succeed in life, a man must learn to develop such qualities in himself as _______,_______, _______ and ________. Here I would like to dwell a little on the first two.

To succeed in life, a man must learn to develop such qualities in himself as strong willpower, persistence, industry, and confidence. Here I would like to dwell a little on the first two. Undoubtedly, strong willpower is the drive to success. Take Michi kaku for example, fascinated by the brightly colored carp swimming among water lilies in the pond, little Michio Kaku realized that like the carp, limited by our world, we humans are ignorant of the outside world. As a result, Michio Kaku made up his mind to explore the laws of nature, which set him on the path to be a theoretical physicists. Obviously his success has a great deal to do with strong willpower.

Persistence is another important factor leading to the realization of one’s goal in life. Once we have set a goal for ourselves, we must not depart from our course until we reach it. Michio kaku is a case in point. Inspired by Einstein’s unfinished discovery, little Michio Kaku spent most of his time reading every book he could find about Einstein and his theories. He persisted in getting to the root of the mystery. At last, he devotes all his life to theoretical physics. Clearly persistence helped to make his dream come true.

As early as I was a high school student I decided to dedicate myself to medical science. This important decision in my life had a great deal to do with my uncle’s sudden death.

It was like this: One day when I came home from school I was shocked to hear my aunt crying with deep grief. Upon inquiry I learned that my uncle, who had been ill with hypertension for years, died to cerebral haemorrhage that very afternnon. Whie mourning my uncle’s passing I recalled that hypertension was also the root cause of my grandfather’s death and my father was afflicted with the same illness. Obviously it is mostly a hereditary disease, able to be passed on through the gense of a parent to a child. So there is a chance I many suffer from it too.

As time went on, I uncovered more about hypertension. For one thing, at present it is impossible to effect a permanent cure of the disease. For another, it causes thousands upon thousands of deaths every year. It became clear to me that we got to find ways to make the incurabe disease curable and save millions of lives. A likely victim of the disease, I made up my mind that one day I would join hands with the scientists in trying to solve this knotty medical problem.
