Brief ADAMSON History

I n 1983, Brock Adamson began

creating sound reinforcement

products that would open the ears and

eyes of audio engineers and designers

around the world. He envisioned a method

of reproducing sound which, even at

extremely high levels, would retain the

integrity of the original waveform and

preserve the subtleties of symmetry,

coherency and intelligibility – nuances most

often lost in translation.

Over the next two decades,

Adamson’s continued pursuit for sonic

excellence led to a number of important

patents in key loudspeaker technologies

being published. From those patented

principles emerged complex sound

chambers, highly engineered drivers, and

innovative rigging and cabinet designs that

have set new standards throughout the

world.

Brock Adamson ‘s passion for

sound has driven the evolution of Adamson

Systems Engineering from a small speaker

shop to a company invested in its own

factory, with a broad engineering base

and a wide range of computer controlled

manufacturing machinery. Now Adamson

is recognized as one of the most

progressive manufacturer of loudspeaker

systems in the industry.

Presently, Brock Adamson

continues spearheading the engineering

department with new sophisticated ideas

and continues advancing Adamson’s

manufacturing facilities with automation

and high-tech machinery.

Adamson’s highly regarded

Y-Axis true line source arrays unite our

expertise in wave-shaping sound chamber

technology with sophisticated driver

designs, derived from the highest modulus

materials in use in the industry. Top grade

materials such as Baltic Birch, heavy gauge

steel, lightweight Neodymium and Kevlar

are just a few of the raw materials that get

treated, shaped, machined and painted

in-house, making an Adamson speaker

enclosure stand out from the competition.

Featuring easy-to-use precision rigging

systems and the most predictive and

robust array design tools available, our line

arrays deliver extreme output, exceptional

coverage and unrivaled accuracy and

coherency.

The T-21 Sub, the industry

leader of woofer designs, offers a superior

extension to the Y-Axis Line; it features

6000W of continuous power handling. It

features two (multiple patents pending)

SD21- 21” Neodymium Kevlar drivers which

introduce Brock Adamson’s double spider,

dual coil design.

Adamson’s compact and

ultra compact Line Source arrays, the

SpekTrix, 3-way, 5° and 15° enclosure series

complemented by a dual 18” convertible

cardioid sub, and the Metrix 2-way, 5° and

winning dual 15” convertible cardioid

sub extension, deliver superior output

and coherency compared to any other

comparably sized line source array in the

market. SpekTrix and Metrix systems are

ideal as stand-alone main systems, and for

use as various fill enclosures with the Y-Axis

series. The ultra compact Metrix-i Series

debuts the EIR™ rigging system designed

specifically with the permanent installation

market in mind, lifting off 10 lbs of the total

box weight and saving on the overall cost

of the system.

A fter evaluating three other

leading line arrays, the Palais

des Festival in Cannes (France), took delivery

and installed twenty-eight Adamson Y10,

six Adamson Y10 Subs, 4 Spek-Trix subs in

cardioid mode and 4 x LX10 for infills for their

main “Grand Auditorium” stage.

T he secondary venue in the Palais

des Festivals complex called

Auditorium A, is a mid-sized venue used for

conferences and show cases. Auditorium A

recently received an upgrade with a small

flown Metrix system made up of one Metrix

Sub, two Metrix 5 degree enclosures and

two Metrix W 15 degree enclosures per side.

Two CB’s are used as infills.

“The 110m wide and 80m deep platform

was set 30m back from the 200m wide

seated promenade, and it floated on water with

rising and lowering tide, altering the height, and

hence the coverage of the speaker systems.”

S ingapore National Day Parade`s

appointed technical director

Nick Eltis together with designer Paul

Collison and audio designer Scott Willsallen

were given an immense challenge by the

Singapore Government: the event was to be

the best audio and lighting extravaganza

in the republic’s history.

The NDP’s floating platform

designed for the parade took 8 months

to build. The building plan also included a

200 meter 27,500 person capacity seating

area along the shoreline. It is the largest

floating performance platform in the world,

and also featured an internal drainage

system, cabling systems and lightning

conductors for safety purposes.

