  • Introduction

ADDIE ModelThe ADDIE model is a process that provided flexible guide to instructional

designers to create and build effective educational training courses and tools to

achieve the objective of the course or training whether it be face-to-face or

online instructions. Sharon Dera states “instructions is a plan of teaching and

the use of learning activities in which learning is organized”

I have used the ADDIE model to develop a training course to teach our work-

study students over proper attire in the work place. After the training the

learner will have an understanding of the type of clothes they should or should

not wear when working in an office. An example will follow after each of the

    following phases.

  • Five phases of ADDIE

The following is a systematic process

    consisting of five phases: analysis,

    design, development,

    implementation, and evaluation.

    Evaluation is done throughout each

    phase.

  • ADDIE Model

    Phase one

    • Analyze – During the analyze phase identification of who the audience will be, what are the limitation, what type of skills or knowledge the individual has before starting the

training. Ed Forest states the analyze phase is considered as the “Good-Setting Stage”.

The goals, objective, and environment that will be useful in the designing process:

    • Audience – who is training

    • Skills – how much do the learners know

    • Expectations – what is expected of the learners to know

    • Technology – what media is available to get training across and how much technology does the learner know

    • Evaluation – plan to stay on track

  • Example of Analysis Phase

    • Target Audience --College Students

    • Freshman-Senior levels: 16 year old and up

    • All ethical levels

    • Knowledge/Skills

    • Have students work before

    • Type of prior jobs

    • Problem

    • Some students have never worked in an office

    • Low income individuals

    • Solution

    • Show the difference of attire for office jobs

    • Uniform

    • Objective

    • At the end of the course the student will know what is appropriate to wear when

    scheduled to work.

  • ADDIE Model

    Phase two

    • Design – This is the brain storming stage. Information is gathered from the analysis stage and put in place to create the needs of the learner.

    • Type of media used

    • Instructional Designer creating the resources or a third party

    • Level of activity

    • Time frame allowed• Systematic – set of planned strategies to attain the project’s goal

    • Specific – executed plans are designed to target the project’s goal

  • Example of Design Phase

    • Media/Material• Overhead projector showing appropriate styles for different job types• Video showing sloppy employees versus groomed employees• Live models• Computer and internet connections

    • Activity Level• Uniform styles to fit teens to middle age groups

    • Strategy• Activity– Learner will participate in judging models to motivate learners

    • Goal• Learners will see and understand appearance is important in the workplace. Different attire

    for different job styles.

  • ADDIE Model

    Phase three

    • Development – This is the stage for creating, assembling, planning, and designing content obtained from phase one and two to create a program of what needs to be taught

    to the audience.

    • Technology is integrated, testing is perform and revised.• Three tasks in the development stage:

    • Initial drafts

    • Production

    • Testing

  • Example of Development Phase• Media

    • Computer and internet connections to show “https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6trZN60r4M” what not to wear

    • Overhead projector showing attire to wear in an office• Pictures of slacks, dark jeans, appropriate blouses, and shirts

    • Assembled

    • Two live models: one wearing wrinkle clothes and the other pressed and groom

    • Learners will judge to get a better understanding by raise of hand

    • Rehearsal

    • Perform and tim presentation to a 16 and a 50 year old

    • Receive feedback

  • ADDIE Model

    Phase four

    • Implementation - During this stage the course is created and ready to test. Continuous modification and improvement is done by Instructional Designers to obtain

the maximum results. Instructional Designers redesign, update, and edit the instructions

    to produce effective training.

    • Training delivered• Testing pilots

    • Train-the-trainer sessions

  • Example of Implementation Phase

    • Provide material to instructor providing training course ahead of time.

    • Schedule students for Saturday morning training from 8-12 p.m.

    • Schedule live models to arrive by 10:00 a.m.

    • Obtain learners emails to send reminder

    • Schedule training course on work schedule

    • Sign in log is provided with the course name and date for record.

    • Provide handout of the pictures that will be shown on the overhead for their review.

    • Test computer, overhead projector, and internet.

    • Redesign or update if necessary

    • Review participation when judging live models

  • ADDIE Model

    Phase five

    • Evaluation – Learners judge/evaluate the learning experience of the training. Based on the feedback from the assessment the course material can be revised

    • Was goal met?

    • Was the project a success?

    • Did it satisfy the manager request for the training

    • Evaluation measured by:• Formative – Method of judging internal activities throughout the forming process to catch any

    deficiencies.

    • Summative – Method of judging external outcome of the program activities.

  • Example of Evaluation Phase

    • Evaluation will be passed out to the learning group by a questionnaire form

    • Anonymous with only the name of the training course. Drop off in a box before exiting

    • Formative:

    • Was course helpful in understanding what the purpose was to learn?

    • Where the materials directed to the related objective?

    • Summative:

    • Where the instructions clear? Was the video helpful in understanding the objective?

    • o Strongly agree o agree o disagree o neutral

  • Conclusion

In my conclusion the ADDIE model is a flexible guide that allows instructional

designers to create a training course, make changes or adjustments during all

phases before the final product is introduce to the requester. Allowing the

instructional designer to capture and fix any flaws will saves the company time

    and money.

By attending the training course I believe the learners have learned the proper

attire to wear at work and the requester will be please that his work-study

employees are aware of what not to wear when they report to work on Monday.
