Safety instructions for installation

Fit the wall units and rangehood before fitting the cooktop to avoid damagingthe cooktop.

The veneer or laminate coatings of worktops (or adjacent kitchenunits) must be treated with 100 °C heat-resistant adhesive which willnot dissolve or distort. Any splashbacks must be of heat-resistantmaterial as well.

The cooktop must not be installed over a fridge, fridge-freezer,freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, washer-dryer or tumble dryer.

A gas cooktop must not be installed directly next to a deep fatfryer as the gas flames could ignite the fat in the fryer. It is essentialto maintain a distance of at least 300 mm between these twoappliances.

When installing the cooktop, make sure that the gas hose andelectrical connection cable cannot come into contact with hotappliance parts.

The electrical cable and any flexible gas connection pipes must beinstalled in such a way so that they do not come into contact withany moving kitchen parts (e.g. a drawer), and cannot becometrapped.

Observe carefully the safety clearances listed on the followingpages.All dimensions in this instruction booklet are given in mm.

Safety distance above thecooktop

A minimum safety distance must bemaintained between the cooktop andthe rangehood above it. See therangehood manufacturer's operatingand installation instructions for details.

If the manufacturer's instructions arenot available for the rangehood, aminimum safety distance as per AS/NZS 5601.1 must be maintained.

For any flammable objects, e.g. utensilrails, wall units etc., a minimum safetydistance of 600 mm must bemaintained between these objects andthe highest part of the cooktop below.

When two or more appliances whichhave different safety distances areinstalled together below arangehood, you should observe thegreatest safety distance.

Safety distances to the sidesand back of the applianceIdeally the appliance should be installedwith plenty of space on either side.There may be a wall at the rear and atall unit or wall on one side (right or left).On the other side, however, no tall unitor wall should stand higher than theappliance. Before installing theappliance, check that the locationprovides the required clearances fromcombustible material and, if necessary,provide protection to adjacent surfacesas required by regulations.

A gas appliance shall be installed suchthat the surface temperature of anynearby combustible surface* will notexceed 65 °C above ambient.

The minimum clearance from acombustible surface shall be a 200 mmhorizontal distance from the peripheryof any gas burner (AS/NZS 5601.1).

If that horizontal clearance is less than200 mm, that vertical surface must beprotected by a non-combustiblematerial for 150 mm above the cooktopsurface across the entire length (depth,width).

The shown area indicates the protectedsurface, which may be ceramic tiles orother approved material.

*Combustible surface:A material which will ignite and burn,and includes material which has beenflameproofed.

Clearance underneath theapplianceA minimum safety clearance of 30 mmmust be provided underneath theappliance.

Please note that clearance must also beprovided for the installation of theflexible gas connection hose and mainselectrical cable if the appliance is to beinstalled above a closed surface (e.g.an oven).

Seal between the cooktop andthe worktop

Do not use sealant between thecooktop and the worktop. This couldresult in damage to the cooktop orthe worktop if the cooktop everneeds to be removed for servicing.The sealing strip under the edge ofthe top part of the applianceprovides a sufficient seal for theworktop.

Tiled worktop

Grout lines  and the hatched areaunderneath the cooktop frame must besmooth and even. If they are not, thecooktop will not sit flush with theworktop and the sealing stripunderneath the cooktop will not providea good seal between the cooktop andthe worktop.

Preparing the worktop Make the worktop cut-out as shown

in the building-in diagram. Observethe safety distances (see "Safetydistances").

Seal the cut surfaces on woodenworktops with a suitable sealant toavoid swelling caused by moisture.The sealant must be heat-resistant.

Make sure the sealant does notcome into contact with the topsurface of the worktop.

The seal underneath the cooktop willhold it securely in the cut-out. Any gapbetween the frame and worktop willreduce with time.

Installing the cooktop Feed the mains connection cable

down through the cut-out.

Place the cooktop unfastened in thecut-out. When doing this, make surethat the seal under the cooktop sitsflush with the worktop on all sides.This is important to ensure aneffective seal all round.

Do not use any additional sealant(e.g. silicone).

If the seal does not meet the worktopcorrectly on the corners, the cornerradii (≤ R4) can be carefully scribed tosuit.

Connect the cooktop to the mainselectricity supply.

Connect the cooktop to the gassupply (see "Gas connection").

Securing the cooktop

Secure the cooktop using thebrackets  supplied.

Checking operation After installing the cooktop, ignite all

burners to check that they areoperating correctly:

– The flame must not go out on thelowest setting, or when the control isturned quickly from the highest to thelowest setting.

– On the highest setting, the flamemust have a distinctive and visiblecore.

All electrical work must be carried outby a suitably qualified and competentperson in strict accordance with currentlocal and national safety regulations.Connection must be made via aswitched socket. This will make it easierfor service technicians should theappliance need to be repaired. Theelectrical socket must be easilyaccessible after installation.

Danger of injury!Miele cannot be held liable forunauthorised installation,maintenance and repair work as thiscan be dangerous to users. Miele cannot be held liable fordamage or injury caused by incorrectinstallation, maintenance or repairwork, or by an inadequate or faultyearthing system (e.g. electric shock).If the plug has been removed or theconnection cable is not supplied witha plug, the cooktop must beconnected to the mains supply by asuitably qualified electrician.If the appliance is to be hard-wired,an additional means ofdisconnection must be provided forall poles in accordance with thewiring rules. When switched off,there must be an all-pole contactgap of at least 3 mm in the switch(including switch, fuses and relays).Connection data is shown on thedata plate. It must match the mainselectrical supply.After installation, ensure that allelectrical components are shieldedand cannot be accessed by users.