For audio designer Scott

Willsallen, the sheer size of the floating

platform proved a challenge among

others.

“I really looked at all possible

suppliers but I concluded that the Adamson

Y10 loudspeaker system would provide the

broad, deep coverage pattern required

for the application” explained Willsallen. His

design featured 2 scaffolding towers with

24 Y10’s flown on each side, four ground

stacked Y10 arrays, each consisting of 8

enclosures which were placed in front of the

scaffolding towers. The two central ground

stacked Y10 clusters were flanked by EV

X-subs in a tapered array and the outer Y10

clusters were supplemented by six T-21 Subs

per side. The installation stayed in place for

three months before the NDP event, during

which it was fine-tuned and used for the

extensive rehearsal period.

I t’s impossible to list all the talent

that has graced the Rolling Stone’s

stage, but here’s a few: Iron Maiden, Black

Sabbath, Joe Cocker, Beck, Duran Duran,

Alanis Morrisette, Oasis, Robin Williams,

Massive Attack, and Ben Harper.

In 1999 Il Rolling Stone was

completely remodeled and hanks to

this new look, the venue has gathered

notoriety holding private events for Italian

royalty such as Armani, Cavalli, Versus, Eros

Ramazzotti, and for the likes of The Rolling

Stones, whose confidential and frequent

visits inspired the club’s title.

Reference Laboratory’s Angelo

Tordini specked and designed this unique

main hall installation. It features three

complete systems meant for diverse uses.

One is the full size, flown, concert set-up.

It’s made up of two arrays of a single Y10

Sub on top, with four Y10’s and four SpekTrix

5 degree boxes flown as in a under hang.

Two Y10 Subs, each equipped with two 18”

Kevlar Neodymium drivers, are placed on

the ground to add a balanced low end.

The second system is a complete

surround style system used exclusively for

the club nights and private events. The

independent club system has two arrays

of one SpekTrix Sub and a four SpekTrix

under hang, placed directly opposite of

the Concert system, as well as a single T21

Sub hung cleverly in the center of the room

pointing down from the ceiling, providing

140.5dB of continuous SPL to keep the

masses dancing all night.

needed to provide sufficient low-end.

These were ground-stacked on movable

dollies on each side of the stage, in order to

avoid sight-line issues, while providing even

coverage of the theatre space.

T he Port Theatre located in

Nanaimo, BC, seats 769 people,

and can add an additional 33 skid mounted

seats in the orchestra pit when it is not in use.

The theatre has raked orchestra seating on

two levels, and a balcony with multiple level

loges wrapped around the sides.

With an adjustable proscenium

opening from 42’ to 48’, and utilizing

reversible reflective or absorbing wall panels

to adjust its acoustics, The Port Theatre works

equally well as a concert hall, theatre or

rock-venue.

These varying performance

requirements created a need for

predictable vertical control and extended,

well defined horizontal coverage. The client

also expressed the need for intelligibility,

musicality, and sheer power, to address

speech, instrumental augmentation, and

full-scale rock reinforcement.

The configuration for this

acoustically elegant theatre was simple:

Left and right arrays of Five SpekTrix, with

3 SpekTrix W’s flown as a stereo pair. The

adjustable rigging frame allowed for a

single point hang.

One Spektrix Sub per side was

“I have had an opportunity to work the

SpekTrix system with a wide variety

of productions and have been extremely

impressed with the fidelity and dynamics of

the speaker box. Being able to clearly hear 1

to 2 db adjustments on console EQ, 60 feet

back has allowed me to add my art into all

productions that hit our stage.“

Vilar Cente For Performing Arts in Veil, Colorado

T he Vilar Center located in the

heart of Colorado’s Beaver

Creek Resort, features a 530-seat theatre

that presents a variety of year-round

performances, such as jazz, comedy,

dance, film, musicals and theatre.

The upgrading of the conventional

sound system was greatly driven by the

demands of visiting performers. The theatre

found itself having to rent systems and

found it hard to control the coverage and

SPL from one performance to the next

(often from a single piano concert to a full

blown rock show), and frequently working

with an unfamiliar system that wasn’t ideal

for the space.

