General

This installation manual provides instructions and practices for the successful deployment of the TransTel Nurse Call Solution.

The TransTel Nurse Call Solution is comprised of the following primary equipment.

• A TDS or G1E Plus M Telephone System equipped with the required amount of digital station ports and other circuits based on the customer requirement and configuration.

• Nurse Call Device (NCD & NCD2) and Nurse Call Panels (NCP)

• The main interface from the host telephone system (TDS or G1E Plus) to the patient room is a Digital Station Interface Card. G2-STU2 for the TDS and G1E-STU for the G1E Plus.

• Each Digital Station Card provides 8 circuits / interfaces to a patient room. The digital station interface connects via category 5 minimum twisted single pair wiring to the Nurse Call Device. Nurse Call Panels are then connected to the Nurse Call Device via RS-485, 4 conductor wiring. The Nurse Call Device also houses a dry contact closure that can be used to turn on a single color corridor light.

The following is a block diagram showing a typical installation of a private patient room with a single Nurse Call Device and an Emergency Bathroom Pull Cord along with a Corridor Light.

The NCD2 (Nurse Call Device) is the gateway between the NCS (Nurse Call System/ PBX) and each patient room. It has an intercom call facility (speaker and microphone) with full duplex handsfree conversation capability. The NCD also incorporates a data transceiver for all NCPs (Nurse Call Panel). On the input side is a digital station port from the telephone system and for the output you may install Nurse Call Panels (NCP’s) and corridor lamps.

The wiring from NCS (Digital station port) to NCD2 is a 2-wire non-polarized twisted pair cable. From the NCD2 to NCP is 4-wire RS485 interface. You can use standard Cat. 5 cable with an RJ45 plug to cascade the NCD2 to a NCP and then another NCP; but please note that you MUST use a 4-wire cable, NOT an 8-wire cable.

Installation Notes for the Nurse Call Device (NCD2) to the Nurse Call Panel (NCP)

1. You need a 4-wire telephone cable with an RJ-45 Plug. Only use pin1, pin2, pin3, pin6. All other pins should be empty. Please note that the above cable is included with the NCD2.

2. It is daisy-chained architecture connection (Concatenate one by one).

3. In most cases including private and semi private rooms: DK-NCD2 with operate normally without an external power supply at 12Vdc:

• DK-NCD2 can connect up to 6 NCP units without a power supply.

• DK-NCD2 to NCP: The maximum distance is 20 meters / 65.6 feet.

4. Special case with long distances or many semi private rooms sharing the same Nurse Call Device: DK-NCD2 has an external power supply 12Vdc.

• DK-NCD2 can connect up to 31 NCP units.

• Each DK-NCD2 can support up to 6 beds. Refer to Application Drawing

• DK-NCD2 to NCP: The maximum distance is 200 meters / 656 feet.

5. The last NCP needs to set the terminating impedance by setting its SW4 "1" and "2" to ON.

6. The position of SW4 "3", "4", "5" is used to set the bed number.

Special Note for Water Resistant Bathroom Emergency Panel – Please note that all Panels have 2 RJ-45 connectors, one for an input and another for an output. There is an exception to this when it comes to the NCP-BE Nurse Call Panel. Because of moisture and condensation this specific bathroom panel does NOT have RJ-45 connectors. The connections are hard wired and waterproofed for better reliability. Please see the diagram below for wiring details.

Installation of LED Display Panel

• Above installation block diagram is for the RS485 port of LED display panel.

• The PBX must be our TDS or G1E+M system.

• If more than one LED display panel is installed, it should be daisy-chained architecture connection (Concatenate one by one).

• PBX uses the broadcast protocol on RS485 to let all LED display panels to show the same message.

• Please note that the 9-pin D connector from PBX’s RS232 port to RS232-RS485 converter must be DCE type.

Programming Information

This section will describe programming parameters required to enable basic Nurse Call Operation.

Minimum software levels – MPUN – 11bBd and IPU I80-1c0bd

1. Establish a Hunt Group for the Nurse Stations

• Open your Web browser and enter System Programming.

• Select System followed by 67-69 Hunt Group Assignment.

• Create a Pilot Hunt Group Number for both Day & Night modes of operation

• Add the nurse call station numbers you want to ring when a patient requests assistance.

Helpful Hint: Unlike many Nurse Call Systems you have quite a bit of flexibility in how calls get routed to the Nurses on duty. You can have different handling for both Day and Night shifts. You can add stations such as Cordless Phones if the primary Nurse Station does not answer. You can also use IP Station interfaces and connect them to Wifi networks and use soft clients in smart phones. You can also link multiple hunt groups together for additional routing options. It is absolutely possible to have a different Nurse Call Station for each wing of a Nursing home.

Page 16: Installation, Programming & User Manual

16

2. Route the Nurse Call Device (NCD2) to the associated Hunt Group

• While in system programming Select ACP – 03 ACP/LMS Ring Assignment

• Each Nurse Call Device will be signified by ACP No.

• Enter the pilot hunt group number that you want each Nurse Call Device or patient room to go to during the Day & Night modes of operation.

