4. TUBE AND STIFFENER SLEEVES

Plastic tubes: Stiffener sleeves are always required to compress the thermoplast (SERTO ferrules do not cut the tube!)

Metal tubes: Stiffener sleeves are required for thin walls, see the table below for the minimum wall thickness without stiffener sleeve

Step 1• If supplied as an assembly, don’t disassemble to avoid particle generation• Fix the assembled union properly in for example a vise• Turn nut finger tight (Thumb and index finger, no tools, no plastic deformation)

Step 2• Cut tube straight and deburr• Place tube in union until it touches the ferrule



Step 3• Turn nut =~ 1 ¾ till mechanical stop is reached• Use spanner on the upper 1/3 of the nut to avoid unwanted deformation

5.2. TCP PNEUMATIC PRE-ASSEMBLY INSTALLATION

• Place the SERTOtool on a non-slip surface or bolt it to the work surface



Step 1• Before each use, the tool insert (1) and the forming pin (2) must be visually inspected for damage

such as burrs and cracks• Damaged tools may cause faulty deformations and later leakage

Step 2Before connecting to the pressure supply:• Set the correct dimension by rotating the tool insert (1)• This must match the type and size of the SERTO fitting

Step 3• Connect the SERTOtool to the compressed air 5,5 - 8 barg• The device must be disconnected from the compressed air supply in order to set a different

dimension (rotation of the tool insert)

Step 4• Place the ferrule and nut on the tube as shown in the image• SERTOtool is suitable for combinations of nut, ferrule and tube/hose and can be connected to any

body shape after deformation (T, L, cross, valve, etc.)

Step 5• Put the combination of nut, ferrule and tube straight into the tool insert, up to the forming pin until

it meets the stop

Step 6• The deformation is performed by moving the operating lever (5) towards the tube• After the needle of the gauge has stabilized, return the operating lever (5) to the starting position,

overtightening is impossible

Step 7• ln order to press the clamping ring correctly, the tool only opens after 2 to 4 seconds• Because this delay is necessary, the delay valve (7) must not be removed under any circumstances• After the tool has opened the assembly can be removed from the device

5.3. CHECKING THE ASSEMBLY DEFORMATION

Step 1• After the deformation is complete, a clearly visible deformation must be seen on the end of the

clamping ring, or for larger tubes an internal constriction must be visible

Step 2• The sealing surfaces of the ferrule must not have any indentations or eccentric deformations• Check sealing surface of the ferrule for irregularities

Step 3• After deformation, no gap must be visible between the clamping ring and the end of the tube

6. FINAL ASSEMBLY AND REMOUNTING

• lf a SERTO fitting is pre-assembled (with the SERTOtool), in the final assembly the nut must be tightened by hand till finger tight

• The same procedure applies for remounting



• After tightening by hand the union needs to be tightened ~1/4 turn with a spanner

In case of two in-line fittings as shown, allow some play by following the steps per side of the fitting, not per procedure.

Eg: finger tight, ¼ turn -> finger tight, ¼ turn Not: finger tight, finger tight -> ¼ turn, ¼ turn

Pneumatic operated tool for pre - assemblies of SERTO unions of medium and large series, in the diameter range of 4 - 10 mm.

Easiest operation without training, for economic working with reproductive compression quality. Easy to transport, instant use.

SERTOMATIC

Hydraulic operated tool for bigger diameters of 10 - 35 mm. Important time saving with reproductive compression quality of the unions.

On-the-job tool with 12V Battery pack or 230V mains.