The theatre’s technical team

started to assess their choices and thorough

shootouts were arranged to determine

the right system. According to Ed Billeaud,

the consulting & visiting sound engineer

for the Vilar Center: “The Adamson System

was clearly superior in the upper half of the

frequency spectrum and demonstrated

much better sub-woofer cohesiveness.

It also showed much more accuracy in

terms of overall tonal balance; it was more

consistent front to back both in terms of

tone and volume. The better sensitivity spec

of the Adamson system became apparent

as they required about 6 % less input from

the mixing console for equal output, which

will translate into cleaner sounding mixes in

actual use.”

The system installed featured 6 SpekTrix 5

degree boxes flown from dead hang fly

points through the proscenium, on stage

L and R, covering the floor and a single

balcony. Two SpekTrix W’s15 degree boxes

were added to the bottom of each array for

effective down fill. Four SpekTrix subs were

flown on separate hangs on the outside of

the main arrays to retain the appropriate

length, ideal coverage, and to achieve the

correct height for the output of the subs.

“The intimate and inviting performance

space was designed to exacting

specifications to create perfect acoustics and

unobstructed views from every seat.”

L e Nouveau Casino is a concert

club located in Paris, France.

With a capacity for 400 people, the

multipurpose venue is used for anything from

intimate Jazz, Rock and Electro concerts to

DJ Sets as a dance club.

It boasts above average

acoustics for a design of its age, and

has grown to become one of the more

prominent club and concert venues in Paris.

The system for the venue was designed by

DV2’s Julien Poirot.

The main arrays are comprised of

one SpekTrix 5-degree enclosure and three

SpekTrix Wave 15-degree enclosures per

side, providing excellent coverage for the

length of the club, which sits at about 18

meters (59ft), with the W’s suitably shortening

the throw. The SpekTrix Lines 120 degree

horizontal coverage is more than sufficient

for the narrow space which measures 8m

(26.2ft), resulting in thorough coverage

throughout the listening area.

A single LX10 per side is used as

lip fills on the stage, in order to warm up the

first meter (3.2ft) in front of the stage, and

two MH121.5’s are used as flown backfills for

a night-club configuration when applicable.

The main arrays hang L & R above of the

stage, which takes up the entire width of

the venue, at a height of about 1.89m

(6.2ft) to the bottom of the array, leaving

a sufficient amount of clearance even for

taller performers.

“This result is achieved with the use of a

small a line-array configuration rather

than a non-directive conventional set-up in a

room this size.“

of arrays acting as a stereo pair thus placing

production manager Dustin Hamilton.

Some Point Series enclosures were

added as front fill boxes and in the children’s

room. Consulting and the sound systems

design was Acoustic Dimensions’ Jim

Burdette, and the installation was executed

by Clair Brothers.

T he Village Church’s Flower Mound

Campus Worship Center`s main

sanctuary is a 1,400 seat worship center. As

an open and contemporary environment,

it is an ideal and welcoming space for

worship, concerts and child education

activities alike.

Due to the size of the venue

and the need for scalability, the Adamson

SpekTrix Series fit the bill. Although speech

covers a broad range beyond the mids,

the trademark warmth in the Adamson

midrange adds a special quality to any

style sermon. SpekTrix has superb output for

its size, and features both 5 and 15 degree

(vertical) enclosures which accommodate

the low trim height inherited from the venue’s

grocery store days.

The installation features six

Adamson Arrays made up of a combination

of SpekTrix and SpekTrix W’s: Efx L, Array

A - Array B - Array C - Array D and Efx R. In

between Arrays B and C there are 3 JBL

Subs in line, and directly behind the B and

C Arrays, Adamson SpekTrix Subs are flown.

Original placement for the subs was at

the top of the main arrays, but they were

moved behind due to sight lines. The system

of flying subs directly behind the main array

is a factory suggested method which utilizes

two rigging frames and a standard Adamson

Frame Link Adapter.

Not all six arrays are run

simultaneously, but are matched to the

location of where the performance is taking

place: “Because of how wide the stage is we

created a system that can be adapted to

wherever the performance is taking place.