3. Corridor Light (Door Light) – A room with two NCD2 and one Corridor Light

• If a patient room installs two NCD2, there is no need to install two corridor lights. Below is an example #411 (ACP NO = NCD2 NO) actually connects with a corridor light, in Mode: 03-412-03, entering 411, which means 412 corridor light follows 411.

• A station or a hunting group can be assigned to ring for NCD2 / Bath Room. (11bBq) (The database is not compatible for before version)

• A station or a hunting group can be assigned to ring for the NCD2 in Lunch.

• A station or a hunting group can be assigned to ring for NCD2 / Emergency. (11bBr)

4. Corridor Light – Light and Flash Control

• In System parameters, select 05: System Parameter – Group 07 – 06: NCD Relay Number

• 0 = Using one relay on the NCD2 (1 color) via CN3 on the NCD2

• 1= Using one relay on the NCD2 and disable the Relay Flash control (1 color)

• This setting is the same with parameter 0. The only difference is when Emergency Call (NCP-BE) is pressed and the Door light LED will flash. The problem is when flashing, the relay also makes a noise during communication, so the user can set 1 to disable it.

Page 17: Installation, Programming & User Manual

17

• 3 = 3 relays and 3 color options

5. (Optional) Program FN: 129 NCD Cancel in Mode 07/08

This feature allows the Nurse Station to manually cancel a patient initiated call if it is determined a visit to the room is not necessary based on the telephone conversation.

Note: Nurse Station must press feature number FN: 129 during conversation in order to cancel request.

Program a Nurse Call Cancel button for use on Nurse Station telephone sets.

• In System Programming Extension > Group 07: Dk Phone Dss Key Assignment, select the group that applies to the station(s) that are Nurse stations.

• Select a key location that is available and set the Type to Func: and Enter “129” (NCD Cancel).

For example:

Feature Number FN:129 is set on DSS key 4.

Patient Room 108 calls Nurse Station 101.

101 answers and finishes conversation; nurse doesn't need to go to the patient room to press cancel button.

Nurse will press FN:129 and the Nurse Call request will be canceled

Please note that this function must be activated when pressing DSS key 4 (FN: 129)during conversation, and then the corridor light and NCD2 or NCP LED will turn off. It only cancels Patient Room 108 in the above example.

Note: Calls (Alarms) can be only cancelled at the calling station or by pressing FN:129 during conversationbetween nurse and patient station.

6. NCD2 Volume Adjustment

Page 18: Installation, Programming & User Manual

18

Permanently Adjust Volume Levels on NCD2 in the patient room from the Nurse Call station.

Make connection from Nurse Call Station to patient nurse call device. During conversation the Nurse Call station can adjust both the microphone and speaker of the patient nurse call device as follows;

There are 8 level settings to choose from. The default is 4 for both MIC and SPK.

• Nurse station presses [PRG]. LCD will display “Program.”

• Nurse station presses Volume Up [↑]or Volume Down [↓]. LCD will display “Set LMS Volume” on the top half LCD will display “1:Speak 2:MIC” on the bottom half.

• Press 1 to adjust the speaker volume. LCD will display “Speaker Level” on the top half. LCD will display “VOLUME ****” on the bottom half. OR

• Press 2 to adjust the microphone volume. LCD will display “MIC Level” on the top half. LCD will display “VOLUME ****” on the bottom half.

• You may adjust the level by pressing the Volume Up [↑]or Volume Down [↓] buttons.

• When finished, simply hang up at the Nurse station.

7. NCD2 UnPlug Alarm Mode :50-NCD-01 = 1 ................................................... NCD Offline notice.

When the NCD cable is disconnected, the system will immediately ring the extensions set in Mode: 03 (ACP/LMS Ring Assignment).

8. Programming an External Display

8.1 This feature allows the main processor (MPUN) to directly control the LED panel through the RS232 (shall connect a RS232 to RS485 converter by using a DCE connecter). When the NCD/NCD2 activates an alarm, the System can send the message protocol via RS485 to signal all LED display panels to show the same message.

8.2 The LED panel programming is as follows:

Page 19: Installation, Programming & User Manual

19

8.3 Program Item:

a. Idle Display Text – For setting the display text on the LED panel when there’s no alarm event b. Panel ID – For setting the ID of the LED Panel (from ‘0000’ to ‘9999’, ‘ZZZZ’ for announcement) c. Panel Type – For selecting the LED panel type, 0= Chinese Panel, 128= English Panel, and the Chinese Panel

must set the Number of words for the panel.

d. Output Port – For setting the control LED port through which RS232 port, 15= disable the LED panel control output.

Appendixes

Accessories of NLD2 and Door Light

Note for One-Lamp Door Light

• The GND-System is the ground of the NCD2. The GND-Light is the ground of one-lamp door light. They can’t be tied together.

• In an installation environment, the dealer may just use one power (+V, GND-Light) for many patient rooms’ Door Light. So, the +V and GND-Light are all paralleled together. Our NCD2’s dry contact relay just pulls one end of lamp to ground (GND-light).

• You may use an external common power supply and ground to provide power to lights and nurse call devices.

Note for Three-Lamp Door Light

The DK-NLD2 has an external 12Vdc power (for relays and three LED lamps) and its three relays; the door light has 3 LEDs and all the wiring is pre-defined. Please follow the drawing below to install.
