Sabre Instrument Enclosures

The ever increasing sophistication of processinstrumentation equipment demands the higheststandards of asset protection. Operators need toensure that process integrity is maintained throughouta wide range of environmental conditions, many ofthese hostile and extremely damaging to unprotectedequipment.

To help achieve this objective Sabrehas developed a range of highspecification instrument enclosuresand associated instrument protectionproducts.

The Sabre Instrument Enclosurerange offers a number of key benefitsto the process operator, not leastrobust construction, advancedmaterials technology and a choice ofequipment options designed towithstand the harshest of applicationenvironments.

Sabre enclosures protect electronic, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumaticinstruments and associatedequipment from the damaging effectsof high winds, rain, snow and sub-zero conditions, bothonshore and offshore, so extending their operationallife, protecting capital investment and minimisingequipment maintenance and service costs. Process

measurements are maintained at consistent levelsthrough the thermal stability offered by the enclosure.

All Sabre enclosures incorporate a number of featuresdesigned to promote long life and ease of use.Enclosure bodies are manufactured from high strength

materials using precision mouldpress tooling to ensure repeatabilityand a close tolerance fit. All metalgoods are made from corrosionresistant materials and gas struttechnology is employed to provide asmooth and controlled opening andclosing action.

Enclosures can be fitted with anumber of options including: viewingwindows, heaters/thermostats, vents, and thermal insulation materials andare able to accommodate acomprehensive range of integralbase or back mounted instrumentmanifolds.

Sabre has extensive experience inthe factory fitting of free-issueinstrumentation - so supplying

complete, ready-to-use units directly to site. Thisresults in lower overall costs, improved installationtimes and reliable system integrity.

GRP Construction

Sabre enclosures are constructed from two identicalhigh strength Glass Reinforced Polyester mouldingsproduced using precision press mould tooling.Materials used ensure that the enclosure is fireretardant to BS 476 Part 7 Class 2.

Side Loaded Hinges

Stainless steel hinges are integrally moulded into theenclosure design so providing for a strong and robustconnection. The hinge design allows for easy removaland reassembly of the enclosure lid should this berequired.

Toggle Latches

Stainless steel toggle latches are used as standard. The 'over-centre' action of this latch type ensuressuperior sealing between the enclosure lid and baseand, together with the integral hinge design, maintainsa full contact seal along the total length of the matingjoint.

Enclosure Mating Joint Seal

The mating joint seal is manufactured from closed cellneoprene. The seal is mounted in the enclosure lid toensure that it is not accidentally damaged by theoperator when in the open position. The combination ofthe hinges, latches and joint seal provides theenclosure with an IP66 rating as standard.

Gas Propstays

Opening and closing of the enclosure assembly iscontrolled by gas loaded propstays similar to those incommon use throughout the automotive industry. Thisenables single handed operation even in high windconditions and prevents accidental closing of theenclosure lid, protecting both operator and equipment.

Anti-static Protection

For applications which require anti-static protectionenclosures can be supplied in materials which meet therequirements of BS 5501 Part 1 in respect of anti-staticcharges. The enclosure colour is black as standard, though other colour options are available.

Temperature Control

Enclosure systems can be supplied with electrical orsteam heaters to allow for control of the internalambient temperature. Thermostats can be used toregulate and control the operation of the electricalheater.

Extreme Condition Insulation

Heat retention can be improved further by lining theinternal surfaces of the enclosure with 20mm thickinsulation board materials. Insulation of enclosuresalso reduces the required heater rating.

Baseplates and Brackets

Baseplates and brackets are supplied as standard incarbon steel with epoxy paint finish, with stainless steelavailable as an option for more severe applications.

Purpose Designed Instrument Manifolds

Sabre offers a full range of 2, 3, and 5 valve instrumentmanifolds designed specifically for installation within anenclosure. These may be base or back mounted andare suitable for all types of pressure and D.P.transmitters. The unique split joint design of the Sabreenclosure allows full all-round access to manifolds andtransmitters/instruments.

Specifications

Enclosure Specifications Sabre

Sabre enclosures are available in a variety of standard sizes and configurations, designed to accommodate a widerange of single and multiple instrument arrangements. The modular nature of the Sabre Enclosure System ensuresthat equipment protection is optimised, so providing reliable and consistent data feedback from field instrumentationeven in the most hostile conditions.

Insulation

For the protection of instruments and otherequipment operating in a low temperatureenvironment Sabre enclosures can be fitted witha non-hazardous insulated lining material.

The insulation is constructed from a phenolicfoam and metal foil panel and is formed to ensureoptimum coverage of the internal surfaces of theenclosure. All edges are sealed to prevent theingress of hydrocarbons.

Insulation increases the enclosure's heatretention properties and may be combined with athermostatically controlled heater for greaterinternal temperature stability, so ensuringinstrument accuracy and prolonged performance.

Soft Enclosures Sabre

13

IntroductionSabre Soft Enclosures allow for the insulation and protection of equipment where weight, space and accessconcerns exclude the use of GRP enclosures. Manufactured from Silicone impregnated fibreglass as standard, SoftEnclosures are available in various material thicknesses to suit the particular application conditions. Light weight yetrobust construction means that the enclosures are self-supporting, removing the need for costly support frames orbrackets. For applications where the internal temperature is to be controlled, electric heaters and associated controlequipment can be supplied as an integral part of the enclosure.