If someone is speaking center stage, we use

center clusters. When the band performs

stage right, the sound is coming from a set

“The speakers deliver an impressive

amount of volume. Usually for a band

performance we only run two of the six (arrays)

and still have some headroom. I am VERY

impressed with the Point-8 speakers as are the

installers and designers, the quality and volume

is simply amazing”

Paramount Center for the Performing Arts in Peekskill, NY

P aramount Center for the

Performing Arts in Peekskill,

NY has installed Adamson SpekTrix

speakers.

Originally built as a 1500-seat

movie palace, the Peekskill Paramount

Theatre first opened its doors on June 27,

1930.

The Paramount’s stage is a

“modified thrust.” The original stage was just

13 feet deep. In the late 1970’s, a thrust

stage was added in front of the original.

A series of major renovations

and a historic restoration project have

been completed over the past three years.

Presently the total seating sits at 1024 in 2

levels of orchestra seating and a balcony.

Today the Paramount Center

for the Arts operates as a year-round

multidisciplinary center for the arts, with

live performances, arts-in-education

programs, films, and visual art exhibitions.

The new speaker system is a

flexible 2 in 1 set-up. The L and R main

arrays consist of 12 Adamson SpekTrix and

2 Adamson SpekTrix Sub enclosures per

side. There are also 5 Adamson CB1 near

fills present.

T he Glema Mahr Centre for The

Arts, in Madisonville, Kentucky,

holds up to 1000 people and is used for

a variety of different events including rock

shows, Broadway’s touring productions,

community theatre and school

functions.

The installation for the centre

consists of 10 SpekTrix, 2 SpekTrix W, 4

SpekTrix Subs, and 6 M15 speakers.

The SpekTrix, W’s and Subs are

flown in L and R stereo arrays, each with

2 subs at the top, followed by 5 Spektrix 5

degree enclosures, and a single 15 degree

SpekTrix W as a downfill at the bottom.

The M15’s are used as triple duty

speakers as front fills, stage monitors and as

mains for the centre’s smaller Coffeehouse

series of shows.

New amplifiers and processors

accompanying the Adamson set-up

include Lab.gruppen PLM 10000Q for the

subs and SpekTrix boxes, Lab.gruppen

fP+6000Q used for the W’s MF an LF

sections, fP2400 for the W’s HF section, and

Install Series C48:4 for the monitors.

Rob Blumrick, Technical Director

for The Glema Mahr Centre for The Arts,

made the decision to purchase a new

system due to problems that existed with

the centre’s previous set-up. Blumrick used

a “best value” process when deciding on

which system to purchase. “The bid specs

went through several changes before a

final specs and approach was settled

on. The tricky part was keeping the specs

vague enough to allow flexibility between

installation companies, but making sure

that our overall standards were the same.

This also allowed bidders to show us unique

packages, but still bidding “apples to

apples”.

“When Adamson was

suggested, we got excited because we

had originally thought Adamson was out

of our budget.” Along with a new Adamson

system, additional changes made within

the centre included the move of the

FOH station from a booth, to a more

engineer friendly location at the back of

the house, with a new wall/railing around

the mix pit to enhance it visually. Since the

installation, the centre has received many

compliments regarding the evenness of

the sound throughout the house, and the

intelligibility of the sound produced.

“I love having a real professional

Adamson & Lab.gruppen system in the

house,” says Blumrick. “It frees me from

the hassle of coordinating another layer of

load-in and it gives me a more consistent

sound than rentals that come and go. It

also helps me serve the community and

allows me treat them like real stars.”

“Adamson is a brand that satisfies all of the tech

riders we received from touring acts, and in

the past we had rented Adamson Y-10 arrays for shows

with very satisfying results,”

Pastor Ron Clark selected the

Adamson system which he thought would

best suit their variety of needs.

Willingdon Church purchased 16

Spektrix Cabinets, four Spektrix Subs, one

M121.5, and nine CB1’s.

Their stereo system design

consists of L and R arrays of 8 five degree

(vertical) Spektrix cabinets, plus two 15

degree Spektrix W flown at the bottom of

the arrays.

