INSTRUMENTAL ENSEMBLES AUDITIONS Bassoon Packet There are four components to the bassoon audition: 1. Perform the excerpt from Bernstein’s Symphony No. 1 (“Jeremiah”) as provided on page 2 of this packet. (Hint: Find a recording – it’s not as difficult as it looks!) 2. Perform the excerpt from Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 as provided on page 2 of this packet. (Note: Students with no experience performing in tenor clef may skip this excerpt. It is not required for those players with no tenor clef experience.) 3. Perform the technical etude “presto” as provided on page 3 of this packet. (Hint: This etude is intended to show off your technical abilities; however, be careful that you only take it as fast as you’re able to play it cleanly.) 4. Perform the lyrical excerpt “L’istesso tempo” as provided on page 3 of this packet. You may also prepare a short selection (solo or etude excerpt) of your choosing for the audition. However, this is completely optional and not expected.