ConnectionAC 230 V, 50 Hz

The voltage and rated load are given onthe data plate. Please ensure thesematch the household mains supply.

Residual current deviceFor extra safety, it is advisable toprotect the appliance with a suitableresidual current device (RCD) with a triprange of 30 mA.

Replacing the mainsconnection cable

Danger of electrical shock!The mains connection cable must bereplaced by a suitably qualified andcompetent person in accordancewith current local and national safetyregulations.

If the mains cable needs to be replaced,it must be replaced with a specialconnection cable, type H 05 VV-F (PVCinsulated), available from Miele, by aMiele approved service technician orsuitably qualified electrician in order toavoid a hazard.

The connection data is given on thedata plate.

Connection to the gas supply, orconversion from one type of gas toanother should only be undertakenby an approved gas fitter, who isresponsible for correct functioning ofthe appliance when installed. Everyappliance should have its ownisolating valve.

The gas connection must beinstalled so that connection can bemade either from inside or outsidethe kitchen unit, and the isolatingvalve must be easily accessible andvisible (by opening one of the kitchenunit doors, if necessary).

Check with your local gas supplierabout the type of gas and its calorificvalue, and compare this informationwith the type of gas quoted on theappliance data plate.

This appliance is not connected toan exhaust flue. Please ensure it hasadequate ventilation after installation.When installing and connecting theappliance observe the relevantregulations, especially appropriateventilation.

The gas connection must be inaccordance with national and localregulations.

Special provisions of the local gassupplier, as well as the relevantbuilding regulations, must also beobserved.

The gas connections the gas hoseand the mains connection cable canget damaged when they becomehot.Ensure that the gas hose andelectrical cable are installed in such away that they do not touch any partsof the appliance which become hotand that the gas hose and gasconnection do not come into contactwith hot gas exhaust.

Flexible hoses can be damagedwhen installed incorrectly.Ensure the hose assembly is notexposed to high temperaturesexceeding the maximumrecommended by the hosemanufacturer, subjected to strain,kinking, permanent deformation ordamage by vermin.

Unsuitable sealants do not guaranteethe required impermeability of theconnection.Use only suitable sealants.

The gas pressure must be set by anapproved gas fitter and a fulloperational test and a test forpossible leakages must be carriedout by the gas fitter after installation.

Depending on country of destinationjets are supplied for conversion to adifferent type of gas. If the appropriatejets have not been supplied with theappliance you will need to contactMiele. Conversion to another type ofgas is described under the relevantSection.

Connection to the applianceThe gas connection has a ¹/₂" conicalthread. There are two possibilties forconnection:

– fixed connection

– flexible hose class B or D whichcomplies with AS/NZS 1869 andmust be certified. The minimuminner Ø must be 10 mm and themaximum length 1.2 m.

Setting the gas pressure

The gas pressure must be set by theapproved gas fitter as shown on thedata plate:Natural gas 1.0 kPaULPG (Propane/Butane) 2.75 kPa

The gas pressure must be set with thelargest burner operating at maximumsetting.

Reassemble one of the large burners,turn on the gas and manually light theburners.

Disconnect gauge and screw in thetest point screw.

Conversion from one type of gasto another should only beundertaken by an approved andregistered gas fitter in strictaccordance with current local andnational safety and buildingregulations.Disconnect the cooktop from theelectricity supply and turn off the gassupply.

Changing the jets Disconnect the cooktop from the

electricity supply and turn off the gassupply.

When converting to another type ofgas, both the main and small jetsneed to be changed.

Remove the pan support, burnercap  and burner head .

Using an M7 socket spanner,unscrew the main jet .

Fit the correct jets securely (see jettable).

Secure the jets against inadvertentloosening with sealing wax.

Remove the burner cap , burnerring  and burner head .

Undo the screws  and remove thecover plate.

Using a socket spanner or flatspanner (M7), unscrew the mainjets  (larger diameter) and (smaller diameter).

Fit the correct jets securely (see jettable).

Secure the jets against inadvertentloosening with sealing wax.

Changing the small jets

To change the jets, the burner fixingscrews must first be loosened and theupper section of the applianceremoved.

Pull the control knobs off.

Remove the burner components.

Lift the top of the appliance off.

To lift out the stainless steel uppersection, lift it at the rear, slideforwards and take it out.

To remove the ceramic uppersection, insert the supplied tool at thecorner between the appliance frameand the worktop, lift it up and take itout.

Remove the ignition switch .

Using a small screwdriver, unscrewthe small jet  in the gas fitting.

Pull out the jet with a pair of pliers.

Fit the correct jets securely (see jettable).

Secure the jets against inadvertentloosening with sealing wax.

Checking operation Check all gas fittings for leaks.

Reassemble the cooktop.

Ignite all burners to check that theyare operating correctly.

– The flame must not go out on thelowest setting, or when the control isturned quickly from the highest to thelowest setting.

– On the highest setting, the flamemust have a distinctive and visiblecore.

Adhere the label supplied with thejets over the old label stating the typeof gas being used.