Low-end configuration has two

Spektrix Subs were placed dead center

under the stage, and a flown centre cluster

of two SpekTrix Subs in cardioid mode. The

sub formation is processed separately

using factory specified cardioid mode

presets.

To achieve even coverage

throughout the whole venue, a single MH

121.5 was placed on the upper balcony

as side fill, and six CB1’s were distributed as

under balcony fills on the main sanctuary

level, three more CB1’s were installed for a

choir fill.

System technician Mark Siemens

notes that “The warmth and clarity without

any harshness really sold me on this system.

We go from choir and orchestra, to rock

within the same service, and the Spektrix

system performs great for both”.

Audio Technician Kevin Koehn

was quite excited after being able test

drive the system: “I’m very impressed with

our new sound system. I like to drive the

system a little harder than most, and I have

found that it performs flawlessly at higher

Adamson’s famous T21 sub-woofer, and

there’s only one word that can describe it,

“Incredible!!”

“A fter listening to the Adamson

system the first time and then

reviewing other line array ’s in the industry, it

seemed that they were missing something

that could not be pin pointed, but upon

coming back for a final demonstration with

Adamson, it was apparent that it fulfilled

all sound requirements, and we were

convinced it was the right choice.“

S uwon Outdoor Concert Hall

installed an Adamson sound

system for its amphitheatre’s seated area.

Korea’s most celebrated amphitheatre

is located at the heart of a grand oval-

shaped park in the center of Sewon City,

at a close proximity to Korea’s capital city

of Seoul.

With its excellent stage design

and surrounding landscape, the SOCH

was awarded the Korea Architecture Prize

in 1996. Such world-class musicians as

Pavarotti, Sumi Jo, and Andrea Bocellini

have graced its stage. The concert hall

is also home to the Suwon Metropolitan

Symphony and the Suwon Metropolitan

Choir.

The venue’s smallish conventional

seated area of 15 meters x 20 meters is

taken up by 796 seats, but the oval park’s

meticulously manicured lawns can hold

up to 15,000 additional spectators. The

installed system will easily cover beyond

the permanent seated area, but was not

designed to be used as a full park system.

The original design for the venue

proved to be problematic due to the

accurate and directional, and is capable of

producing significantly higher SPL than the

previous install.

T he fairly new Domicil was recently

voted one of the top 100 Jazz

clubs in the world by Downbeat Magazine,

and it is also commonly known as one of the

best jazz venues in Germany. In addition to its

signature sounds, national and international

artists of world music, avant garde and

occasionally even rock bands have graced

its stages.

Hamburg based Dirtector of

Adamson`s European Operations Jochen

Sommer executed the sound design using

Shooter v.2.7.0.

The new P.A. in the main venue

consists of L and R flown arrays of two Spektrix

(5-degrees) with a two-box Adamson SpekTrix

W (15-degrees) underhang. Two SpekTrix

double 18” Subs per side are placed on the

floor.

According to Mark Scholtz in

Domicil’s production management: “The

old system was the first system in the new

club, but unfortunately it did not meet the

musical needs.” A shootout was arranged

between Adamson, and well known German

and French manufacturers. Adamson had

come recommended by sound engineers,

including Jörn Müller who commented that

“Adamson is the best system for the buck”.

A udiolite has completed the

installation of a permanent

system for the Football Stadium of Lorient.

The venue is a 31,127 all-seated, state-of

the art stadium. The soil remains un-heated

as the soccer team takes a winter break

and Brittany is rarely recipient of heavy

snowfalls. The stadium isn’t covered as

a choice, on the basis that a roof would

increase the cost by a large amount,

limit future expansion work, and probably

worsen the state of the natural playing field

due to lack of sunlight.

The Stadium’s new sound system

is mainly used for speeches and sports-

event entertainment segments including

music, but occasionally the venue is

used for larger events such as the Festival

Interceltique de Lorient.

On the site, project supervisor

Franck Fily, sound system designer Sylvain

Turpin - who was also in charge of the

system alignment, rigging expert Lionel

Gillet, and cable manufacturer Jord

Mallejac, placed 3 clusters of 6 Adamson

Metrix W’s in the North bleachers and four

clusters of 6 Adamson Metrix W’s in the

Presidential bleachers.

