What is physics, and …

• Physics is the study of nature, but physics 1 will focus on:

• Motion (Velocity, Acceleration, etc)• Forces, momentum, energy, power• Rotational motion, torque• Waves, periodic motion, springs• Maybe a little E&M, Optics, Thermo

– Learn the concepts rather than relying on a formula

– Practice– Read, listen, take notes– Practice– Learn the material at first because it will

be used all year long!

• It’s not hard if you:– Know how to transpose equations, solve

simultaneous equations, quadratic equations, and how to graph

– Know SOH CAH TOA and the Pythagorean Theorem

– Know how to correctly use your calculator!! This includes the “EE” key, graphing, trig in degree and radian modes

words, use a very systematic approach similar to stoichiometry in chem.
