    Context for instruction:

The instruction will take place on Mrs. Dunnes side of Room 216 at the table by the window. It

will take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 7:45-8:30 along with Ks otherreading tasks. K will use a book at his DRA level, and he will be the only learner present. Miss

Stauder will be presenting the instruction, and Mrs. Dunne will be present as well.

    Research Rationale: attached

    Program Objective:

After reading a book out loud at his instructional comprehension level, K will correctly answer a

Who? question orally on five consecutive occasions.

    Generalization:

K will need to generalize that Who refers to a person in all types of books. K will be trained to

generalize because he will only read each book once. The initiator will train sufficient exemplars

by using different books every time.

    Rationale:

Comprehension is important because it allows the reader to understand what is being read. K willneed this skill, not only in reading, but in math, science, and social studies as well. Answering

Who questions about a story or event is an important comprehension skill.

    Assessment Procedures

    1. Select a previously unseen book at Ks instructional comprehension reading level.

    2. Instruct him to read the book out loud.

    3. After he has finished reading, orally ask him one Who question about the book.4. K answers orally within 10 seconds

    5. Document the questions and Ks answers. If correct, record +, and if incorrect or noresponse, record -.

Assessment Schedule: Assess every 5th trial. Informal Assessment data will serve as baseline.

    Instructional Procedure:

Trials will be conducted ~2 a day on all days K works with Miss Stauder (3 days a week).

    3. K reads the book out loud. Teacher supports as needed.

    4. At the end of the story, teacher asks, Who is the story about?

    Stage 1:

(continue in this stage until he scores a + on an assessment, then move on to Stage 2)5. Immediately provide correct response.

    6. K repeats correct response)

    9. If K responds incorrectly or gives no response within the 10 second interval, provideerror correction immediately and record a -.

    10. If K responds correctly within the 10 seconds, record +.

-If K receives 3 consecutive +s in Stage 2, probe for mastery.

-If K receives 3 consecutive -s in Stage 2, move back to Stage 1 and assess after 5 days of

    instruction.

    Reinforcement:

K will be continuously reinforced with specific praise. Every time he answers a Who question

correctly, the initiator will respond with something along the lines of, Good Job, K! I really likehow you remembered that Who means the answer is a person!

    Maintenance:

After K reaches mastery, continue probing one a month.