With the system’s permanent

placement outdoors at a close proximity

to the salty winds of the Altantic Ocean,

many anticipatory steps were taken to

guarantee the system’s longevity. First, was

waterproofing it against humidity using a

special paint for the birch enclosure. It was

then varnished inside out with a special

varnish covering every inch of the wooden

surface. The usual Speakon connectors

were removed and replaced with strain

reliefs–directly to the box. The speaker

components were tropicalized, further

water-proofing parts such as the already

weather resilient Kevlar cones. All rigging

hardware including frames and pins were

galvanized. The grill was constructed from

aluminum, instead of the usual steel.

“The Adamson ND-8LM 16 Ohm

drivers made us gain some savings due

to less cabling and amplifying. We put 6

Metrix W LF & HF’s on two channels of a Lab.

gruppen C68:4” A second phase of the

install has added another 18 Metrix Ws to

complete another tribune.

W ith the special rigging hardware and

unusual coverage area, the Metrix W’s

proved a fine choice. “Due to difficult rigging

point options, a vertical area of 90 degrees had

to be covered with each cluster, making the

Adamson Metrix W’s 15-degree vertical coverage

essential”

R ansdell Chapel at

Campbellsville University in KY,

is an 800 seat chapel complex on campus

serving the 2,500 student body to many

performances by their music department

throughout the year.

Single podium microphone

gatherings to full scale concerts featuring

touring artists, along with the school’s

full concert band, choir and orchestra

performances require the chapel to be

very diverse in its capabilities.

The task of rejuvenating the

sound in the chapel began with four

different sound engineers in the room.

“After meeting with all four of them I was

able to immediately cut two from the list.”

JCA Media with Marc Warling of On-Line

Marketing came to Ransdell to demo their

gear, all Adamson products.

I had never even heard of

Adamson, but once I had it was all over.

That demo was the clearest speaker I had

ever heard.” said the coordinator of audio

and visual services at the university, Doug

Price.

Installation began with 8 Metrix,

2 Metrix Waves and 2 Metrix Subs flown

left and right, with the left-right placement

required due to the aesthetics of the room.

White speakers matched to

the colour of the chapel, were custom

made to appreciate the artistic design.

“[There are] many reflective surfaces, the

motivating reason for going with a speaker

with such tight tolerances. Adamson really

put the sound where we needed it and

kept the surfaces free from deflections.”

“Once we heard the Adamson

equipment in the room there

was no need to continue with any further

demos. Everyone in the room was blown

away by what we heard and we started to

design the system right then.”

T he Singapore Zoological

Gardens installed an Adamson

Metrix Line Array System in the zoo’s Shaw

Foundation Amphitheatre. The newly

renovated 1,400 seat Amphitheatre is

home to a variety of animal presentations

and information shows.

During the renovation of the

open-air Shaw Amphitheatre, many

additions were made including the

construction of a new fabric membrane

roof, further rows of seating at the top, and

a wide corridor for additional standing

room. Purchasing criteria for the new sound

system was primarily based on budget,

coverage, requisite SPL and a fresh

contemporary look.

The sound system design was

executed by Team 108’s Kevin Nair and

Mark Tan, who prepared all cabling and

special caged rigging for the install. Mr

Nair’s design features a L and R flown

hang, each consisting of two Adamson

Metrix Subs at the top of the arrays, two

5 degree Metrix enclosures and four

15 degree Metrix W’s at the bottom, to

complement and provide even coverage

for the amphitheatre’s typically inclined

seating.

The audience area now

possesses perfect sound with only one

problem spot on stage, where there is a

slight slap-back from the seating area’s

concrete step construction; fortunately the

reflection is virtually eliminated when the

audience is present.

to help minimize a negative response from the

easily scared animals in the shows.”

The National Theatre in San Jose, Costa Rica

T he Teatro Nacional de Costa

Rica opened to the public

on October 21, 1897. The building

is a national heritage building and is

considered the finest historical landmark in

the capital.

The bidders for the install had to

submit a substantial amount of technical

information that included numerous

coverage simulations to prove that a

balanced sound which Claudio Schifani

Alvarez, (Technical Director of the Teatro

Nacional) and his committee were looking

for was indeed attainable, plus It would

have to be achieved with a minimum

amount of speakers to avoid visual

distraction, thus maintaining the theater’s

integrity as a masterpiece of art.

An ultra compact Adamson

2-way (3-way with sub) line array was

chosen after a long process of stringent

bidding with most of the usual suspects

present.

A custom pair of structures were

built to hang the clusters without touching

the front face of the proscenium. Off

those arms eight Metrix-i enclosures, with a

footprint of only 8.5” in height by 21” width

and weighting in at 43.5 lbs each, were

mounted. At the bottom of each array

two metrix-W-i enclosures which have a

15-degree vertical coverage, took care of

the first rows of the orchestra seating area.

The total hang weight including the Metrix-

i’s heavier steel frame topped at 295kg per

array.

Two subs were ground stacked

sans dollies on each side of the stage to

avoid rolling as the lip of the stage has a

slight decline towards the front.

Four CB-1 enclosures with 60 x 90

rotatable horns were used as removable fill

cabinets on the lip of the stage, as well as

to cover 2 blind spots in the outer corners of

the stage. The CB1’s were hung horizontally

using their standard brackets and their

waveguides were rotated to cover 60

degrees on the horizontal plain as they did

not want them to bleed to the orchestra

level.

“The theatre`s new sound system

would need to deliver extreme sound

clarity and smooth balance in all of the seats

worthy of a national theatre, yet have a very

small size to keep the optical annoyance of

contemporary technology in a century building

to a minimum.“

M CH center is made up of a

Congress center, exhibition

center and an outdoor arena. The congress

centre is comprised of a large amphitheatre

style auditorium, three concert halls and 4

distinct meeting rooms.

The Metrix exhibits all that

Adamson is known for; great warm vocal

quality with present and coherent mids and

hi’s, with enough bottom end and SPL (peak

at 132.5dB) to cover both venues evenly. The

Metrix’s ultra compact size makes it discreet

and lets the focus be where it is needed; on

stage and on the performer. The low ceiling

height of the Congress Hall installation calls

for 4 short Metrix clusters. Two clusters are

flown L and R of stage, 2 flown as delays in

the middle of the hall and two Metrix Subs sit

on the on the stage. Each cluster is made of

1 Metrix-i and 2 Metrix W-i enclosures and the

bottom of the array, totaling in 35 degrees

of vertical and 120 degrees of horizontal

coverage. As a permanent installation

Adamson’s –i series rigging the EIR™ system

was used rather than the touring AIR™

rigging, making each enclosure 10lbs lighter

and more economical.

T he Concert Hall design was

originally planned to be used

only for speech and AV, but so far it has

been used for about 50% of the actual

shows performed in the venue. Each cluster

consists of 6 Metrix-i and 2 Metrix W-i hangs

with 2 Subs ground stacked below the arrays.

R epublic, a busy Vancouver club

on Granville has revamped their

entire sound system with Adamson Speakers.

Republic is open seven days a week; during

the day Republic is a busy pub and sports

bar, and at night it features live DJs and

entertainment transforming itself into a

dance club.

The upstairs main dance area

features 4 Adamson M15 Multi-purpose

enclosures arrayed as four single horizontal

boxes with the Mass™ System and a single

T-21 Sub placed in front of the DJ booth.

In the downstairs area, four

Adamson CB1 cabinets are run in stereo, with

a summed single B118 subwoofer. During the

day when the venue is a pub and restaurant

format, the CB1s offer a high fidelity crystal

clear sound for the soft rock and jazz music

played as background music.

In the evening, when the Republic

transforms into a club, the CB1s have no

problem keeping up with the DJ and live

format. There are two CB1s installed on each

side of the bar, and one pointing at people

as they walk up the stairwell, for a total of

seven CB1s in the downstairs area. Three

CB1s covering the upstairs bar and games

area, and another two cover the patio area.
